Francis Barto Blalock is my 3rd great grandfather. Virgil Clinton Blalock would be a child from his first marriage with Mary Elizabeth Bradshaw (1862 – 1908). I am descended from Virgie Mabel Blalock, a child from his second marriage with Sallie VanHohn (1871 – 1952).

Welcome to my world. David Blalock who married Patsy Dennis is my 2nd great grandfather. Send an email and I will send an invitation to join my tree and you can check out more people. You seem to know some real stuff. One thing I learned the hard way is not to put anyone into my tree unless there is documentation. Now I have a bunch of inaccurate material that will take a long time to correct.
Researchers beware, Ancestry is full of junk, but there are a few gems too.

Here are the seven children of David Blalock and Elizabeth Swaringen. They are not from a "Will" but from the Estate papers and subsequent deeds, ordered from NC Archives). John, Mary Susan, Merritt Edney, Benjamin Crowell, Sophrona,Eliza, Judiah.

Now we can find many more records online.
For probate records go to familysearch.org
Scroll down to UNITED STATES and click.
Scroll down to NORTH CAROLINA and click.
On the right side look for NORTH CAROLINA PROBATE RECORDS and click.
Click on "Browse through 1,145,307 images"
You will find the list of counties. Click the county you want. Not all records are loaded. Also, the only index is the one in each individual book. If you know your year, you may still have to do some searching. It is not quick and easy but it's worth the trouble.
David Blalock 1808-1868 had seven children. David Blalock who married Patsy Dennis had many more than that, they are all listed in her pension application. I've been trying for a very long time to figure out how the two Davids were related but cannot.
OK but let me say this. There are seven of us working on the tree (more or less) That will established who his children were and excludes many many people who have been listed as brothers and sisters. I have the 1808 David in my tree, but don't have him as a part of my ancestors. I have spent several hours looking at that will. I had him in my tree, but was told that i could not keep him there. And so on and so forth.

David Blalock 1808-1868 was my great-great grandfather. His will was a deathbed will and not accepted; the court ordered an equal division of his property and all seven of his children shared. Then six of them sold their share to the seventh. I don't have a tree online but will share what I have and would like to see your tree. I too got messed up by inaccuracies. wonderdotwoman@yahoo.com

Yes I have him there in my family tree. If you send me an e-mail, I will send an invitation to join and you can rummage around in it. I don't know any other way to get it to you.
Be advised, my tree does not match a lot of others, but it is what I believe to be true. Add David to that list of names. There are lots of inaccurate things that I was foolish enough to copy into my tree which I am trying to clean up. Fools rush in, and at one time i was at the head of the list.

It is Scottish. Probably derived from Blacklock, meaning Black Lake.

Hello Evey,
My name is Susan Roman (52), I am the grandaughter of William Henry Blaock and Minnie Jane Blalock (Franklin). I live in Maryland. My Mother is one of 5 children, H. William Jr., Betty (my Mother), John, Nancy and Thomas. My Grandfather's sister was named Tallaquah and I know he had a brother named Murphy. My Grandfather moved from
Little Rock when my Mother was 12 years old. My Mother used to tell of a family general store in Louisiana. We have lots of old photos of my grandparents with others hunting and fishing in Louisiana in the early 1900's. I am so excited to find this information, I have goosebumps ! I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest Regards,
Susan
Wesley Blalock - Kentucky, Ohio

I haven't seen any reference to Wesley Blalock (1825-1895) in these posts, nor can I find any family connections. He is my g-g-grandfather, born in Kentucky, became a farm laborer in southern Illinois, then enlisted in Illinois 31st Regiment and was wounded in Ft. Donelson action. Later settled in Williamsburg, Ohio and worked as a handicapped chair factory worker. I suspect he may have been born in Sedalia, KY because he named a daughter Sedalia (and another daughter Centralia after his enlistment location in Illinois). Does anyone know anything about Wesley or the Blalocks that settled in Graves County, Kentucky? Thanks, Steve

Hello, I saw your speculation regarding whether this line traces to William, son of Jarrett Wilson Blalock and Anne Williams. I do not believe any of these names trace to William. No disrespect intended, but I beileve Ms. Green was incorrect in stating William's whereabouts in 1853. Family members have consistently told me that Jarrett Wilson was our William's father. The LDS database has Jarrod Nelson as his father's name, but the Catholic records have Jarrod Wilson. I think it's unlikely that there was a second Jarrod (Nelson) who married an Anne Williams in the same time period.

From Kentucky, William moved to New Orleans and then to Morrow (near Opelousas), St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. There, he married Marie Aveline (Evelina) Burleigh on 14 Oct 1845. To my knowledge, and per family records, they had only five children:

Gilbert (1847- ) was married three times, to Sarah Sallie Corsey, Ruth Autry, and Morgan Johnson. I do not have a death date for Gilbert, but he is buried at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. The headstone is marked only with his name, and the Clerk of Court's office has been unable to locate the death record. His last wife, Morgan, is buried next to him. Gilbert dropped off the Census records between 1920 and 1930.

William Stanford (1849–1927) married Lucy E. Vannoy.

Marie Eliza (1850-1860).

Louisiana Blalock, called Louisa Anna later in life (1850–1921), married James Reed Jr.

Marie Emerite (1854- ) married Ivac Fisher.

My husband descends from Gilbert. To my knowledge, Gilbert's first wife, Sarah, died after the birth of her child, David Edward (1877–1953). Gilbert then moved to Tarrant County, Texas, where he married his second wife, Ruth Autry. Sons William Franklin (1887–1972) and Joseph Ewell (1888–1946) were both born in Smithfield, Tarrant, Texas. Gilbert returned to Louisiana to manage his parents' farm in Morrow. Six children followed: Tallaquah (1891–1973), Tallula (1892- ), Murphy John (1893- ), Henry William (1898–1963), Annie (1900-1993), and Gilbert Jr. (1902- ). No children were born from Gilbert's marriage with Morgan.

David Edward married Mary Eugenia Sawyer. They moved between St. Landry and Avoyelles Parishes over the years. They had six children: John J, David Austin, Sallie Marie, William Leo, Mary Pauline, and Paul Joseph.

William was my husband's grandfather. He married Marie Louise Helena Chenevert, from New Roads, Pointe Coupee, Louisiana, on 19 Oct 1914. They had two children, Dennis Ferrell and Rita Grace. The family first lived in New Roads, and then moved to Evergreen (near Alexandria), Louisiana.

Ewell first married Louise's sister, Ella Celeste Chenevert. They had one child, Ruth Odele. The family lived in New Roads, Louisiana. His second wife was named Clara Belle. I do not know if Ewell and Clara had any children, but I know they lived in Commerce, Texas.

Tallaquah married Grover Cleveland Dunbar. They were unable to have children. They lived first in St. Landry and then in Avoyelles Parishes.

Murphy married Clara Mary Couvillon. They lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and had three children: Shirley Claire, Earl and Blanche.

Henry (sometimes called "Royal") was married and had children. Unfortunately, I have lots of photos of his visits home, but no identification other than "Henry and his family" on any of them! They lived in Maryland, near Washington, DC... so trying to find him through Census records is a bit hopeless (too many men named William Henry Blalock). If you happen to know of a Louisiana Blalock in that region, during that time period (post-World War I until 1970's), please let me know!

Annie married Leon Dunbar, the brother of Tallaquah's husband. They had at least three children: Ione, Irving, and Leona. The family lived in Evergreen, Louisiana.

Unfortunately, I have almost no information about Gilbert Jr. He was born in 1902 and appears on the 1910 Census. I cannot find a Census record for him in Louisiana in 1920 or 1930.

My Blalock mystery is positive identification of which David Blalock (son of who) was the father of Jarrett Wilson. We first thought it was the David who married Frances Champion, but we have found no documentation. If you have thoughts on this, I would appreciate a message!

Evey
I do not know of any Welches in my family. Blalock is my maiden name. Here is a quick list of ancestors from my father, Inis Blalock, back to the arrival of John Blalock in the colonies around 1666.Some of this information came from my cousin, Ernest. He has been doing this for a lot longer than I have.
Inis Blalock
Lucious D & Lillie Clayton Blalock
Dewitt Wm & Lureanea Tilley Blalock
Wm Green & Lucretia Tilley Blalock
Barnett & Prudence Oakley Blalock
William & Mary Cash Blalock
Millington & Eliza (?) Blalock
William & Elizabeth (?) Blalock
John 2nd & Elizabeth (?) Blalock
John 1st & Mary (?) Blalock
This John 1st is on record in old York Co, Va. in 1667, I assume he came from England.
He is listed in the estate records of a man he was indentured to, having 4 more years to serve, along with several other people. This line of Blalocks eventually were in Louisa Co as counties were devided. Then Brunswick Co before it was divided up. Then in N C before there was a western boundry line to the counties to the west.
