Thomas Blakeley - Paterson, NJ ~1829

Does anyone have any information on the parents of Thomas Blakeley (Blakely?) born in Paterson, NJ ~1829? According to my mom, she thinks he was an engineer. However, in the context of the 1800s I don't know if that means he built things or ran a locomotive. He was married to a women named Catherine from Ireland.

I am not sure that Thomas was born in NJ, but the census records have that recorded. My mom thought he was born in Ireland, but I can't find any records to confirm that.

Re: BLAKELEY Earl G 1888-1955

This is a "real long shot" but I started my Family Tree on March 17, 2011, looking for my Irish grandmother, Elsie May
Blakeley. I have found everyone else clear back to the 1500's almost and I cannot get past my grandmother's birthday of
May 12, 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had a brother named Charley (Charles) and a brother named Earl. She also had a sister, maybe Flora, I am not sure of her name. Charley moved up around Olympia, Washington; my grandmother as a young girl moved to Wichita, Kansas, and it seemed that the boys would have gone with them, but I don't find anyone. The 1890 or at least the 1900 should show the Blakeley family unless they traveled on. My grandmother remained there married to Clarence Everett Merritt and I think that she went to school in Wichita. Like I said...just a long shot...Charley never married and as far as I know Earl did not go to Washington with him. Thanks! MaryMerritt-Lindsay

Joe, do you have more information on the names of the Blakley family before William and your father? Those of us who descend from William Riley Blakley have been trying to find the documents to attach him to whoever his parents were. Now this William Riley Blakley was born in Missouri or Arkansas, married Rachel Evans (who was 1/8 Cherokee) in Arkansas, and moved near the town of Shawnee, Oklahoma. He died in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. William had two brothers, Robert and Charley (possibly more if we could attach him to his parents) and at least one sister, Elizabeth (and possibly Harriet Blakley Wilson).

Jane Blakeley - daughter of David and Bridget

My 2g-grandmother was Jane Blakely (10 Jul 1835, Antrim, Ireland – 14 Jun 1911, Winnipeg, Manitoba). I am hoping that someone out there and might be able to help me fill in some blanks. Of course, I am happy to share what documentation I have on Jane and her family.

According to family lore, the Jane and her family of origin were from Antrim, Ireland and arrived in Canada in about 1848. Jane’s marriage registration lists her parents as David and Bridget Blakeley. My grandfather was under the impression that Bridget’s maiden name might have been Sharpe. He also told me that Jane was VERY Protestant in her politics.

Jane married Thomas Seaborn (1837 – 1902) in Toronto in 1858. They were the parents of eight children all born in the Toronto area between 1860 and 1874. Jane and Thomas operated the Hogg’s Hollow Inn at what was then the first stage stop north of Toronto. The family moved to Winnipeg in about 1882 where they owned and operated a hack business. I have heard, but have not yet documented, that Jane and Thomas had a farm near Winnipeg for a short period of time but lost it as the result of a fire.

Jane died on 14 June 1911 at the home of her daughter, Amelia (Seaborn) Sennett at 174 Marion Avenue, Norwood. After the funeral at Amelia’s house, Jane was buried at Brookside Cemetery.

As a child I recall seeing several photos taken in Winnipeg of my grandfather and some of his Blakeley cousins. I do not recall the names of the cousins but believe that the pictures were taken in front of the Seaborn house on Redwood Avenue.

Does any of this ring a bell? Any information or leads you could share would be greatly appreciated.

I have just started researching the Blakeley side of my family. My great grandfather was Alfred Blakeley, a labourer in a Printworks, born in Pilkington in 1843. On the 1861 census he was living in Kirkhams with his parents, John & Nancy, brother Edward and sister Agnes Petty (a weaver) and her husband William Petty (a clogger). Alfred later married Hannah Mather and they had six children, one of whom was James, my grandfather. Please contact me if you receive this.

In the message I saw the name Roy Blakeley, the brother of Emma.
Is it possible that one of the blakeley's was in Holland during WWII. My family knew a blakeley who was a driver for medical supplies. He was in Nijmegen near the Nebo monastery in 1945. I like to hear or maybe you know another Blakeley who was there. Thank you
Hetty Huussen

Re: George Henry Blakeley Dewsbury to Pittsburgh 1911

My Blakeley great great great grand father came from Dewsbury, England in 1842. Abraham was born in 1769 and his sons (Abraham,1829, John 1842 and their wives and children came to Chester, pa. Their children (9 came and stayed in the area more settled in Media, OH. I have the names of most of these descendents down to my mother who was a Blakeley. It might be that George Henry Blakeley was descended from Abraham brother back in Dewsbury. Gearge is the name of one of John children. If I can give you more information, let me know.-/
Vernon Wickstrom

George Henry Blakeley Dewsbury to Pittsburgh 1911

G H Blakeley and wife Sally/Selina left Dewsbury Yorkshire and via The Celtic and Liverpool emigrated to America in Aug 1911. The ship's manifest states that they were going to live/visit friends in Pittsburgh named J W Latimer. George was a coal miner by trade. They left behind 3 children, the oldest being Ethel who was my grandmother. We don't know what became of Geroge Henry and Sally/Selina. Can anyone shed any light?
Thanks
Andrew
