My 3great grandfather was Charles Blain (spelling from tombstone in Omega, OH), he died in 1899. I think his father was Charles Blaine and his mother was Sallie Gaines. I have found the Gaines line, but I haven't found anything on the Blaine line. I haven't even got real proof that these are his parents. He had a daughter, Mildred Francis, who married Joshua Ellis Tracy. I am looking for anything on this line.

Thanks,
Susan

Bessie Slaine

I just received this picture from a cousin. I'm guessing that the information on the back should be deciphered to mean: The picture is of Cousin Bessie Slaine who is the daughter of "Aunt Sally," and Aunt Sally is the sister of Grandfather Blaine (who would be Charles Blaine who married Sarah Jane Hess). Bessie died of typhoid fever when I (Ethel Tracy Keefer) was 6 years old - 48 years ago. Mother (Ethel Tracy Keefer). The date would make Bessie death in 1896, but Ethel was 6 years old in 1893.

The only additional information I have that may help is that Charles (b. 1933 d. 1899) is the son of Charles and Sallie (or Sarah) Gaines Blain(e) and that Charles also has a brother named John (b. 1825 d. unknown) who married a Hannah Slain. The brothers lived in Ross and Pike Counties in Ohio.

If anyone has any information on any of the names in the picture, I'd appreciate any help that I can get!

Susan

I'm hitting nothing but brick walls looking for information on my great-great grandmother Goldie Blaine. She was married to William N Thrasher, and the info given to me by my mother says she was born in 1886, and died in 1955. (Unfortunately, some of her info has turned out to be incorrect)

All of my grandmother(Bessie) and her brothers and sisters were all born in Paulding Co., Ohio, as was my great-great grandfather William Thrasher, so I'm hoping Goldie was born possibly in the same area? Or possibly Putnam County/Williams/Defiance Co.? Honestly don't know, just guessing.

If anyone has any info to pass along and share, I would really appreciate it.

I am looking for information on Nancy Blaine, born in 1778 and married John Barr in Pennsylvania. They both died in Wooster, Ohio. Nancy died in 1847 and John died in 1836. A late family member remembers a story about Nancy being related to James G. Blaine the Statesman. Also a mention of the name Metzger. I have been trying to make a conection somewhere. I hope someone out there can be of help, I would apprciate it. I have found a Anna Metzer married to thomas Blaine. I have found several Nancy mentioned here and there with unknown information. One of these could be my Nancy but not for sure. I hope this info could also be of help to someone also.
James G. Blaine

In my efforts to enlarge my library of Pennsylvania genealogical materials I have come into the possession of a volume entitled "Proceedings of the Senate and House of Representatives of Pennsylvania on the Adoption of the Memorial Resolutions Relating to the Late Hon. James G. Blaine, of Maine" published by the Pennsylvania State Printer in 1893.

If this book is of value to any Blaine researchers I would be happy to scan it to CD (as a PDF file) and mail it to you. I am not looking to profit on this but I would have to charge to cover the expense to create the CD, the trip to the post office, and the postage.

If this is of interest to anyone, please let me know.

Stephanie

Looking for more info on Verne Wilson/William Blaine. He married Jessie Dowlin in 1912. She died in 1918, so they won't be in a census together except for the 1915 Kansas state census, which I have not seen. They had two children that lived with grandparents after the death of their mother. What happened to Verve? His parents 'may' have been David and Pamelia Blaine, as found in the 1900 census. I also cann't find Verne after 1918. He 'may' be remarried to a Nancy and living in Emporia, Lyon Co., KS in the 1930 census. I just don't know if the earlier and the later Vernes are the same as the one who married Jessie.

William Blain(e) WV

I am seeking any sources or documents regarding William Blain, born 1802, being born after his father died (reportedly by drowning in the river). He later lived primarily in Mason Co. WV (VA). According to "History of Mason County, West Virginia 1987" states he lived with his mother until bound out to work when but a small boy. Later coming to live with William Alexander at Letart Falls, Ohio. He followed boating for some time. This the only resource I have been able to locate and hope someone else has found something; including his siblings. P.S. The "E" on Blain is optional even in my own family.
Any help appreciated
Jerry Blaine
Clinton, IA
Attention Blaine Researchers

I want to offer some assistance to those of you out there researching the BLAINE surname. I recently discovered that some of my oldest BLAIN ancestors spelled their last name BLANE on some court documents (land records, probate records, etc) and in an occassional census record. It is possible that this was an error or the part of the record taker - or it could be that the BLAIN/BLAINE surname began as BLANE. I have even found one or two census records where the younger individuals listed in a family spell their last name BLAIN, while the older individuals spell it BLANE.
The BLANE surname can be found throughout the country in the late 1700s and 1800s - including (but not limited to) KY, NC, TN, NY, PA, IL, IN, OH, MI,NJ, and etc.
It has also been noted that the BLAINE surname was spelled without an "e" on the end (BLAIN) within family lines. My family generally spelled it without the "e".

I hope this helps someone!
Marlene Jones

"Lanksey BLAIN", d. Arkansas 1932

This name appears on the 1930 Arkansas census from the records of the State Hospital for Nervous Disorders in Little Rock, and on his death certificate from 1932 (died at the institution). DC states from MS, parents John BLAIN and Caroline WOODS. I believe this to be an error in the hospital records and that it should be "Yancy BLAIN", whose nickname was "Yank" , who I have been told had a speech impediment and died at the hospital in 1932. However, I would like to be certain of my assumption. Am inquiring if anyone has any other record or knowledge of a "Lanksey" BLAIN(E) that disproves my assumption. Thank you.

"The Heritage of Macon Cnty, NC" says Wilson was the 3rd son of Silas Blaine Agnes Harris. He Francis married on 01 Nov 1851. They had 3 daughters.. Lydia, Margaret Ella. Wilson was killed in the Civil War. My grandmother Margaret Jane Blaine was born in Macon Cnty NC, April 1852, m. James Washington Ammons also born in NC. They had 7 children moved the whole family to Snohomish Cnty, WA circa 1900. Any help with this line or related lines would be sincerely appreciated. I'm stuck!

Sisters- Isabella, Alice, Francis Blaine from Adara, Ireland

Looking for all information on these sisters from Adara, Ireland. Their parents were Moses Blaine and Jane McKee, both born around 1730. The family was Methodist. Isabella married George Elliott in 1770 in Donegal Co.,Ireland. They then immigrated to the OH in 1805. Alice, born 1760, married George Finley, born 1755. They were the first family to immigrate to OH in 1785. Francis "Fannie" married George's brother. When he passed away. Fannie and some of the children sailed to Baltimore and walked to OH to be close with her sisters. I would like any information on these sisters or their parents. I am tracing the Elliott and Finley families and I feel these sisters are the key for me to trace back further in Ireland.
