Geroge Blanche shot and killed Bill Davis

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 23 July 1903, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

SHOT HIS MAN

Muskogee: Bill Davis, who is well known in Indian Territory, was shot and killed by George Blanche, a lad of 17 years old. The tragedy occurred four miles west of Canadian. Davis overtook the boy on a public road and Blanche says sought to intimidate him and harass him by dragging him from his horse. The youth drew a revolver from his saddlebags and shot Davis twice, one through the heart and one through the head. Blanche gave himself up to the United States Commissioner Marshal.

Rorbert, Harriett, Arthur, Ada BLANCHE London & Essex 1902 > present

I am seeking information on descendants of Robert BLANCHE and Harriett Smith of London, England.

Here is what I know about this BLANCHE family:

• Robert Henry BLANCHE (b. 1871 Poplar, London) was the eldest son of Thomas BLANCE (original spelling) of Shetland and Margaret SAUVAGE of Bromley, London. Robert’s occupation was “Lighthouse Keeper.” Harriett Mary SMITH (b. 1870 Devon, England) was the daughter of Hugh SMITH of Devon, England and Ambrosine __?__ of Devon, England.

• Robert BLANCHE and Harriett SMITH married on 2 August 1899 in Devonport, Devon, England and they had a least two children: 1) Arthur BLANCHE (b.1900, South Wales) and Ada Alexandra BLANCHE (b. 1902, Poplar, London). This family was living at 21 Woodstock Rd., Poplar, London in 1902, while Robert was listed as Assistant Lighthouse Keeper, on Ship “Maplin” at Shelford Creek Foulness Island, Essex. After 1902 I lose their trail.

Does anyone recognize any of these names? A second cousin in California would like to correspond with possible descendants.
Thomas Sauvage BLANCHE London & Canada 1915 > present

I am seeking information on descendants of Arthur Sauvage BLANCHE of London, England and Canada.

Here is what I know about Arthur BLANCHE:

• Arthur Sauvage BLANCHE (b. 1888 Plaistow, London) was the son of Thomas BLANCE (original spelling) of Shetland and Margaret SAUVAGE of Bromley, London. He is recorded with his natal family in West Ham, London (1891) and Poplar, London (1901) and then on December 22 1915 he enlists in the 117th O/S Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On the application he lists “Mechanical Engineer” as his trade and states that he previously had served three years with the 53rd Regiment. After this I lose track of him, although family tradition says that he may have been lost at sea during WWI.

Does anyone recognize this name? Can anyone suggest how I would research the names of Canadians killed during WWI? A second cousin in California would like to correspond with possible descendants.
Charles Blanche was married in 1904 St.Marylebone, london to Grace Adelaide McAllister and in the same year they had a son Charles Walton. Although the research for Grace Adelaide is complete, I cannot find anything about Charles and his son Charles Walton. Did Father and son go to the United States hoping to find a better life there? Charles and Grace had another son, named Phillip in 1909 and both Grace and son Phillip certainly carried on living in england.
Mary Blanche
blanchesreedham@msn.com

Re: Blanche family of St. John's Newfoundland

Hi,

Also posted on the Donnelly and O'Neil Boards, I finally learned the married name of Mary O'Neil b. Jan 3, 1905 to Mary Ellen (nee Blanche) O'Neil in the above post:

Looking for distant relatives...descendants of Mary (nee O'Neil) Donnelly of Boston, MA. Born Mary O'Neil in Boston to Edward (of Palmer) and Mary Ellen (nee Blanche) O'Neil 1 / Outhouse 2 of St. John's Newfoundland on Jan 3, 1905. Her brother was Leo F. O'Neil b. approximately 1906/07. Mary Donnelly passed in Aug 1978 in Boston.

I am researching the Blanche line in Newfoundland and wonder if anyone in this family might be able to provide further details, etc. To my knowledge only Edward and sister Mary Ellen Blanche came to the United States. Please contact me.

Thanks,

Michael

Blanche family of St. John's Newfoundland

Edward Blanche m. Ellen McManus

Children:

James baptized Mar 11,1860
Mary Ann baptized Sep 1,186
Bridget Ann baptized May 1,1864
Elizabeth b. Sep 17,1868
Patrick Frances Joseph b. Nov 8,1870
Edward b. Aug 25,1872
Mary Ellen b. Sep 22,1875

Edward Blanche, and Mary Ellen O'Neil 1/Outhouse 2, daughter and son to Edward Blanche and Ellen McManus of St. John's Newfoundland both died in Boston I do not know the whereabouts of the remaining siblings. Mary had two children by her first marriage, Edward apparently none.

Have also confirmed Blanche relatives of Edward and Mary Ellen that died in the Boston area, namely Mary Anne (Hughes) d. 1914. Her brother Edward Greene may have come to Boston as well and had a family, though I have not confirmed this yet. I decend from Mary Anne (Hughes). Mary Anne's mother was Bridget Blanche, her father John Greene (see my Greene post this same date).

Any additional information you can provide about this family would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-=Michael

Edward F. Blanche m. Ellen McManus, Newfoundland

I've been tracking my Blanche line and see that an Ellen McManus married Edward F. Blanche (date unknown) presumed in St. John's, Newfoundland. (See my previous post here - I now do not know who Mary Ann Prowse is). It appears at this time that it could be Edward's sister Bridget that I descend from. Just passing along the Blanche details here:

I know that Edward F. Blanche had at least two children with Ellen McManus, one also named Edward F. Blanche who appears to have died single at the age of 58 in Boston, USA in 1930. When he died he was living with his sister Mary Ellen (nee Blanche) Outhouse. Mary Ellen had previously been an O'Neil and had two children by her first marriage Leo F. O'Neil, and Mary E. in the Boston area (Mary Ellen appears in the 1910 U.S. Census on Liverpool St. with the two children, but does not indicate she is a widow). I do not yet know Mary's, the daughter, married name, but child Leo F. O'Neil appears in the 1930 U.S. Census in Boston married to Theresa M, with child Leo F. Jr., on Adams St., Boston. Ths line would be all distant cousins if my math is correct.

If you have any further details, please contact me.

Thanks,

-=Michael
I am seeking information on descendants of Peter, Jessie, and Helen BLANCHE, who were born in Edinburgh, Scotland in the 1890s and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia around 1910. Peter, Jessie, and Helen ("Nellie") were the children of Peter BLANCHE (b. 1838 Shetland, d. 1907 Edinburgh) and Jessie St. Claire TAYLOR [DUTHIE] (b. 1854 Edinburgh, d. 1927 Burnaby B.C.).

Here is what I know about the "younger" BLANCHES:

1) Peter BLANCHE (b. 1890 Edinburgh, d. 1956 Vancouver) married Helen CUNNINGHAM (b. 1899 Vancouver). Peter and Helen had at least three children; two who died as infants and Roy BLANCHE (b. 1925 Long Beach, CA, d. 1975 Sechelt B.C.), who was married to Cecile PIGEOT; children unknown.

2) Jessie St. Claire BLANCHE (b. 1890 Edinburgh) married Percy Hill in Vancouver in 1913; children unknown.

3) Helen "Nellie" BLANCHE (b. 1892 Edinburgh) married Cuthbert Tom King in Victoria in 1917; children unknown.

Does anyone recognize any of these names?
Searching for info regarding an Edith Blanche. She was born in 1891 in Indiana. 1930 census indicates she married a Lloyd Hedge, aka loyd/floyd, around 1920. This may not have been her first marriage, as there is a child, Donald Hedge listed as a son, 1930 census, 16 yrs old, 4 yrs older than the lenght of her marriage to Lloyd Hedge. don't know if she brought Donald into the marriage, if he was born to Lloyd and another woman, or if they had Donald out of wedlock together. I believe she passed away in 1981 in Indianapolis, IN.

I would appreciate any info anyone may have that can help me as I am at a brick wall with this family.

Thank you,

Kimber

BLANCHE, Catherine - born 1781 / 1784

Hello from Alaska!

I am trying to find the birthplace and parents of Catherine BLANCHE who married Henry HANSON in 1803 in Whitehaven, Cumbria. I am a direct line descendent through their daughter Eliza Anne.

Details of their marriage and family can be found at http://www.alaska.net/~rvh/hanson.htm. Their wedding license states they are both from Whitehaven, however, no Blanche nor Hansons can be found from this area.

Henry Hanson was a member of the 5th Foot from 1798 to 1808 and I've recently found out the 5th Foot was in Guernsey in 1802.

Could Catherine and Henry have fallen in love in Guernsey and she followed him back to England where they married? Nice military love story if I can prove it.

So far, BLANCHE surname has been a total mystery. If anyone can assist or lead me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

Thank you in advance. Merried to Joseph Benjiman Peterbaugh of Kincarden Ontario who was known to have a sister named Violet.
Joseph Benjiman was said to have died of a heart attack and was found lying on the kitchen floor of his house with the tea Kettle still fixed in his hand.

sorry about the details but it's all I have.

Blanche - Kenova County, Pennsylvania, USA

Dear all,
On behalf of my grandfather i am trying to trace a grand uncle of his. This man left Connaberry, Ballon, Co. Carlow, Ireland around the 1860's/70's and fought in the American civil war. He sent home one letter describing the war and how he had survived. He continued to say that he had since had seven daughters and this was sent some years after the war. The letter was addressed re: subject and nothing was ever heard of him or his familky since. My grandfather is 87 now and i know he often wonders what happened to this man. Its a long shot but any info would be much appreciated.
yours sincerely,
Mervyn Farrell.
