I am interested in the Nettles, Morris & Haley families in Tennessee. My g-g-grandmother was Fannie Nettles Haley from Haywood County Tennessee. Fannie Nettles married William Haley who was my g-grandparents. Fannie and William Haley were parents to my g-grandmother Darthulia Haley who married John White. They were parents to my grandmother Verneda White who married Wibur Morris - all in Haywood County Tennessee. Wilbur Morris' parents were Allen and Eva Morris also from Haywood County Tennessee. Are any of these names familiar to you or in your family tree?

Hi, Toni:

I think you and I might be related. My great-grandmother was Amanda (nee Nettles) Blakemore of West Tennessee. Her daughter Annie Lee (nicknamed "Gal") Blakemore was my paternal grandmother. Annie Lee married John Collins (nicknamed Babe) Newsome, who was my paternal grandfather. Their youngest son Eddie Lee (nicknamed Pete) Newsome was my father. He was born in Whiteville, TN in the 1930s. Whiteville is located in Hardeman County which is adjacent to and southeast of Haywood County.

Yvonne

Hi Colin
I traced my Blakemore ancestors back to Darleston, Staffordshire. Their records go back there to 1520 in St Lawrence Church ( accesible online at www.familysearch.org)
They were farmers & nail makers and seemed to spread out to surrounding areas from there. MY particular branch moved up to Atherton, Mancs. which was another thriving nail making centre.
The majority of Blakemore seemed to originate form either Darleston or Bishops Nympton in Devon
Chris Blakemore

Hi Colin,
According to my rootsweb search my Blakemore lineage comes from Bishops Nympton, Devon, England. The earliest date is for Blakemore surname is for Hugh Blakemore born 1561. His father Thomas and wife are mentioned without the benefit of dates

An Edward Blakemore migrated to the Virginia Colony in 1714. I am his direct ancestor. There are no Blakemores from England directly related to me since that date.

rogerblakemore

I hope this information is of use and perhaps you can establish a lineage based on the information supplied.

My family is originally from Birmingham (West Bromwich) England (UK), my grandfather's name was William Edward Blakemore. Obviously not the one you are looking for because he moved to Cornwall (UK) around 1935 with his family, not to Boston MA, but I'm wondering whether there could be any relationship between the William that moved to Boston, MA and my grandfather; I don't know anything about my grandfather's parents, nor whether or not they had any siblings, etc., but I do know that my grandfather had a brother called Samuel; but we don't know what happened to him as they stopped communicating with each other. As Blakemore is quite a rare surname in the UK, it is at least feasible that there may be a connection... If you know anything that might link these together I would be interested to know. Thanks.

My family is originally from West Bromwich, although I don't know a great deal about them. My name is Colin Blakemore, my father was called Eric Wilson Blakemore, his father was William Edward Blakemore and I know my grandfather had a brother called Samuel Blakemore whom he lost contact with when my grandfather moved to Cornwall around 1935. Not sure if this is any use to you, but if you think there could be any connection with your family I would be very interested to hear about it. Thanks.

Yes, my ggg grandfather is William Blakemore Crain, and his parents were Jasper Crain and Mary Clifton. I have Jasper being born in 1766 in Virginia to Ambrose and Elizabeth Crain. He came to So. Illinois via TN, arrived about 1816 with his brother and their families along with several of the Spillers. Spenser S Crain was Jaspers brother to my best knowledge. Jasper did have a son he named Spencer after his brother. Also James Terry Crain(Big Terry) whom married Melvina McCowan is my gg gpa. It sounds like we are definately related somewhere if we share all the same ancestors. would u like to share more info?

His son Thomas was baptised in 1625
at Brewood, Staffs, and the name has remained in that locality and nearby Wolverhampton until the present day.
I am gggg granddaughter of Jasper Crain (1766-1850) and would like to share information on Crainville. I'm thinking your Jasper is Jasper Uriel Crain b 1811, whom was the nephew of the 1766-1850 Jasper I descend from. I would be interested to know about the land lot that is still in the family. Is it the one by Hurricane Cemetery? What was your ggrandmother Crain's first name? Try my e-mail str8t_fan75@mchsi.com if it would be easier for you to reply that way.
Brenda Crain

I am a decendant of Jasper Crain. My grandmother's mother was a crain. I am from southern illinois and grew up in a town next to Crainville, Illinois for which Jasper was named after. He donated the land for which the Baptist church and the school was built on. One of Jaspers childrens land lots is still in the family to this day. I have plenty of information if needed.
doug_north_mi@yahoo.com

Hopefully this isn't too late and someone is monitoring this board. My name is Charles Blakemore and I lived in Texas for around 40 years. I grew up in Austin and lived in the Houston area for most of those 40 years. I had one sister named Carol and another sister still living named Sharon. If I am the Charles you are looking for, you can easily find me. I currently live in Eldora, Iowa. I am looking forward with great anticipation at who exactly might be looking for me. I have this set to alert me if anyone replies to this thread. Please contact me. I did have a second cousin named Amy.

Edward Blakemore/Frances Eames

Have 2 pages from Source: "Maker's of America, Vol. III, Harlein Society Visitation Records, 1620" pg. 88-89, "The Visitations of Bishop's Nympton" (Sutro Library, San Francisco, Cal.) All birth or baptism or marriage dates from "Bishop's Nympton Parish register".

This suggests that Edward Blakemore who married Hannah Rogers was the son of John Blakemore & Margaret Manning.

and that John Blakemore was the son of Edward Blakemore & Frances Eames.

and that Edward Blakemore ws the son of Hugh Blackmore & Joanna Whetstone.

and that Hugh was the son of Thomas Blackemore & Honor Snowe.

This documentation makes the most sense of what I have seen so far.

hello. I note that you have some court documents referenced in some data you have re John Blakemore Sr. and wife Ann Tomlin as follows:

RUSSELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA DEED BOOK 4 (1806 - 1814)

Law Order Book #4

Page 438
02 Feb 1813
In Chancery: William Rhea, John Alley and David Cock Plt. Against Andrew Davis & Nancy his wife, John Norris and Hannah his wife, John W. Crunk and Nelly his wife, George Paine & Sarah his wife, Elmore Douglas & Elizabeth his wife, Stephen Cantrill and Molly his wife, heirs of John Blackemore dec'd, John Carter, Norris Carter the heirs of Silas Enyart dec'd - the heirs of Samuel Porter dec'd. Samuel Haddox, Henry Hamblin, Samuel Auxer, William Blackemore, Thomas Blackemore, and George Blackemore def's. Def's not inhabitants of Commonwealth of Virginia.

now for my question:
do you have any idea who George Paine and wife Sarah are? the record indicates they are among John Blakemore's heirs. Is Sarah a dau I've never heard of? You input will be greatly appreciated.
In the Marshall Co. archives, I found listed Marshall Co. residents who married in Marion Co. WV. Listed was Elijah Blakemore married Mary Morgan 12 May 1892. Mary was my great aunt. They were both listed as 21, making their dates of birth ~ 1871. I found one Elijah Blakemore born in 1838 to a Thomas Blakemore and Sarah Bowers. Does anyone have any information on these Blakemores? I can find nothing any later mentioned in WV. Please if someone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Sarah

I am a descendent of a Bird(Byrd) Blakemore who, with his brother Granville, migrated to Texas from Tennessee after slavery and settled in Neches (Anderson county), TX in the 1800s. Byrd married Lucy Coleman. One of their sons, Pete
(a twin to Phillip, was my grandfather. Pete's oldest child was my mother, Billie Doris Blakemore Hatcher. According to oral stories, Byrd and Granville had a sister who died at a young age.
Could these Blakemores in Texas be related to any in Tennessee?

Does anyone have a Blakemore-Crain connection. My gggf was William Blakemore Crain, son of Jasper Crain (1766-1850), married Mary Clifton. Grandson (I think) of Spencer Crain (1740-1824) and Elizabeth Barbour (1751-1835).

Blakemore was a fairly common name in NC and TN where the Crains were located in the 1700's.
