Hi - my name is Rod Blaker - I and others are doing a One Name Study of all Blakers everywhere, in conjunction with the Guild Of One Name Studies (GOONS) - on the web. We (The Blaker Society or TBS)are gradually doing all countries where the name appears but have left the US till later because of the great variety of origins and the numbers of Blakers.
We have a web site at www.blaker.org.uk/ and one and all are welcome to visit.
I would like to make contact with the Bleikers/Blaker people - so that we could work together - I hope - and share data etc.
Can someone who is interested contact me at rod.blaker@gmail.com ? I am in Ottawa, Canada. Thanks Rod

John Blaker, United Empire Loyalist

John Blaker arrived in Canada West - now Ontario - from the US about 1770 - 1775.

By definition that made him a United Empire Loyalist. And got him land; his wife Catherine, sons George and Gilbert, daughters Jane (Ripsom) and Lucretia (whose nickname was Tinkle) all applied for Crown land grants.

Married Catherine Meyers, 1788, I think, daughter of Capt Meyers of Kings Loyal Rangers.

One of Johns sons - George, Gilbert, maybe Alexander, married or didn't, a native Ojibwa maid. Their son was George Blaker, born c.1821, maybe in the Bay of Quinte, maybe Grape Island; who subsequently became a Methodist Missionary to his own people.

This Rev George Blaker: I would like to know the names of his father and his mother.

All events took place in Ontario, in varius places: County of Northumberland, Bay of Quinte and Prince Edward County, Ameliasburg, Fredericktown, Rawden; and perhaps Prescott, Kingston and or Peterborough.

The name is actually Blaker - but it can appear as Blacker and Bleecker.

Any help hugely appreciated; would like to get on with the rest of my life - time's running out !!!

rod.blaker@gmail.com

Looking for Henry Blaker's father, he was born 1818 in Labanon Penn. He moved to Green Co Indiana in 1853. I thought is father was John Blaker born 1807 in Labanon Penn but he would have only been 11 when henery was born. John married a Rebecca Cormen Or Caffery. The Obt for John says that her named was Cormen. I fine John 62, John D 25, Henry 32, John H 23 all living in Green Co Indiana in the 1870 census. Would appricate any info you have E-mail is judygoldstar51@embarqmail.com Phone is 317-736-6730 Thanks

I am tring to find out about his father. I think his father was John Blaker, but the dates are not right. John was born in 1803 that would make him 15 or so. I fine all of them living close to each other in the 1870 Green Co.
Hi Josie I was reading an old message of yours on root web re Fanny Blaker and Edmund D Faithful your information is not quite correct. Henry Freeman Blaker was in fact married 3 times. First wife was Hannah Bysh in 1837 they had 1 girl child who died in infancy her name was Mary. In 1841 census he was living in Broadwater in a woman by the name of Hannah Colyers house don't know the reason why. Also living there was her daughter Mary Colyer and Marys husband William Beck and their 4 children In 1840 William Beck was sentenced to 10yrs transportation for theft and Mary was married to Henry. They had 7 children including Fanny b 1854. Then in the 1861 census he was married to Fanny Blaker b1820 in Lancing they had 4 children including my gggrandfather Joseph Freeman Blaker. Hope this helps.

Hi Bryan, I am looking to research my ancestry and information on our side of the family generally ends up at a dead end.Probably because we do not have a lot of info to start with. What I do know is that our grandfather was a John Blaker and grandmother was a Edith Ellen Blaker aka Nellie and not necassarily his wife as when our mother Dorothy was born Nellie is listed as a spinster who was a domestic servant who lived at 27 Washington St Brighton in 1912 the year of our mothers birth. In 1925 our mother was sent to New Zealand as an orphan, as Nellie was killed after being run over by a bus prior to 1925.This a long shot but hopefully you may be able to shed some light. Many thanks Maurice Roberts.

Hi Rod - yes Harold was Bertha's nephew (by marriage), he lived with her and his uncle Thomas in Toronto for a brief while. He died at the battle of Mount Sorrel. He also had a cousin Harold Alfred, exactly the same age, who died at Thiepval.

Thank you so much for this information. If you come across any descendants of Bertha (I presume they will be Canadian) do let me know.
Hi Rod - yes this is her, she married my great grandmother's cousin Thomas Clinkard in 1911 in Toronto. I am hoping to find some descendants who might be able to tell me what happened to her and Thomas and whether they had any children. They looked after my grandmother's cousin Harold, who was a British Home Child, for a while until he joined up with the Canadian forces, losing his life at the battle of Mount Sorrel in 1916.

You don't happen to know if she and Thomas had any children?
