I have been researching the Blasier Family in New York. I have been trying to connect Abraham Blasier with Lawrence Blasier b. Oct 7, 1766 in Manheim. Abraham was born about 1814. Evidently Lawrence was the son of a Lawrence Blasius. It appears that the spelling changed between 1766 and 1829.
I am sure that by now you have had many contacts with the decendent Blasiers of New York. If you find any record sources newly discovered please let me know

Hi, Tom--

I, too, have been researching the Blasier/Blasius link, although not to the extent you seem to have found. I do know that in that time period, spellings (even names) were not standardized, so there's a lot of variation. This was at least true in the U.S. and England, although I don't know if it's the case in other countries. I think there's a possibility that somebody either misspelled the Blasius name, or after immigrating to the United States, they tried to Anglicize the name. I'd be interested to hear more on what you've found about the family.

Best regards,
Rachel

I can tell you about my side of the family up to that point, but I don't know anything further back. Have you had any luck? If so, I'd love to know about it.

Best,
Rachel

I've also got an Heinrich Blasius of Prussia. Mine married Pauline Petrich (b. about 1847) which would match the year of your Heinrich. I found only that they married pre-Feb 1867, but the son of theirs, Julius (b. 26 Jan. 1862), is my ggg-grandfather. I wonder if perhaps this is the same Heinrich, given that he'd been widowed and remarried. (I do not have dates of their deaths.)

Doubtful link betw. Blasius and Blasier Families

Hello Emmett (and others),
Do you have information on his parents' origin(s)?

I think it is unlikely that the families Blasius and Blasier are related, although I could be wrong about this, since I'm speaking only from my knowledge of the Blasius from (today's) Igel, Kreis Trier-Land, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland (Germany, Rheinland Palatinate, county of Trier-Area).

In the Igel Kirchenbuch of St. Dionysius, the Blasius family is recorded with that spelling --and perhaps with the spelling of Bleßes-- since its inception, around 1706. The first entry with a Blasius (that is legible enough for me in the microfilms) comes in 1722 or 1713 (births of Anna Barbara and Maria Barbara, respectively). The family also had a contemporary presence in nearby Liersberg, with the same spellings.

The birth of your Lawrence Blasier on 7 October 1766 in Manheim NY implies to me that his family came from some region other than the Mosel valley in Rheinland-Pfalz, as most emigration from there occurred in the period 1850-1880, probably tied most closely to restrictive laws imposed by the Prussian government and somewhat with periods of poor crop yields. Also most families of the Trier & Mosel region were Roman Catholic. Is that also true for your family of interest?

BUT what catches my interest is your present location of Milwaukee WI. Three Blasius siblings immigrated to the U.S. between 1863 (or before) and 1867, and settled in Chicago and Wilmette. Of these, at least one family still lives near there, in Evanston. Knowing that Milwaukee is not far from there, and also knowing that some probably unrelated Blasius descendants live near there, I wanted to send my greetings to you and encourage you to contact me directly.

with best regards,
Tom Kohn
tgkohn_at_aol_dot_com
Blasius in Chicago, before 1867 and after

I've been researching a sentence in a family history, "They went to Chicago where Great grandmother [Katherine Blasius-Reinert] had two brothers, one was in the tailoring business."

I know one of these brothers was Nicholas Blasius, who lived in Winnetka (about 8 mi north of Chicago) from 1863 to his death in . I have been in touch with some of his descendants, one of whom still lives in the Chicago area.

I believe the other brother, John (Johann), lived in the central Chicago area from about 1863 to 1879/80. His presence is documented (faintly) in City Directories. However, the trail is lost around 1880. More information would be appreciated.

I have also found evidence to support the presence of a sister, Anna Katherine Blasius-Schmitz-Simon, in Winnetka for a few years around 1870. I would appreciate more information.

Please contact me directly at tgkohn_at_aol_dot_com.
I recently contacted living descendants of Nicholas BLASIUS, who immigrated to New Trier township in Cook county Illinois in 1863, having emigrated from Igel, Kreis Trier-Land (modern name), Rheinland-Pfalz (modern name), Germany.

In 1864 he married Minne HORN from Mecklenburg (modern Kreis Nordwestmecklenburg, Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany), which is at the extreme north of Germany. They had four children (Nicholas, b 1865; Johann, b. 1866, d. 18958; Apollonia, b. 1867; and Peter, b. 1869).

At this point, only the child John has further information: he married Emma Ryerson around 1900, and they had four children. He died in 1958 in the Wilmette/Winnetka area.
Where was your ggf from? Where did he settle? When did he immigrate (I assume to the USA)?

I am researching a Nicholas who emigrated in 1863 from Igel, near Trier in what is today Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. He settled in the Chicago area, New Trier township of Cook county Illinois. He has a descendant who still lives in that area, but most others have moved to various locations. I have contact information to them.

This Nicholas had at least one brother who lived in Chicago at least from 1884 through 1872 : John, a tailor. I hope to find his descendants and more information about him. Nicholas also had at least one sister who visited Chicago in 1867, on her way to settle in Caledonia twp, Houston county MN. Her name was Katherine Blasius-Reinert, and she had a husband John Reinert and five children who emigrated together as a family. In 1871 she and the children resettled to Bloom twp, Osborne county KS, in the area of Tipton, Mitchell county KS.

Another Nicholas emigrated sometime later from another German town near Trier, and he settled in the Chicago area for a time. (I am not researching him, but found some information that proved he was not "my guy.") I have contact information to his descendants also.

Please get in touch by rootsweb or directly : tgkohn_at_aol_dot_com.

Peter Blasius (b. 1830 Deutschland, R-P, Kr Trier-Land, Igel)

Hello Patti,

I've come to believe that my GGM's brother Peter Blasius may have immigrated to the Chicago area, perhaps between 1853 and 1863. He was born Peter Blasius (born 22 August 1830) or Peter Johann Blasius (born 3 February 1833). I believe he worked as a tailor in Chicago.

Why I believe the time frame given: he likely sponsored a nephew's baptism in 1853 (a Peter Reinert), and he was likely referred to --but not by name-- when a widowed sister (Anna Catherine Blasius-Schmitz) applied for emigration in 1863.

Do you have any information that fits with this? Chicago is key!

Thomas Kohn
tgkohn_at_aol_dot_com

Blasius - Halle and Berlin

I am searching for descendents of Ernst Blasius (possibly born in Berlin) and his wife Clara. They made their home in Halle, Germany (then Prussia) and had three children:

Anna Sophie Elizabeth born 2 March 1841 in Halle
Richard born in 1848
Heinrich (date of birth unknown but he was the third child so it was after 1848)

Anna Sophie Elizabeth married John Samuel Dawes on 1 October 1859 at Liebfrauen Church in Halle. She and her husband eventually made their home in Surbiton, England and I have details of their descendents.

Of Richard I have no further information other than that he died on 23 July 1863 in Lugano.

Heinrich married Helene Koehne in Berlin on 29 March 1873 and they produced one daughter and three sons:

Else born 12 January 1874
Ernst Heinrich W(ilheim?) born 22 December 1874
Willy Heinrich Carl born 10 September 1878
Heinrich Paul Richard born 9 August 1883

I would be most interested to hear from anybody that can fill in the gaps or otherwise add to the above.
Both, Peter Reinert, my GGF was born in Germany in 1853, his mother was Katherine (Blasius) Reinert, b. 1821, m.1848, d. 1891 in Tipton KS. Her brother, father b.1789, d. 1846, and grandfather b. 1757, d. 1826 were all named Peter Blasius. I believe that the Blasius's remained in Trier GM, where Johann and Katherine Reinert, with kids Susanna, Nick, Peter, Gertrude & Maria all came from in 1867, to Caledonia MN, 3 yrs. later Johann died and the family homesteaded with a bunch of others (originally from Trier) from Minn. to Tipton KS area.
Are you kin? The other name on the list was Tom Kohn. He is from Susanna (Reinert) Kohn line. He has helped me immensely, get in touch with him. Good luck. Nick

Michael Blasius Marianna Schuch

I have a Michael Blasius m. Marianna Schuch abt 1908 probably in Cincinnatti, OH. I've found them later in 1910 on the Lexington KY census. Michael was born about 1874 in Gadorf(sp?), Hungary came to the US abt 1905. In 1919, Michael and Marianna moved to Alberta, Canada and eventually had 10 children.

I'm looking for any information on Michael's birth, imigration or marriage. Any cousins out there?? Please contact me. I have some pictures of the couple on my website at:
http://members.aol.com/wendella/

Heinrich Blasius

Kris: Sorry, no match for your Heinrich/Pauline Blasius in my database. I checked the LDS site on-line: www.familysearch.org they are in the IGI.
Heinrich Blasius m abt Feb 1867 Pauline Petrich in Witkowo, Posen, Preussen. Than I did a place search to see what films were available. The church has filmed both Evangelical Catholic records for that area; which by the way is now Witkowo, Poznan, Poland. LDS has filmed the Catholic parish registers containing bapt., marriage, death from 1604-1959. The filming also includes Civil Transcripts. You should be able to find your family in these church records if they were Catholic. The Evangelical records filmed are not for as many years; but do include 1867, so at least the marriage would be listed possibly the first child or two if they remained in the area after marriage. Let me know if I can be of further help. (Note: my original posting to the board; I mistakenly signed as Blasius)

Just Wondering

Hi- I was wondering if you had run into a Heinrich Blasius from Brahmberg Prussia in any of your lines? My sister in law is looking for a Heinrich Blasius married to pauline petrich who was understood to be a Barron in Bramberg? prussia. Their son Julius immigrated to the states in 1882 out of the port of New York. This could be a long shot, but we may have hit a wall right now so I thought I would ask you
Thanks Much
Kris Wathke
