After completing his military service, Harvey joined the Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co. where he was employed for 33 years until the factory's closure in 1979. He was hired at that time by Therm-O-Disc and worked there until retiring in 1988.

Harvey was wed to Martha Bauer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mansfield, Ohio on March 5, 1949. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together and raised three sons, Bruce, Bradley and Brent.

An avid athlete, Harvey played baseball and semi-pro football after the war and, in later years, bowled and golfed in several leagues around Mansfield. He was a member of The American Legion, VFW and the Sons of Herman. Harvey enjoyed summer weekends and vacations at his cottage in Huron, Ohio, spending long hours fishing with friends and family from the breakwall pier at Nickle Plate Park.

In 1988, Martha and Harvey moved to the Crystal Lake Club in Avon Park, FL where they enjoyed their retirement years together with close friends and neighbors. Harvey was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Sebring, FL where his funeral was held on Monday, September 28, 2009. The service was officiated by the Pastor Ron DeGenero.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; sons, Brent Blank of Kingston, MA, Bruce and Terri (Lockman) Blank of Madison, GA, and Bradley and Susan (Gurski) Blank of Mansfield, Ohio; his sisters, Joyce Gleason of Butler, Ohio; Florence Smalley and Debbie Fancher of Mansfield; brothers, Orville Blank and Donnie Blank of Mansfield; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial reception for family and friends will be held on the upper floor at The Sons of Herman Club on Orange Street in Mansfield, Ohio on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Harvey's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 9365 US Highway 19 North, Suite B, Pinellas Park, FL 33782.
I am wondering if there is any relation for us, Do you know of other family members?

My great grandfather Christ BLANK married Martha SHORE here in the US but they immigrated from Germany in the early 1880's. His parents were Christ BLANK and Mary SCHOLL/SCHALL. I know nothing of the town of origin other than it was "close" to the Black Forest/ or Heidelberg.

Information is extremly sketchy. Martha died (can't find a record of that) in Pennsylvania around 1901/1902 shortly after the birth of my grandmother.

Would love to find a connection...
Linda

Not much on-line about this Blank. Below is what I've put together as a hypothesis of this gentleman's descendants. It is incomplete. I use [-?-] to denote an unknown maiden name. So if I have a widow with an unknown maiden name marrying as a widow, she goes in as Mary [-?-] Smith. If I later find her maiden name, she becomes Mary [Jones] Smith, since she married as Mary Smith. Included in the descent chart, I've included supporting evidence in notes. This family is not in my direct line, but in my brother in law's.
EdrieAnne

Descendants of William Blank

Generation No. 1

1.
Bob,

I'm not sure this is really the same man. The 1930 census shows him living with his family in Jersey City on May 6th, 1930; the death certificate is dated May 3rd, isn't it?

I never thought of checking Civil War lists for information; he'd have been awfully young to fight in a war that ended in 1865, wouldn't he?

I'd love to see any information you may have. My name is Mary Ellen and my e-mail address is mek95255@hotmail.com.

Bob,
My late mother, Elizabeth Kennedy, is the granddaughter of a George A. Blank of Jersey City. Several of my mother's relatives, her father (George's son-in-law who was married to Caroline Blank), her sister, and her niece are all buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington; I think I would have known if her grandfather was also buried there.
Was your George A. Blank born about 1848 in Prussia and married to an Elizabeth A?
Bob,

I just read the obits you sent and it is the same GAB. His address in the 1930 census was 14 Belmont Ave. Why he died three days before he appeared in the census will have to remain a mystery, I guess.

I will have to investigate his interment. I'm practically sure he's not in N. Arlington. I can't imagine why they would have buried him in NY unless his parents were buried there. What can you tell me about research and cemeteries? I'm pretty new at this genealogy stuff.

Mary Ellen

Blanks in Fond du Lac County, WI

I am looking for information on Caroline Weston and Henry Blank. They were married March 23, 1878, in Dodge County, but apparently lived most of their lives in Fond du Lac County. Children were Louis (b. ca. 1879), Nettie (b. 1880), Charles (b. 1890), and Henry (b. 1895). I am looking primarily for information on Caroline Weston Blank (my connection), and hope that if I can find one of her descendants they perhaps can help me in that regard. I also have some info to share on her family.

Hello,

I am attempting to research my grand parents who immigrated to the US from Rotterdam, Netherlands Aug. 8, 1951 (Walsrode, Germany before that). I have all records pertaining to the immigration but nothing but pictures from prior to. The pictures I have are from Walsrode and Hamburg Germany abt 1945-50 and were taken by my grandfather George Anton Blank, married to Elisabeth Kompass prior to their immigration. They had 2 daughters who were also born in Walsrode, Germany. Anyone with any clues to share? Thanks.

John

Mary Ellen,

Actually the best genealogical research is talking to the elders in your family. While they don't always get the facts straight I have found most of their info to be very good. Of course marriage, birth, and death certficates are also quite helpful. Military pension records from the Civil War sometimes have tons of info while others are sparse.

Cemeteries are a crap shoot. Many will ask for money to look things up for you, some will act like it's a real burden for them, but there are many who can't do enough for you.

Bob

Mary Ellen,

No, not at all.

In an ideal world all cemeteries would be like Green-Wood in Brooklyn, NY. They have all their interments on-line.

There are a few cemeteries that have their records on computer, but not on-line. Most of them still use the card system. I am not sure what Holy Cross uses, but I know that they will answer your questions.

Bob

Mary Ellen,

The obits are on their way.

According to the obits GAB was born circa 1847 and would have been able to serve in the CW (my GGF joined at the age of 16 in 1861). Many men enlisted in 1865 so he could have lied about his age and joined earlier (the minimum age was supposed to be 18) or waited until then to sign up. He may have been in a militia regiment that never left the State, but he is still considered a CW veteran.

There were many men with his name who served so pinning him down won't be easy. Right now I'd just like to know where he is actually buried.

Bob
