James Blades married Elizabeth Dunhill 18 Feb 1854 and had about 12 Children. James' parents were John Blades (son of James Blades and Ellen Jackson) and Mary Hardwick (daughter of ? Hardwick and Elizabeth) m.17 Jan 1831. Elizabeth's parents were Leonard Dunhill (son of Leonard Dunhill and Caroline Hault) and Jane Leaper m. 13 Mar 1826. All this took place in the York/Scarborough area of England. Many of James Blades children came to America in the 1885-1895 time frame and first settled in and around Chicago, then moved to Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin, S. Dakota and Canada. Specifically Mary Elizabeth Blades & Thomas Dunkerly, Jane Blades and Robert Elliott (settled in Iowa), John Jackson Blades and Elizabeth Tindall (Chicago area), James Blades and Sarah Bielby (married in Gary, S. Dakota, settled in Millet, Alberta, Canada) are known to have made the trip to America/Canada. I am seeking more information on the history of this Blades/Dunhill Family. Specifically, my grandmother, Annie Elizabeth Blades was born 1 Jul 1874 in Yorkshire (parents not known), came to America with Mary Blades and Thomas Dunkerly, and married Emil Emmert in Chicago in 1893. She had a cousin John Wesley Tindall Blades son of John Jackson Blades and Elizabeth Tindall.
If this family sounds familiar, please contact me.

Hello,
Are you related to a Vera or Vira Blades (maiden name)
Her married name would have been Goodman, married a John or Sylvester Goodman. I believed they lived in Canada possibly Nova Scotia and then moved to Massachusetts.

I believe they are my grandmother's parents and these are the only names I have...any information you may have would be appreciated.

Dear Jim,
Were you ever able to obtain a copy of a marriage license or marriage application for Annie and Emil? I would be interestd in finding out who the witnesses were, what information Annie and Emil had to give for their marriage. I found out that Annie's grandmother, Elizabeth Dunhill Blades did not die in Chicago, but in Iowa. She was visiting a grandson there and passed away. Her body was taken to Gary, S. Dakota for burial. Her daughter Annie Lightfoot lived there, and her husband James died there in 1885. If I find out more, I will let you know. Mary

I have not gotten the certificate yet. It is on my list of things to do. I will keep you in the loop when I do.
I did have James Blades death in 1885 in Gary, Deuel Co., SD, but I did not know that Elizabeth died in Iowa. I have her death in 1910.
Jane Blades Elliot, Her daughter, settled in Nasua, Chicksaw, Iowa and died there 5 Mar 1919. Some of their children settled in Chicago and a few others in various places in Iowa (Waterloo, Charles City). However, I have not identified the place of death of most of their 16 children. The Elliott brance is the only branch of the family I have identified in Iowa.
