There is an extensive number of Blades in Canada. We seem to have arrived from a number of British immigrants in the 1800s. My great grandfather, Christopher Blades, moved from Lincolnshire, England in the 1800s to homestead in the newly formed country of Canada, specifically near Camrose, Alberta. There is still a road there called "Blades Row." The homestead is also still in the family. According to family lore, the Blades were, in fact, nobility in England at one time. I've traced the family to the name "Bloden" which was Norse! Apparently, during the Norse raids a number came to settle in the land they had conquered, and eventually became wealthy landowners, where their name evolved to Blades. I have a copy of the original family crest, which is still registered in the house of peers in England, perhaps supporting the belief of the noble orgins of this intriguing family.
