BLANDEN of Catamount Hill, Colrain, MA

Are you descended from Otis, Simeon, or Wheaton BLANDEN of Catamount Hill, Colrain, MA? If so, you are by birth a member of the Catamount Hill Association. www.catamounthillassociation.org
The Catamount Hill Association first met in 1875 after most of the residents of Catamount Hill had moved away. Their love of the Hill brought them back for a grand reunion, which was such a success it has been repeated every five years ever since. Today, the descendants of these 70 families still meet to celebrate our mutual heritage and to learn and share stories of our beloved Catamount Hill.
Our next meeting is this August 7, 2010 at the Colrain Central School at 10am. People come from all over the country, some having attended for many years, some for the first time as they rediscover their roots. Information about the event is on our website.
We are also gearing up to celebrate the bicentennial of the May 1812 flag-raising on the Hill in 2012. It is believed that this was the first time a US flag was raised over a schoolhouse. We are planning a weekend celebration in partnership with our sister organization, Mary Lyon Foundation, which owns the property where the monument is located. You can learn more about Mary Lyon at: www.mlef.org
I have done extensive research on Catamount Hill and its 690 residents from 1763-1875. I do have some further BLANDEN information and would be happy to share. I am also eager to learn more about the family and would like to include more about them and the other 70 Catamount families on our website. Please feel free to correspond with me directly at the above email, or you can contact the board at catamount1875@gmail.com.
Warm regards,
Sarah Johnson, President
Catamount Hill Association
Re: Blandin-Blanden children: Lorenzo, Angeline, M.M. and their mother Patience in KS 1865

Thank you for the data. It doesn't like your Blanden family is related to my 2g gf John R. Kirkland on the 1865 KS census of Franklin Co., Pottawatomie Twp. Perhaps he took your widowed 2g gm Patience and her children in his home after the death of John Blanden???
I see on the 1900 KS census, Franklin Co., Pottawatomie Twp. (Lane area) that your Blanden family is on the same page as my Uncle Roy Hendrix and Aunt Dot (Mills)Hendrix. So many of the people in Lane were of my family lines. My mother was born in Lane 1912.
Thanks again for your imput. Marysue....now in Aransas Pass, TX
P.S. Before posting this I checked in a book I have "Anderson County Kansas, Family Stories and History by Anderson County Historical Society", published Oct 1989 and on page 380 mentions the Blanden's.
"My grandfather, John T. Ramsey came to the Greeley vicinity in 1860 and spent nearly all of his 100 years in and around Greeley. He was born in Ohio in 1855. He married Angeline Blanden in 1874, the daughter of John Blanden and Patience Gould, who came to Greeley in 1855 when Kansas was a territory. John and Angeline were married by Rev. W.C. McDow, Angeline's step-father, a missionary to the Pottawatomie Indians. Her sister, Miriam Blanden married Lon Rigdon. Her brother, Lorenzo Blanden was the father of Hosea Blanden and Ida (Mrs. Gideon) Mills. Angeline was born 23 Sep 1854 in Illinois and died 19 Mar 1921 in Greeley."
I guess that kinda says it all...huh... What do you think??
It does give Patience's maiden name and a re-marriage name.
On the 1865 KS State Agri Census, Franklin Co., Pottawatomie Twp., Ohio City PO, there is a Blandin family living with my 2g gf John R. Kirkland and his family. I am curious to know who they were. I would like to know if their is a relationship of Blandin-Blanden to either the Kirkland's or Plummer's.

1865 KS Agri Cens.- Franklin Co., Pottawatomie Twp, Ohio City PO. Dwelling 74, Family 75, 1 & 2 Sep 1865 Line 10. (A confusing census!!. Also note that Ancestry .com shows this census two times, one is a complete handwritten page, image 42 and one is a standard census page, image 11. Kirkland is written as Kirklan).

KIRKLAN, John R. 60 m single TN Farmer Personal Estate $750.
Perry 20 m single AL
Daniel 10? m single AL
Elizabeth 35 f single IN (It said single, but John R. Kirkland married her 1863). The following are her children from marriage of Tillman Plummer)
PLUMER, John W. 11 m single MO
PLUMER, Mary K.? 9 f single MO
PLUMER, Elizabeth 6 f single MO
PLUMER, Lavina 2 f single KS. In the 1870 census, she is listed as a Kirkland)
I don't know the relationship of the following:
BLANDIN, Patience 47 f single OH Farmer $500 $100
Renzo? G. 16 m single IL
M.M. 12 f single IL
Angeline 10 f single IL

1865 Farm Schedule..Sep. 1 & 2, 1865
John R. Kirkland had 4 Horses, 5 Milch cows, 20 other cattle, 6 Swine. Value of livestock: $750.

I do know that:
Lorenzo Blandin-Blanden married Harriett and had a daughter Ida Bell Blanden who married Gideon G. Mills.
Angeline Blandin-Blanden married John T. Ramsey 23 Sep 1874 in Franklin Co. Kansas.

Thanks for any input on this question.
Marysue..... now in Aransas Pass, TX
