BLAKLEY in Berlin NJ in 1946

William R BLAKLEY, formerly of Chester PA, died in Buffalo, Erie Co, NY on October 8, 1946. An obit in the Chester PA paper notes that he has a surviving brother living in Berlin NJ but does not name him.

I would like to identify this brother. It may be that he was born prior to 1894 in the Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co, PA area, father UNK BLAKLEY and mother Elizabeth HOLMES. Father may have died or parents divorced as mother is married to a Victor REFELD by 1900 and living in Philadelphia PA by the 1910 census.

Re: Earl B Ballard

Earl has been found in the 1900 census with his widowed mother. Composition of household indicates he was the son of Job B. Ballard and Susan M. Blakely as suggested in earlier message. Census listing was sent to me by a Tate family researcher. Earl's aunt Sally Ann Blakely married a Tate. Birth years don't all match exactly, but it's obvious this is the right family.

1900 CENSUS, ST. LOUIS CO, MISSOURI
City of St. Louis, ED 314, Sheet 1B
1 June 1900

SUE BALLARD, b Oct 1852, MO VA KY, widow, mother of two children, two living.
Earl, son, Mar 1879 MO KY MO telegraph operator
Vassie, dtr, Jul 1877 MO KY MO student
BLAKLEY, JOHN W., brother, Nov 1846 MO VA KY stock broker
REYNOLDS, W. Blakely and Susan Cooper (both b MO), died 7 Mar 1931 Webster Groves, St. Louis Co MO, bur New Hope Cem, New Hope MO (Lincoln Co MO?).
Re: Earl B Ballard

The WWI draft registration card of Earl Blakely Ballard gives his birth date as 12 Mar 1879 but doesn't indicate where he was born. Occupation: credit (manager?) of a Title Insurance company, 5th & Spring, Los Angeles CA. Nearest relative was daughter Eunicy Elizabeth Ballard, 6333 Franklin Circle, Los Angeles. Earl's home address was different from Eunicy's. (Sorry, I neglected to copy it while using Ancestry.com at the library today.)

RootsWeb's California Death Records online show Earl's mother's name was Blakely. The actual record might show both his parents' full names and the Missouri town or county in which Earl was born. His Social Security application might be a source of some info about his parents. Earl's marriage license application might list his parents' names and/or show his place of birth in MO. His birthplace might also be on his daughter's birth certificate.

One couple who might be his parents are Job Baskett Ballard, b ca 1848 KY, and Susan Mary or Mary Susan Blakely, b ca 1858 MO. According to the LDS International Genealogical Index, "Joseph B. Ballard" and "Mary Susan" Blakely were married in Lincoln Co MO on 12 Sep 1876. A bio of Mary Susan's father published in 1888 shows her as the widow of Job B. Ballard, but doesn't indicate whether she had any children. There may be a probate record for Job in Lincoln Co or Clark Co that might might name Earl as his son.

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/h/a/Kendrick-W-...

The web page above shows Job Ballard's parents and siblings and wife Susan Mary Blakely. RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project also shows a couple of submissions regarding Job, one of which mentions Susan Mary. WorldConnect also has a descendancy chart for her father, Samuel J. Blakely, and submissions on his father, John Blakely, Jr.

The Blakelys were in Lincoln Co MO in 1880. Couldn't locate Job and Susan in 1880, or Susan or Earl in 1900. Job's parents were in Clark Co MO in 1880. Job was with them there in the 1870 census.

See the web site at
http://www.mogenweb.org/lincoln/bios/bio-blakely-samuel.htm
for the bio of Samuel J. Blakely.

Henry Mazon Blakely was apparently born in Williamsburg, SC in March of 1884. He was found in the 1900 census in Clinch County, Georgia. His age was stated as 16. Between 1911 and 1914, he fathered three children, all of whom were born in Alabama. In August of 1918, he married a Virginia Sullivan in Valdosta, Georgia. He registered for the draft in September of 1918 in Berrien County, Georgia. He is supposed to have died March or May 30, 1919. His place of death is unknown.

I'm looking for a Robert Blakely-I'm not sure about the Blakely spelling-who was married to a Jeane Brown, served in the military, had a son with Jeane and gave him up for adoption to the man Jeane remarried. The son, David, was born in 1949 and I do know that Robert had a sister, Elaine, who lived in Utah until her death. Does this ring a bell to anyone? Thank you.
My grandfather, John Franklin Blakley, was married twice, Beulah was his only child with his first wife, Mary Jean Clemens. Beulah was born 11/20/1905, in San Benito Co., CA. The family was still living there in April of 1906 because my grandfather talked about feeling the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 in Hollister, CA where he was living at the time. After divorcing Mary Jean, Grandpa returned to Kansas where he married my grandmother, Pearl Kinnett.
June Martin
