I have a question about the records you found the information in. I have Thompson McGovern (McGowan) as being Leroy Lee Blancett's son, which is Petter Blancett's son. I have him as being born 8 October 1841 and I believed that he had died around 1870 (which I believed to be young) because I couldn't find him on the 1840 Census from Jackson, AL I also have that his mother was Salley Sarah Parks.

I have only concentrated on direct lines of my dad, so I didn't delve into T.M. very much. His brother (I believed) William, would have been William Calvin who had William C. Blancett Jr., who eventually married Minnie Black who I know had my grandfater John Morgan Blancett.

Please let me know what you think about this information.

I undrstand he ran for a political (Socialist) party in the 1930's in Terre Haute,IN. He left them in Terre Haute, IN and moved to Chicago, IL. I have just started to dig for my family. I don't know how to find anything but to ask. Thank you for any thing you can give me.
Jill Coppess

Re: Family Tree of Grandfather John Morgan BLANCETT

Let's sink a cattle boat! The T.M.Blancett you refer to was my great grandfather, born in Jackson County, Alabama, son of Leroy and Sarah Parks Blancett. I first heard the "cattle boat from France" myth from my aunt Ethel Blancett Davenport, but it is totally bogus. I have no idea where she got that idea. Census records and other documents plus DNA testing clearly prove that he was born in Alabama into a family with roots going back into Virginia in the 1700s.

Another item is that Laura Cline was his third wife (if not fourth, but that's not certain). It is certain that T.M. married Mary Catherine Cline 26 Jan 1864 in Davidson Co., TN. She bore three children (Jennie, Ella, and Henry A.) and died 27 Dec 1871 in Randolph Co., AR. Meanwhile her younger sister Laura Belle Cline married Andrew Jackson Hunter 15 July 1864, also in Davidson Co., TN. Andy fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, was captured, and he later died in a POW camp near Chicago. They had one son, Jesse Andrew, born in 1866.

After T.M.'s wife Catherine died, he married Malinda J. Bly 20 Mar 1872 in Randolph Co., AR. She bore one child who died in infancy, and then Malinda died, either in 1872 or 1873. Next the widower T.M. married the widow Laura Cline Hunter 13 May 1873 in Powhatan, Lawrence Co., AR. They had eight children together, one of whom died a week after birth. T.M. died 12 Dec 1901 in Cleveland Co., Oklahoma Territory. Laura died in 13 Mar 1938 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., OK. They are buried side by side in Willow View cemetery near Lexington, Cleveland Co., OK.

Incidentally, I believe T.M.'s given name was Thompson McGowan. Many people have attached the middle name McGovern, but I believe that is a misreading of the 1940 letter by W.C.Blancett, Jr. naming the children of Peter Blancett of Jackson Co., Alabama. After the Civil War, T.M. seems to have been known in public records only as Tom or T.M., and his tombstone spells his name TOMAS M. BLANEITT. The physical appearance of the e in the last name is clearly a botched job by the headstone engraver.

Allen

I believe John W. Blancett was a brother of Jesse Blansett of Cannon County, TN. They married sisters in Gibson County in 1843. Would be happy to share my information on Jesse's family and would like to have more information on John's. Particularly interested in any information on their Virginia origins.

John Wesley BLANSIT Family

In reference to what the "W" stands for, my grandfather was John "Wesley" Blansit (they called him "J.W.") (b. 1898 in Oklahoma territory). His father was James Preston Blansit (Senior.) b. 1858. I'm having a hard time finding the parents for James Preston, but during my research I have come across the name "Wesley" in the Blansit/Blancet/Blancett, etc. families quite often. Not sure if that's what your "W" stands for or not.

HENSON/BLANCETT & Carlisle Indian School (PA, USA)

Hi, was interested in your history of Harden BLANCETT's family, especially his grandson John Henson. You say John attended the Carlisle Indian School.

I've been looking at the Indian School records here in Carlisle [Pennsylvania] and have not come up with that name. In fact, the consultant here says it is unlikely that a boy from the Cherokee Nation would have attended here, since the purpose of the school was to "assimilate" the "uncivilized" tribes (yes, I know) and the Cherokees were considered already assimilated. She says many people have the Indian School as part of their family lore because it was well known, and someone at some point adds it to the story. However, she did say that not all the records are here, and that one should check with the Cherokee Nation authorities.

So, I was wondering if you have some specific documentation for John Henson, or if he had another Cherokee name that he could have used as a student. I would be glad to keep looking if you have more information. I notice there is a Thomas Henson ("Indian") family living next to Lizzie [Blancett] Henson ("white" with "Indian" children) in the 1900 census (Indian Territory, Cherokee Co., Flint Twp, p. 271 ED 47), but he is married with children.

By the way, Lizzie's father Harden Blancett is not the Hardin Blancett from Virginia, b. abt 1837; Lizzie's father was b Mar 1850, according to the 1900 census (same page as Lizzie). interesting family!

Grandparents of James H BLANCET (TN, USA)

Donald
More on the ancestors of James Harvey Blancet (1894-1962). I believe I have James Harvey Blancet's grandfather (also father of G H Blancet, James Harvey's father) in the 1870 census:
1870 census for Tennessee, Perry County, 11th Civil District, Linden, p 501 line 33 family 66:
James Blancet, 23, works on farm, $100 personal, born Alabama, can't write.
Mary A, 22, keeps house, born Tennesse.
They are both marked "married within the year" with the notation "(Oct)".

This meshes with a record from familysearch.com from the Perry County Tennessee courthouse records that James Blancet married Mary A Richardson on 14 Oct 1869.

I traced previous censuses to find Mary A Richardson in her original family. I believe she is in the 1860 census for Perry County, Tennessee, Linden, p 300, line 23 family 116. The family is
William Richerson, 33, farmer, $300 Real, $75 personal, b Tennessee
Martha J, 32, b Tennessee
Maryan, 12, b Tennessee
Elizabeth, 10, b Tennessee
Nancy J, 10, b Tennessee
Andrew J, 6, b Tennessee
Martha C, 3, b Tennessee
Mima C [female], 1, b Tennessee.

Don't know where James Blancet was in 1860.

Janet

This isn't my line but I found this information while looking for another James Blancett. George is the son of JAMES H. BLANCETT who lived in Perry Co., TN. He joined the TN Calvary on October 15, 1863 and was a Private in Co. B, 10th Regt.and served in Capt. John C. Duff's Company; his service record was attested in 1881 by J. B. Simmons and R.A. Kimbel of Perry Co., TN. He was granted a pension, No. 669048, due to injuries suffered. He married Mary A. Richardson on October 14, 1870 in Perry Co., TN, this being the first marriage for both. She was born April 6, 1848 to Alfred Richardson and Martha Jane Richardson. They moved to Milan Co., TX in 1892, along with their son George H. Blancett and other children. See Cimarron, TX for the family. James died October 14, 1894. On July 1, 1895, Mary's aunt Nancy Elizabeth Richardson, age 60 and the sister of Mary's mother Martha Jane Richardson testified to births of James' and Mary's children.
•	George H. born ca 1872
•	E.J. born ca 1874,
•	M.E. born ca 1876
•	N.E. born ca 1878
•	Mary Jane born April 8, 1881
•	James, born March 10, 1883
•	Brison born June 8, 1886
•	Pernella born February 10, 1888
•	Robert born February 12, 1892
Re: John Wesley BLANSIT Family

Cheryl, have you ever determined who the father of James Preston Blansit b 1858 was? He is one of the Blansits I have tried to locate census records for. You published a post elsewhere where you said that James Preston was "raised by his grandmother." I am pretty sure I have them in the 1870 census for Henderson County, Texas, Precinct 3, Athens PO, p 285 family 113:
Daily, Bakiah [hard to read], 71, farmer, $500 real, $275 personal, b SC
Julia A, 58, keepinghouse, b Tennessee, can't read or write
America A, 25, b Arkansas, can't read or write
Julia A, 14, b Arkansas,
Blanchet, James P, 12, farm laborer, b Arkansas

I believe the Julia A who is the wife of Daily or Baily in 1870 is also in this 1850 census for Henderson Co., Texas, p 131 family 135:
Blue, Moses H, 58, farmer, b Tennessee
July Ann, 38, b Tennessee, can't read or write
William H, 20, blacksmith, b Tennessee, attended school
Sarah B, 16, b Arkansas
Blancet, John W, 15, farmer, b Alabama, attended school
Blue, Elisabeth C, 14, b Arkansas
John H, 11, b Arkansas
Douglas A, 8, b Arkansas
Blancet, America A, 5, b Arkansas
Blue, Moses H C, 2, b Arkansas
Wingfield L, 1m, b Texas

If I am correct here (and there is a small amount of other information that supports this), then Julia A (July Ann) was married to a Blancet, then to Moses Blue, then to Bakiah Daily or Baily. The John W Blancet living with her in 1850 was likely her son, and the James P Blanchet in 1870 was probably her grandson. Therefore, it's likely that your James P's father was John W born about 1835 in Alabama. So far I have not been able to determine which Blancet Julia was married to (John W's father) but I'd like to know if you think this makes sense.

Janet Wright

Laura, I am interested in records for this Blancett family line. In particular, I can't find William Calvin Blancett (b 1865), father of your John Morgan Blancett, in the 1920 and 1930 census. Do you know where he lived during that time? I have William C Blancett in Craighead Co., Arkansas, in 1910 census. I have an address for him of Newport, Jackson County, Arkansas, for 1940, and information that he died in 1949 in Los Angeles Co., California.
If you have census records or residence information for the family between 1910 and 1940, I would love to have that. Let me know if there is specific information I might be able to share with you too. I have lots of Blancett family data. - Janet
