Nehemiah Blakeman

Does anyone have any information on Nehemiah Blakeman (or Blackman)? What I know about him is this:

He was born in Connecticut. His son (he must have this son for any information to be accurate) was named Nathaniel (born 1797). Nathaniel's mother (and presumably Nehemiah's wife) was named Olive or in short form "Olly." Nehemiah died in Berkshire, Delaware County, Ohio.

This is all the information I have. I'll take any info I can get as an excellent gift!

I have Blakemans in my geneology that came from Staffordshire. Starting with Thomas W. b.1835, Married Sarah Ann Murtie from Ireland. He came over to the US in 1852, but going back to the next generation, there is a Thomas, b. 1801, whose childrens names were William, Thomas, Mary Jane, Eliza, Amelia Elizth, Emily, Alice, George, all born between 1852 and 1870 in Staffordshire, then another William, born 1774 who married an Elizabeth Tonks. Do any of these names ring a bell with anyone.

She died at the age of 93 Oct 3, 1980 in or near Toledo, Ohio Her children were Walter, Fay, Eunice, Mildred, Edith & Elmer She married Clinton Ralph McCartney 9/12/1955 and was widowed 12/9/1971.

I have an original large Cabinet Card photograph of “Helen Blakeman – age 2 yrs. and 4 months – born 25 Aug 1906”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Terre haute (Vigo Co.) IN.

I found Helen Blakeman in the 1910 census for Lockport (Will Co.) IL, daughter of Martha Blakeman, age 23, and they were living with Helen’s grandmother Johanna Krohn, age 63. In 1920 census for Detroit (Wayne Co.) MI, Helen was age 13, and her parents were Charles H. Blakeman (age 30) and Martha (age 31). I checked back to 1910 to find Charles, and found that he was working/rooming in Chattanooga Co., TN, shown as married, and working as a roofer of houses.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Helen Blakeman.

Hi Wendy, Ya, I guess that does make us cousins. Well there are five of us, fathered by Percys nephew. Sarah and Felix had four children, Percy, Gerald, Arthur and Winnifred, they came to Canada in Dec. 1923. They lived in Toronto, I think on Jarvis St. Incidently, my hubby of 30 years is from Belleville, born and raised.
So what other children did the Blakemans give away?
Winnifred had two children by that scoundrel Charles Drinkwater (I think he was a good looking scoundrel), my father Charles Raymond, born Sept 16, 1926 (now deceased in 2007)who was adopted at 4 1/2 years old! Talk about abandonment issues. Plus they had a daughter Evelyn Marie Blakeman, born Feb 16, 1928. She was adopted out as an infant, to people in Michigan. They (Winnifred and Charles) were very young, early twenties when it was discovered he was already married with children in England. So there ended any trace of Winnifred and Charley, but I'm sure they both went on the marry and have children with others, just don't know who.
So what do you know about the Blakemans. Your the first person to reply and it sounds like there were a lot of you.
Catherine

I encourage all Blakeman males to get DNA testing, which may help to sort out the many Moses', aarons, Adams and Johns in the Blakeman tree.

I'm looking for information on Amelia Marie Blakeman/Breckman and not sure at all of spelling. She married Herman Guenter(Guenther, Guenthner, Guentner) in 1877 in Germany. She died around 1893 in Texas. She would have arrived in Texas, most likely by the port of Galveston in 1885 with her husband Herman. I've no date of birth for her, but I estimate it to be 1845-1855

Re: Rev. Adam Blakeman or Blackman

Hello Julie,

My name is Orley Hatfield and my maternal genealogy line is the Blakeman's. I am quite impressed with this information concerning the Blakeman (Blackman) family. My Aunt Mary started looking for Blakeman ancestors in the early 1940’s (before computers!) and finally quit in the early 1980’s. At that time she had traced our Blakeman Heritage to Moses Blakeman (Blackman) and Elizabeth Nance. Moses was born about 1781 in Big Sandy, Virginia and Elizabeth was born about 1800 in North Carolina.

My Aunt Mary died several years ago and I later took up genealogy in the mid 1990’s. Since that time I have added many “cousins” and “probable” ancestors, but have not been able to find any of Moses family. I have my closest “probable” (possibly a brother) as:

Adam Blakeman born about 1785 in Nicholasville, Jessamine Co., Kentucky.

Adam married a Lucy Fishburn on 16 May 1811 in Jessamine Co., Kentucky. Many of my Blakeman ancestors married into the Fishburn family and that is the main reason I have listed Adam as a “probable”.

A very long explanation without a question.

You have a great deal of Blakeman (Blackman) information; do you have any information on my Moses or my “probable”, Adam? If so, I would really like to connect Moses and/or my Adam with a family!!

Thanks and regards

Orley Hatfield
