This thread seems to be of an adjacent county from where my Julia MILLS seems to have been wife of John L BLESSING of Montgomery County Ohio.
She dau of Richard MILLS B: ca 1771 and probably Martha BARHAM. I once had their information, but since my computer has lost 2 hard drives, and all other info I had on them.
On trying to find who were parents of John and for sure what any other information I can glean back on Julia.

DNA testing has been done on a descendant line of Richard and Martha. www.familytreedna.com under MILLS.

I did see from Ross County Ohio marriages information on www.ancestry.com,searching for other MILLS - BLESSING marriages, that of Arthur MILLS and Clara BLESSING. but gives nothing else on them, married on 12 4 1889 for Marion Co IN.

Do any of these folks ring any bells today,
Thank you for sharing your information.

Patricia
cw
Sorry, I "mispoke" in my previous message. This Elizabeth's middle initial is "T", not "J". Of course, you were looking for either.

I have Elizabeth's parents' and siblings' names, but not much else. She had several older sisters and several aunts. Her family lived in Smythe, Russell, and Washington County, VA, at various times.

I don't have any info on who Elizabeth may have married or if she had children.
Well, this is very exciting! I have been trying for some time to find an Elizabeth with this middle initial. The family from whom we got the quilt was from the WAshington, DC area. So, I think VA sounds about right!

Do you have any information on this Elizabeth? The birthdate would be about right, too, for the quilter. There are two "hands" shown on the quilt--two quilters--one is quite experienced and her work (it was probably a woman although there were male quilters, especially after the Civil War) is delicate and beautiful. The other woman's hand is a little rougher but still very charming. In fact, it is very likely that this quilt was made for a trusseau, so your Elizabether would have been about the right age.

I can't wait to hear what you know of Elizabeth, and possibly her mother or aunt(s) who may have been the other hands involved in making this quilt. Or maybe an older sister? There is only one signature on the quilt.

Thank you so much! This is my first time to do any kind of genealogical research (and I'm an historian) and I'm finding it quite rewarding already!

Kelly

Absolem vs. Abraham BLESSING - Greene Co, Ohio

Concerning John Blessing & Clarissa Skeen Blessing's offspring: I have their son Isaac's obituary from 9/05/1885, in IL, where it is mentioned that "he was the last of the 7 Blessing brothers - 'all suffering the same terribly crippling affliction' [arthritis?] - and one Blessing sister".

I feel the number of children 'is secure' at eight. And, there's no doubt that the oldest son was Reuben, b. VA, 17 Mar 1800. I've found 2 sources that name THE NEXT SON as 'Abraham', and 1 source that says he was actually 'Absolem' and that his name has gotten cross-confused with his first cousin Abraham, who was one of Lewis Blessing's offspring: Jacob, Abraham, John, Mary (m. Thornton Lucas, Greene Co), and Elizabeth Blessing -- all b. VA and mentioned in Lewis' Will.

Does anyone have a positive document, Bible, Birth, Marriage, or Death Certificate, or an Enlistment, Will, or Deed Paper that identifies ABSOLEM as a SON OF . . . .

I don't have an investment, either way -- would like to know the truth.

I am researching the Blessings of Spokane, Wa. My Father was Walter J. Blessing, son of Victoria and Isadore Blessing. One of his sisters, Nora is your grandmother. I knew Aunt Nora quite well. Am interested in exchanging famiy information. Do you have the book Aunt Tootsie compiled with the help of Jeannie and Carol Clem? Tells a lot about the Blessing family.

I've been going through some old newspaper clippings my grandfather kept and have come across a picture of the East Trent School in Trent (near Spokane), Washington back in 1892. There are many Blessing children -- Ida, Theresa, Jake, Mike, Tony, Joe, and Mary. I'd be happy to photocopy it for anyone interested.

I have recenty been told that I might match up with the Solomon Blessing, wondering if anyone has his children listed. I have a George Blessing who was married to a Mary Ellen Carter, that may very well be his son, in Macon Co MO. This is my ggggrandfather. I haven't done any research into this as of yet, but would love to know if anyone has the names of the Solomon Blessings children.
Thank you,
Valarie

Re: Absolem vs. Abraham Blessing, Greene Co, OH

I don't know if this is the same Abraham Blessing that you seek but I thought I would post because the one I am speaking of was born May 26, 1855 in Spring Valley, Ohio. Spring Valley, Ohio is in Greene County, Ohio.

Abraham S. Blessing born May 26, 1855 died in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana Oct. 23, 1912 according to his obit
which is at www.usgenweb.com Indiana Fulton County site.

I found him while searching for Mary Talley. She married him and had Lloyd S. Blessing, Ada M. Blessing, Mabel E. Blessing and Gale/Gail Blessing. Another son preceeded Abraham in death. Mary Talley later was married to Reuban Squires and had son's Arthur/Squire and Glen Squire and a son that died early. It appears that Mary Talley Blessing had a son Maxwell Talley before she married Abraham Blessing.

I would be interested in hearing from you as well as anyone interested in the above.

I have some information on Lloyd S. Blessing and Mabel Blessing and Gale Blessing I don't have much on Ada M. Blessing. I would like to learn more about each one.

Thank you for your quick answer. I found out that when my grand father arrived to Nicaragua he use to be named Patrick Higgins Blessing, because as far as I understand, in Ireland you first use the last name of the mother (Maria Higgins) and then the one of the father, who in this case was also Patrick Blessing. In America you first use the last name of the father, and that is the reason why my grandfather decided to be named Patrick Blessing.
In the next few months, my mother is going to go to Nicaragua and she will try to find documents at public offices related to my grandfather and his ancestors in Ireland.
Anyhow, I will love to get in touch with you. My e-mail is: cblessing@bancomercantil.com

Regards,
C. A.
My great grandmother had a brother named Patrick Blessing who was born sometime in the 1870s. He was still in County Leitrim, Ireland at the time of the 1901 census but we have no idea what happened to him after 1901. Do you know the names of your grandfather's parents? The father of the Patrick Blessing in my line was named Hugh.

Re: Charles BLESSING (b 1836) - Germany to Arkansas

Hello :)

I believe we are related. Charles & Caroline Blessing are my ggg-grandparents. I do have a little info on Charles but I am afraid it isn't much as he is one of my brick walls. Hopefully with your post and my posting it will trigger some info from somewhere.

What I have on Charles is:

B Dec 1836 in Germany
D 1 Jun 1915 in Carlisle, Lonoke, Arkansas

He arrived in the US in 1861. I am unsure if he was recruited to join the US Army in exchange for citizenship or if he just decided to join out of patriotism for his new country. But, for whatever reason he joined the US Army and fought in the Civil War shortly after his arrival. He, in fact, fought in at least 2 regiments possible more. The 28th Ohio Infantry, Company K and the 9th New York Cavalry, Company L are the ones that I am sure about. After the war he moved to Arkansas and worked for the Memphis and Little Rock Railway for a bit. He eventually became part of the movement of farmers who introduced rice farming to Arkansas.

Most of the information I have on Caroline is what you have provided and I appreciate that very much! I do know stories about her relayed to me from my great-grandmother before she passed in 1991. My great-grandmother lived with Caroline as a child. She recalls how Caroline was a very hard woman. She had forced several of her sons to divorce for not approving of their wives (William, Charles and Samuel that I know about). She made my gg-grandfather, William Fred Blessing divorce my gg-grandmother, Martha Francis Jones, because she was Indian. My great-grandma recalls basically being a live-in servant, for Caroline, while she lived with her. Which is a bit sad as Caroline was my great-grandma namesake and by extension my mother's namesake. Unfortunately I was only 19 when my great-grandmother passed and was not as interested in family history as I am now or I would have asked many more questions.

I would love to excahnge any more tid bits of info if you have it. I'd be glad to answer any questions you may have. I just wish there was more to the family history to share. I would love to find Charles' parents to extend my tree.

Feel free to contact me any time!

~Mel

Elizabeth S BLESSING - 1895-1948, Lancaster, PA

I'm looking for a pedigree for Elizabeth. She was the second wife of my g-grandfather, Roy Keller. According to her obituary, she lived in Manheim (Boro or Twp?) till 1944 (which was probably when they married), when she moved to Lititz and lived there till her death. It says she had the following siblings: Harry, Dora, Lillian, George, Samuel, Mary, George, Bertha, & Lloyd. Do these names match with anyone's records? I just recently found a marriage date for a Samuel G Blessing to an Alice Shenk in Lancaster, on 30 Jul 1889. Does anyone know if these are her/their parents? I'm on a mission to learn more about her and her heritage. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
