I have a file on the family at www.dghall.ca that you might find interesting. If you would share information on the Blackwood clan in BC (my mother Eleanor Blackwood [Hall] lives in White Rock) I would love to hear from you.
Cheers

Hello:

I just came across your inquiry of the Blackwoods from Maine. Hope you still are with Ancestry.

We may be related !!! To date I don't have any Sanuel but have Henry, and lots of James. They are decended from James Blackwood born abt 1744 Ireland. Surved under John Burgoyne and stayed in Maine to marry and raise his family. I believe one of them went to NY for a spell. They settled mostly in Pembroke, Robinston, Calis area. All Washington County.

Janet

My great grandmother was Harriett Blackwood Houston, daughter of James Blackwood. James and Mary Brooks Blackwood listed on Walker Co GA census of 1850 b4 moving to Arkansas.

Harriett's sister, Mary Ann, married Benton Davis. I believe Davis family lived in Alabama before moving to Ark.

My James born ca. 1805 may be son of Joseph Blackwood of South Carolina. Did he have brother or father Isaac Blackwood?

I am Beverly Hart in Oklahoma. Welcome your observations!

Actually I have an official ordered straight from the state copy of that death certificate and I have seen the copy of the WWI Draft Card. At first, I thought it was him, then I found I reason I thought it wasn't him, and now I'm waffling tremendously (alhtough my eldest Haynes/Blackwood aunt has said she didn't think he moved to Marshall county, BUT...) GAH, genealogy is such a wonderful and wonderfuly frustrating thing. :)

Thanks so much for the replies though. I greatly appreciated it. :) If I can ever confirm anything, you will see a post with a big subject something akin to FOUND HIM FOUND HIM, CELEBRATE WITH ME!!!!! LOL. Okay, enough of that.

A quick follow-up for anyone who may be interested-or have additional info-on this Blackwood family.

I did some more research and found that the children I had assumed died (1880 versus 1900 censuses) were in fact in marriage and other records post-1880 and 1900. That 1900 census record had said that Margaret [Proctor] Blackwood had borne 10 children, 5 of which were living [in 1900]. It was almost as if...and here is another example of needing to be wary of census records...the answer was given as to say she had 10 children, and 5 were living with her still....

John W. Blackwood married Margaret Proctor

I've seen a few references to a John W. Blackwood marrying a Margaret E. Proctor in Jackson County, Alabama.

In the 1870 census, they are in Jackson County, AL, with son Arthur. John is listed as having been born in Mississippi. They show up in 1880 in Johnson County, Texas, with son Arthur and more children. In 1900 they are in Taylor County, Texas, with five more children. Apparently, the five mentioned in the 1880 census had all died...in the 1900 census, Margaret is listed as having borne ten children, with five still living at the census date. John is buried in Taylor County, and his descendants show up all the way to the 1930 census there.

Anyone have any info on this family in addition to what I mentioned above? Looking at the GenWeb site for this county, J.W. Blackwood is listed as having a biography in "A Baker's Dozen.." which is a local history book....but I have not seen this publication. I am trying to link this John Blackwood as possibly being the John Blackwood who was a son of Edward Blackwood, who came to Winston County, MS in the 1840s.

Thank you for the offer. I actually have Neil's death record and a photo of the gravesite in Barkerville, although I understand that a new marker has been placed in recent years. He married his wife Barbara Blackwood abt 1852 in either Martintown Ontario or Franklin Centre Quebec, still working on pinning that down. Neil's parents are John and Grace Campbell both born in Scotland. They had one other child that we know of a daughter, Jannet.

Another Barkerville connection for this family is the Houser house. William Blackwood married Elizabeth Katherine Houser in 1895 in Barkerville. William was Neil and Barbara's nephew. Elizabeth died in Barkerville in 1903 and William left the area.

Several articles about the area were written by Neil and Barbara's son Robert N. Campbell.

If you wish further information on this family please contact me directly.
