Hi Sherry. Have been trying to get back to you re: Bland, MO. It was named for Richard Bland---congressman. He was called 'Silver Dick' Bland as he campaigned for silver dollars. I am thinking he was cousin or brother of W.A. Bland?? Some kin there but don't know for sure what kin! I don't know what year Bland was named for him, etc. Let me know if you find out anything, OK? Darla

Darla,

I'll get in touch when I have the Death Certificate. Dora and W.A. are both buried at Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Tulsa County, OK. You can copy photos of their headstones on findagrave.com. I have W.A.'s headstone photo in my tree on Ancestry, but haven't uploaded Dora's yet.

Thanks for the info re: the livery stable. I like getting personal stories to include in my tree. I know almost nothing about Dora or for that matter most of her siblings. I would really like to find out about her son Robert. Supposedly he became a doctor but......

Thanks again,
Sherry

Hi again! Would appreciate info on Dora when you get her death certificate. I am thinking she is buried next to my grandfather W. A. Bland who I think is buried at a cemetery in Pauls Valley, OK. Some background on W.A. Bland. He owned a livery stable in Pauls Valley, OK and his wife served meals to people putting their rigs & horses in the stable maybe for one days' shopping in town. I am not sure if it was Lizzie Gestes or Dora he was married to at the time. I know Mom said she remembered walking to school past the fire station which is still in the same place. I am thinking maybe he was married then to Dora as Mom wasn't attending school when W.A. and Lizzie were married. Hope this hasn't 'muddied the waters' for you in trying to find Dora! Good luck!
Hi Darla,

I don't have a definitive date for her death. Some researchers have it listed as 1915 in Bowers, OK but that isn't enough to go on. I'm going to send for Dora's death certificate to see if I can find anyone from her line that might have some more info on Eliza. I'm still trying to find a definitive date for her son William Marley's death as well. He died in OK around 1913.

Thank you for offering your help. It's greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you find any other info on Dora or her son.

Best,
Sherry

I've been trying to find out where her mother, my 2x great-grandmother Eliza Jane Frazier Brown is buried. Dora is sister to my great grandfather Dan Brown. I know Eliza is buried somewhere in OK but haven't tracked her down yet.Do you happen to know anything re Dora's son Robert? I'm not even sure of his last name considering they didn't always spell too well on the census records. I sure you're right on Dora being a later wife of Williams.I think he may have been her 3rd husband according to some info I got years ago.

Thank you for your reply If you think I can help you in any way, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sherry

Hello!
Thank you, Sherri, for your reply. I am getting a bit confused but you have straightened out one thing for me. I think grandfather (William Anderson Bland) was married to Lizzie Gestes before he married Dora Brown. I don't remember Mom ever calling D.Brown her step-mother, it was always her mother. Lizzie Gestes was her biological mother. Do you know any background on W.A. Bland? All I know is his folks came from Leake Co. Miss.
Thanks again! Darla

I remember her telling me about relatives in and around Franklin, WVA. I am pretty sure that she mentioned your name once or twice also. I do not know much about the Biby's (or Daugherty's for that matter), just mainly about the tragedy that followed when they moved to Oklahoma. Any information that you could tell me about the Biby's would be wonderful. Thanks, Lee

Hi Cynthia! Was truly glad to hear from you! First of all, I would truly like a photo of Wm Anderson Bland's gravesite! Thank you! I have a cy of a WWI draft card for Wm Anderson, it lists 'nearest relative' as Dora Bland..not Nora (??) You mentioned you didn't know abut William's right hand...well, I don't either! I know one of his legs was off right below the knee. He wore a 'pegleg'. I remember seeing him when he was so sick and was laying in bed at his home at Broken Arrow, OK. Mom (Ethel Frances) was there taking care of him. Anyway, I knew he loved us grandkids but he gave my brother 25 cents and gave me 15 cents...he said "boys need more money than girls"...I didn't care, I loved him anyway.
My mother was Ethel Frances Bland born 23 Dec 03. The date of death for Wm Anderson that you gave was 9 May l939 at Broken Arrow, OK and I feel 90% sure that's my grandfather.
Would you know anything about Gladys Bland?? I am thinking that she was a half sister to my mother, HER mother would've had to have been Lizzie Gestes.
Hope we can connect with the family history. Let me know or write me at Darla509@sbcglobal.net. Thanks again!!!

How kind of you to write back to me Darla, thank you so much! My email is cynthiahoney@live.com if you would like to email me and we can connect our trees. The other wife's name was Nora. It is possible she was a Bland cousin, I am having a lot of trouble finding her lineage. I did not know about Williams right hand, that is so interesting. Actually Troy's sister's name is Ethel born 1904. William Anderson died 9 May 1939 in Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. I have a picture of his grave site if you would like it.

He was a pastor, this photo was taken 1884 in Evanston, Illinois when he was the pastor at the Wabash Church.

EDIT: Original photo has been claimed by a relative. I'll leave this post up though as it does have a scan attached for any other interested parties. :)

Hi Beth,
I had a lot of trouble finding your Tree and found that for a lot of your Blands you haven't put 'Place of Birth'. This is probably why you are not getting a lot of 'hits' from other members or Bland relatives because Ancestry can't match them to anyone. Even just 'Lincolnshire' would help.
I was also wondering where you found the name Trollow for Jane, wife of William b.1676 ? I found this marriage on LDS Familysearch in Balderton, Nottingham in 1709 which sounds unlikely for Greatford Blands. Look forward to hearing from you, Joanne

Hi! At this late date, I will try to give you the info I have! My grandfather was William Anderson Bland, born l873 is what a WWI draft card says. Sounds about right..I am just now getting into trying to find my maternal ancestors and I hope I don't lead you wrong! "Nearest Relative" is listed as Dora Bland. They lived at Antlers, OK, Pushmataha Co. I am thinking she was MAYBE his first wife who passed away and he married Lizzie Gestes. I think my brother has an old Bible, will get with him and see, then let you know if I find anything. My mother told us a few things but child like we never wrote them down and I can't find her notes either. I know she had a brother named Troy and a sister Gladys. They both lived in California. My grandfather passed away at Broken Arrow, OK. I tend to go on and on but hope I've helped you some. Take care!

I don't know if I can add anything that helps you but I have a few names. My grandfather was William Anderson Bland and my grandmother was Lizzie Gestes as I understand but then Grandfather had been married before Lizzie and she had passed away. It could've been your Dora.
I have a WWI draft registration card and I am thinking it was the William Anderson I am looking for as it gives the place of registration as Antlers in Pushmataha Co. OK. and the birth date seems to be accurate. I was unaware that he had lost part of his right hand as the draft card says; I do know he had a wooden leg and had died as a result of it getting infected...septesemia...?? Anyway, it got infected and they called it 'septic'. My grandfather lived at Broken Arrow, OK at the time. He played a banjo and Mom said he just strummed it and didn't pick out the tune..maybe because he lost part of his right hand??
Now for the connection I had intended... :)....Mom had a brother named Troy and a sister named Gladys -- They were both a bit older than she was. The thing about this is Grandfather came from Leake Co. MS --- I don't think there could be two of the same name from the same place??
Mom always called Lizzie her mother but I think her mother was the lst wife and I don't know her name. Wish I could find Grandfather's birth certificate/record/something...I have chattered on and on. Would've answered you sooner but have been a bit busy. At any rate, hope I've helped you a bit and didn't muddy the waters too much!! If I find anything else that you might be interested in, I'll post it.
Hi can anyone help me.

I have been reading through the threads and no-one seems to have hit on my family from Baston and Market Deeping and Greatford in Lincolnshire.

I have managed to trace back to Willim Bland (B1743 Baston Lincolnshire) who married 1767 Ann Facon (B1745 Baston, Lincolnshire). The thing is there is a query over his father. I believe him to be William Bland (B1676) married to Jane Trollow (1676) - but the sibling thread is very confusing.

Has anyone any information please.

Beth

May.

So was Joseph Henry Bland born in North Carolina or in Ireland?

Was his wife, the mother of Robert Galbreath Bland, named Mary Ann Rae May or Mary Ann Ray?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Ellen Bland
