It is possible that John Blatz of Glens Falls, N.Y., may have been related to your father, but if so, it was probably a distant relationship. The only son of John Blatz was Frank Joseph Blatz, who lived at Bloomsbury, Penn., in 1930, with his wife Melba, and they did not have any children. I’m sorry that I can’t be more helpful, but I am not descended from John Blatz, only his first wife by her previous marriage, and therefore, have not studied the Blatz family in any detail. I provided all the information I have about John Blatz in the message I posted. Two websites that you might want to check, if you haven’t already, are
http://fultonhistory.com/
http://germangenealogygroup.com/
I hope this helps.

hello Cornelia,
My name is Glen Blatz, I live in Alberta Canada, and I too am a descendant of Andreas Blatz. We have quite a bit of the family tree traced back to Michael, but are still missing pieces. Would you be willing to share information, on your descendants with me? If so please reply to this email, or email me at gmblatz@telusplanet.net.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Glen
I would be very interested in having you join our DNA project. All you need to do is go to http://www.smgf.org/pages/request_kit.jspx
and fill in the form. The only cost to you is the postage to send the sample back.
I would also need two bits of information from you:
1) your name
2) how you connect to Andreas Blatz through your father's
side

If you want, you can reply to me via the email posted for me at the project website www.mennonitedna.com

Also, if you are in contact with the German Blatz it would be very interesting if he would send in a sample and we could determine if the two of you have a genetaic link.

Glenn.

 Hello Everyone,

I am the administrator of the Low-german Mennonite DNA project. We will soon have a descendent of Daniel Blatz (b. 1789) participating in this project and I'm looking for a descendent of his brother Andreas (b. 1796). Since we are testing Y-DNA we need a male Blatz descendent. The idea is to use DNA analysis to show a connection between the descendents of these two men and to connect to other Blatz familes (Mennonite and non-Mennonite). Participation is free. See the website at www.mennonitedna.com .

Glenn Penner.

Hi Jeffery:

I helped Cornelia a bit with her Blatz ancestors churh records in Russia. The original Blatz family was Lutheran that went to Russia. Michael Blatz had two son Daniel and Andreas. One son stayed Lutheran and the other went Mennonite. Your line Jeffery I would think is Mennonite.

Have you gotten your Daniel's death registration from the Manitoba Vital Statistics. It should show his parents names and where in Russia they came from. As well as Daniel's birthplace. If you email me directly I'll give you a few sites to check out.

My email address is brian.schatz@sasktel.net

Take care.

Brian

Hi Brian,
Your #87 Johannes Kneissler b.17.8.1790 Untermiesbach Wuerttemberg. Profession smith. Via Rebolda near St.Petersburg to Kronsfeld. mar.Rebolda 1811 Rosina Zeiter. I did not have the death date.
Johann Martin Kneissler is new for me I could not fit him into the family. But I think I only have about 40% of the Ukraine Kneisslers. there are a lot of names that do not fit until now.
Anyhow, this is not my branch. I am looking for Kneissler or any similiar name in Czechoslowakia from around 1750 and I think that the branch of Kneissler or Gneisler in Posen are somehow related. But nothing proof until now.
Wish you a nice summer.
Leodegar

Hi Everyone:

I did a bit more checking I found Johann Micheal Blatz and wife and 3 children at Krotoschin, Prussia in 1802. Is this your Michael Blatz I think it is. But what happened to the other child. I wonder if maybe this other was how the Blatz's show up in the Lutheran records. Maybe another son went to Russia later to the places I mentioned.

One won't know without researching I guess for sure.

Brian

Hi Charlene:

Eigengrund was not founded until 1866 and it was a Lutheran village in Russia. So your Helena Penner was probably born within the Chortitza Mennonite Colonies. But if Daniel Blatz and Helena Penner after Eigengrund was founded in 1866 their records could be in the Lutheran records!!! Now I see they were Catholic before going to Russia but they are showing up in the Lutheran records in Russia. Next week I'll do some research.

It is even very possible that Helena Penner was born within the Molotschna Mennonite Colonies that was located on the eastside of the River Molotschna and on the west side was the Prischib Colonies most of which were Lutheran.

It will depend when the Blatz's moved to the Josephstahl Parish area where Eigengrund was located in. If still in the Prischib Colonies before 1866 the records should be in the two Lutheran Parish's that cover the Prischib Colonies. And if they left before then a search within the Josephstahl Parish is needed also.

I'll check the years from say 1868-as far down as I can get but I will do 1851 and 1852 just in case your Daniel's birth record is shown in the Lutheran records.

When did Daniel marry Helena??? I could try to locate a marriage record.

I have determined in Russia that they are in the Lutheran records. But in your case Daniel's info may all be in the Mennonite records. But I kind of doubt this myself. Daniel and Helena's childrens records maybe in just the Mennonite records. It is hard to really say as to what is available in the Lutheran records when another religion gets involved. Normally if a mixed marriage then the records are shown more likely in both.

I'll do a search this next week and see what I can find. If I find what I am thinking you will be able to actually get some records. I am not sure what the Mennonites have available.

Brian

Blatz records in Russia

Hi Everyone:

I checked my copied records I have some Blatz records copied in with my records I copied. Here is the ones I have they may help some of you.

#15 Jakob Blatz b. 13 Mar bap 15 Mar 1876 at Fuerstenfeld.
#16 Justina Blatz b. 13 Mar bap 15 Mar 1876 at Fuerstenfeld.
Parents were Carl Blatz and Dorothea Kneissler.
***Note the witnesses or godparents are listed but none are related. Fuersdtenfeld was in the Kronau Colonies and Kneissler surname I have worked on. I have 6 more births to this couple from 1872-1885 wrote down.

#114 Christine Blatz d. 27 Oct bur 29 Oct 1857 at Hoffenthal.
Born Hoffenthal. Age 1 month old.
Georg Blatz father.

Fuerstenfeld was founded 1869/70 in the Kronau Colonies. Hoffenthal was founded in 1804 in the Prischib Colonies.

I looked at about 2,000 church records to find these records!!! I figured I would only have a few as I have not worked on the Blatz name. But it will give you all an idea where they were.

There are Blatz's in the EWZ records (Emigration from Russia to Germany during WWII) that I also get. This is the ones who left Russia going to Germany during WWII. There is another source also on some villages in 1942 a census that is possible but depends where are there are only a few of these available.

Brian

hallo Glen,
I just posted to Brian, that his informations about Michael Blatz ist right.
Michael Platz went 1804 from southern germany to south russia with his wife Elisabeth Metler and two sons: Daniel and Andreas. The surname changed between Platz and Blatz, may be because of the way of speaking in southern germany. I am a descendent of this Andreas and his son Andreas. Andreas I. and his brother Daniel were children when the family emigrated. Our family tradition says that Michael father was Thomas. I want to look for church records in germany for the birth date of Michael and the marriage with Elisabeth Metler, but I have no good idea where to look. It must be near Heidelberg, but if You are in Russia, "near Heidelberg" is a very big region.
And I don't know exactly w h i c h Daniel went to Canada and is the ancestor of the canadian Blatz: a son of "my" Andreas or a son of his brother Daniel. Both alternatives are possible. The church records of Brian could help....
Greetings from germany
Cornelia
hallo to all relatives and researchers on Blatz family and specially to Brian, Charlene, Barb,
the information from the Stumpp-Book is right. Michael Platz went from southern germany to south russia with his wife Elisabeth and two sons: Daniel and Andreas. The surname changed between Platz and Blatz, may be because of the way of speaking in southern germany. I am a descendent of this Andreas and his son Andreas. Andreas and his brother Daniel were children when the family emigrated. Our family tradition says, that Michael father was Thomas. I want to look for church record in germany for the birth dates of Michael, the marriage with Elisabeth Metler and the birth dates of Daniel and Andreas, but I have no good idea where to look. It must be near Heidelberg, but if You are in Russia, "near Heidelberg" is a very big region. The immigrants in Alt-Nassau where they settled first came mostly from Hessen-Nassau, specially Usingen. I will try to find the dates by travelling to the parishs and archives where the records are.
Dear Brian, where do You have found the church records of south russia? I miss some dates from the russian time of my family. Propably You can help me.
And I don't know w h i c h Daniel went to Canada and became the ancestor of You: a son of "my" Andreas or a son of his brother Daniel.
Hi Leodegar:

Here are 2 Kneissler death records both are from Kronsfeld, Russia but both were born in Wü.

#87 Johannes Kneissler d. 21 July bur 23 July 1882 at Kronsfeld.
Born _ _uternnassbech/Wü. Age 91y 11m 11d old.

#1 Johann Martin Kneissler d. 19 Nov bur 21 Nov 1860 at Kronsfeld.
Born Darmstadt/Wü. Age 65y 2m 11d old.

I do not know if they are from your bunch or not. Maybe you can determine that!!!

In Russia they are in the Lutheran Parish records but in the Wü they could be almost any religion. As many changed once they got to Russia.

I will also more likely have other Kneissler death records as I wrote them all down. But what I have just sent are the ones who died at Kronsfeld.

Hope you find a link and I hope this may help your research.

Happy New Year

Brian

Hello, there is a Christine Kneissler married to a ... Blatz around 1870/1880 in Kurdjumowka. My information on this family begins with Jörg Kneußler born 1613, +Wittendorf (Wurttemberg) 1687. Until now, I do not have a connection to my family which begins 1852 in Prague and of which I know about 8 people living in Austria now.
Wish you a nice new year.
Leodegar.

Hi Charlene:

I found your Michael Blatz and family in Karl Stumpp's book The Emigration to Russia from Germany in the Years 1763-1862.

3rd section on page 395 Platz, Michael in 1804 at Nassau/Taurien RL 44.

Now to the Revisionliste for Alt Nassau/Taurien in 1811.

RL #44 Platz, Michael age 55 and wife Elisabeth age 50 and children Daniel age 22 and Andreas age 15.

I have seen the B shown as a P on a few other surnames as well.

I have done all the Parish records for Alt Nassau from 1833-1885. It was a Lutheran community but that does not mean Catholic's did not live there. There is a chance that the Blatz/Platz records are in the Lutheran Parish records.

Alt Nassau was one of the Prischib Colonies in the Taurien Area of Russia. The Prischib Colonies were located on the west side of the Molotschna River right across from them on the east side of the Molotschna River was the Molotschna Mennonite Colonies.

I could do a quick search for you if you like. I am presently going to be starting 1857 records as I am working on 3 more villages. I have from 1833-18856 done and I am working up to 1885. So if you have a name and birthdate say 1857-say 1867 I could look fast. I could also double back and look for some.

I have many records here copied in fact I have two Parish's for 1833 copied I'll check my copies maybe I have something.

Brian

Blatz/Kneissler

Hi Russian Blatz researchers:

I just checked I have a Karl Blatz married to Pauline Dorothea Kneissler. The first child born to then was at Fuerstenfeld/Kronau Colonies/Russia in 1872 the second child was born at Hoffental/Taurien/Russia in 1874. The rest born in Fuerstenfeld.

The second one born was a Daniel Blatz in 1874. Hoffental was a Catholic village in the Prischib colonies. Which is not the one mentioned on this list but maybe it will help one of you somehow.

The Parish records are Lutheran which have been filmed by the LDS in Russia from 1833-1885. Now to Eigengrund and the possibility of finding some Blatz records there. Well this Lutheran Parish has many Mennonite records in it. And if a mixed marriage with a Lutheran and Catholic the records should be in the Lutheran records also.

Take care.

Brian

I am seeking information about John Blatz who married Herminia Dorl, my great-great-grandmother. I would especially like to know when and where he married Herminia Dorl. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

John Alois Blatz, son of Franz Joseph Blatz, was born 26 January 1854 in Germany. He died 10 January 1928 at Glens Falls, New York, and was buried in the Bay Street Cemetery, Glens Falls, New York.

John married (1) Herminia (Dorl) Mayer about 1882. She died 1896, and was buried in the Bay Street Cemetery, Glens Falls, New York.

They had the following children:
1) Mildred Blatz, born May 1883 in New York State, married Thomas Stewart about 1907. Thomas was born in June 1881 in Ireland. Mildred and Thomas had at least two children.
2) Elisa Blatz was born 1 November 1885 in New York State. She died 25 April 1969, and was buried in the Bay Street Cemetery, Glens Falls, New York. Elisa did not marry.
3) Frank Joseph Blatz was born 1 August 1889 at Glens Falls, New York.
Yes the Daniel/Agatha Blatz were my great grandparents, his father Daniel born 1817 died 1891 wife Helen Penner b.1825 d 1866 immigrated to canada 1875...his father Daniel ( 1st) along with his grandfather Michael and uncle Andrew fled from their castle ( where the Niher & Rhein rivers join ) Germany, during the Napoleonic Wars , and settled in the Molochev area in Russia where Daniel ( the 1st ) was baptised into the Mennonite church married a mennonite girl and had four sons Daniel ( the 2nd this is the one b. 1817 d. 1891 imm. to can 1875 ..mentioned above), Abraham, Peter and Andrew. Apparently as the story goes Michael Blatz was a son of a King (presumably the last King of Holland. This is all that I have.
Glen Dalke

I am tracking a Blatz line and am getting twisted up with some of the "Daniels." I have Daniel Blatz (b 24 Dec 1851, died 12 May 1907) married to Agatha Dueck (b 5 Aug 1853, d 10 march 1916). Are these the ones you are talking about? And if so, do you have info on Daniel's parents and grandparents?

My wife Betty's mother was a Blatz. Betty's cousins are Peter Blatz who is married to Sara Hamm. Peter Blatz's father and mother was Johan and Helena (Froese) Blatz. Peter drives a mini bus full of tourists (Mennonites) to Mexico 10 or 11 times a year. He lives in Morden, Manitoba. His sister, Helen, married A.J. Friesen who use to live between Winkler and Morden. Betty's sister and brother-in-law, Frank and Anna (Rempel) Loewen who live either in or near Winkler have Blatz books for sale. They sell for $30.00 so you can look at them and save shipping charges. Their phone number is 204-325-8637. Let me know how you made out. Betty's mother was born in Manitoba in 1916 and immigrated to Mexico as a child and moved back to Canada in 1957.

descendants of Gerhard G. Blatz and Anna Braun

I am in search of any descendants of Gerhard Blatz, born 23 Sept 1877 and Anna Braun, born 28 Jan/Feb 1880. Gerhard and Anna had one child that i know of, Gerhard, born 22 July 1899. Anna's parents were Peter Braun and Anna Ginter. I am looking for anyone who may have any information concerning Anna's stepmother and stepbrother, Anna Doerksen and Peter Peters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Susan
