Charles Beaven Blanford/Blandford, 1705-1783, Maryland

This is a two-parter ---

1. Can someone tell me how Charles Blanford, son of Thomas Blanford and Sarah Beaven became known as Charles Beaven Blanford (besides the obvious). I can find no documentation where he is legally referred to as Charles Beaven Blanford/Blandford?

2. Has anyone figured out a more definite date on the marriages to [1] Rebecca and [2] Elizabeth?

I know there is supposedly a marriage to Ruth Sansbury between the above two marriages, but, I don't believe that the Charles who married Rebecca and Elizabeth is the same that was married to Ruth Sansbury.
Rebecca did not die until after November 1754 (when she gave her dower interest in the "Hickory Thickett."
In the following court documents, Ruth is referred to as both Beven and Blanford. In July 1755, the Governor referred to her as the "Wife of one Bevan." In March 1756, a deposition by Henry Darnell, a Justice of the Peace for PG. Co., refers to her as "Ruth Bevan or Ruth Blanford, the Wife of Charles Bevan Blanford....letter, signed by Charles Bevan, Uncle to Charles Bevan Blanford..."
In April, 1756, in a deposition of Samuel Roundell, of PG Co., (referring to Ruth) says that "Wife of one Bevan, ...was apprehended and bound over to June Court, 1754, in PG Co. This last date means she was the wife of 'a' Charles Bevan Blanford at least six months before Rebecca , Charles first wife, signed away her dower rights. Ruth's father, Thomas Sansbury, made restitution to Samuel Roundell and charges were dropped. Wonder what happened to her husband?

Thanks,
Linda
Lou.
Re: John Walter Blanford

Dear Margaret,
Your research has given me the leads to solve (I think) the puzzle of the Praire de Rocher Blanfords. I think the real clue was that Felix's father was Francis and had been born in Maryland.
Here are your Blanford ancestors, back to Thomas who arrived in Maryland in 1674:
Julia Ann(Anne)1877-1915
John Walter 1847-1928
Felix 1816-(?)
Francis X(or H) 1791-1852 born in Charles Cty,Md
John Pidgeon 1768(?)-1848
William Arthur 1740(?)-1803
Charles Beavan 1705-1782
Thomas 1680(?)-1749
Thomas 1648-1697
This last Thomas was the first in this country of our line. He appeared in Maryland in 1674 and settled along the Paxtaunt River (southeast of Washington). Where he came from is a mistery. Some think he came from Blandford Forum in Dorset, England (and there were Blandfords in Dorset at that time), but this is just a guess. As an aside, when my father visited me in England in the early '60's, we went to Blandford Forum: the town clerk told him that there were two disastorus fires there in the Middle ages, and that all the orphans were called Blandford.
This is a nice story for the tourist. If it is true it still doesn't solve Thomas' beginnings.
Thomas' desendants were soon farming throughout Southern Maryland (Prince Georges County, Charles County, and St.Marys Counties), and some are still there. However, after the Revolution (in which many Blandfords fought), almost all of Catholic Southern Maryland packed up and went to Kentucky, settling in those Counties along the Ohio River Southwest of Louisville.
This is why I refer to our line as the "Maryland/Kentucky" branch of the Blandford family. This keeps us seperate from those from New England (who preceeded Thomas by about 50 years), those from Virginia, and those that emigrated from England in the 1850's.
In our branch, Blandford and Blanford are the same. I think that because the "d" is silent, it disappeared.
Keep looking for cousins, Margaret. It is easier to find old ones that the young ones-and let me know.
Again, thank you! Regards Jim Blandford

Dear Marlilyn,
I have an extensive list of Blan(d)ford's, but don't have a Monica Blan(d)ford married to a Carrico in the 1700's. Do you have any more information, such as fathers name, date, state of the marriage (either Maryland of Kentucky)?
It's possible that the Monica I have (born about 1725) married a Carrlico as a second mate--but I don't show that.
Good luck in your research: maybe you'll fill out a whole new lline for me. regards Jim Blandford

Cutrena,

Thanks so much for answering my query! It's so rare that I get any responses.

Can you provide the full names of Norman's son, and the two aunts you refer to please? I have so little information to go on, and there are several Blanford's living in and around Riverside. If you have addresses or phone numbers, even old ones, they could be very helpful, too.

Thanks, Doug

Doug
Gertrude was my grandfathers first wife. He has 2 daughters with Gertrude who are still living as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. I don't stay in touch with them but I know uncle Normans son is in Riverside, CA and one aunt is in Oregon and one in Missouri. His second wife(my grandmother)caused a lot of animousity so the family has not kept in touch. The grandson in Riverside would be your best key to any information about Gertrude.

Becky,

I just came across your posting. My first cousin twice removed Gertrude Louise Wescott married a George Blanford. Census records indicate he was born in Illinois, so I'm hoping you can help me with this family. I'd like to get in touch with any descendants of George and Gertrude. I believe they had three sons:

Norman, now deceased I believe.
George, and
Harry.

The census records I have found are for 1930, and show them living in St. Louis, but Gertrude and George both appear to have died in Long Beach CA.

Any information you could provide on this family that might help me find descendants would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug Wescott
www.wescotts.org
I am looking for descendants of Martin and Lola Fern (EVERITT) BLANFORD. Martin was born in Nelson County, KY around 1900 to S. and Jennie (NEWTON) BLANFORD and married Lola Fern EVERITT in Clark County, Indiana in 1922. They had a daughter, Margaret L. born in Jefferson County, Kentucky in 1923 and the family resided in Tipton County, Indiana in 1928 when Lola's father died. The are believed to have had several more children and Lola may have died of cancer in the 1930s. I am working on the descendants of the EVERITT family that Lola is a part of and would be interested in adding her descendants to the family tree. Any help is appreciated.

Ginger, please contact me at:

Stychwych@home.com

I think we have a lot of family in common if Hean (Theron) and Della mean something in your family. I may be your "newest" family member and I've been looking for your family for a long time.

Re: Martha Blanford Prince George, MD 1686

Dear Ms Tracy,
I have Martha as the second daughter of Thomas ( referred to as the immigrant) Blanford. I also show her as marrying Thomas Lamar in 1699. Her mother was Tabitha Wright Mills.
She was probably born just west of the Patuxant River in Prince George's (note spelling) County,Md.
Her nephew,Charles, changed the family name to Blandford (which agrees with the English spelling) and became Roman Catholic. After the Revolution much of the family went to Kentucky, and again changed the name to Blanford. Now, 220 years later, we have a small group living in Maryland, mostly in Charles County and Pringe George's County, and a large group in Kentucky, mostly in Union, Bullett, and other counties along the Ohio River.
We are not related to those Blandfords from Virginia and New England, at least not in this country.
Regards JRB

Green-Blanford

Interesting! My Grandfather was Norvin Barbee Blanford. He was named after an uncle, Norvel Green Barbee. I haven't proven it yet but it appears his mother was a Green. This was mostly in Hancock Co. He was born 1892 in Troy, Perry Co, IN but his father, Henry Warren was working in Hawesville. Not sure why they went across the river to have him but his mother is also buried there. If it apears there is any connection, I have information to share. Ginger

I was raised with Hean and Della as my grandparents. They were divorced and he died in Kellogg in 1941. She died in El Monte, CA in about 1956. Their daughter raised me as her child and her husband and her I went down there for her funeral. Right now all I can think is Grandpa Ake. Later I'll think of his name. I have lots of information on the Haley side. Ginger
