Seeking information on the Blewett family of Fond du Lac Wisconsin. Ellen Blewett married Mark Crain in 1897 and they lived around Eldorado WI. Ellen may have had a sister and brother living in Sioux City Iowa. Some websites have spelled the name Blewitt. I have an obituary for Ellen's mother, Mary Blewett.

Re: William Blewett, The First Family Genealogy

James Love Blewett was married, I believe the third time, to Mary Elizabeth Whaley Andrews. The marriage record lists her as Mary Elizabeth Andrews and she had 3 sons at the time of her marriage to Blewett by the surname of Andrews (James Rollen Andrews, George Alan Andrews and John Harris Andrews). I am a descendant of John Harris Andrews. We don't know Mr. Andrews' first name, only that he was supposedly killed in the civil war. After Mary Elizabeth married James Blewett she had 5 more children and then Blewett died (he was approx. 30 years older than Mary Elizabeth). I have information on the Whaley's, but am at a dead end on Mary Elizabeth's first marriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Kathie Sarchet

Blewett's in Anson Co., NC

Mary, have you identified any other families which moved with William BLEWETT from Pennsylvania to Anson Co., NC? A George MARTIN appears in several Anson Co. records along with William BLEWETT. I believe this George MARTIN is the father of my 4G grandfather, Zachariah, and his brother, Gabriel, who arrived in Spanish Louisiana in 1779. He is my stone wall and I'm hoping to learn more about him through his associations in Anson Co.

The first record of George MARTIN in Anson Co. is:

GRANT: North Carolina Land Patents; Patent Bk. 2, Pg. 170; No. 170; 26 Nov 1757.

George Martin 200 acres in Anson County on the N. E. side of Pee Dee river, joining both sides of Peters branch and the S. fork of Cartleeges creek.

And then there is this:

WITNESS: Anson Co., NC; Deed Bk 6, Pg. 34 & 35; 3 Oct 1758.

William Blewet & Edmund Cartledge of Anson Co., to John Husbands, for £10...land on E side Great Pee Dee...Wm. Blewets old tract...patent to Blewet 30 Sep 1748 & a patent to Blewet & Cartledge. William Blewet (Seal), E. Cartledge (Seal). Wit: John Long, *George Martin*.

In your posting you say William BLEWETT married Sarah Garten on 30 July 1751 in Old Swedes Church, Wilmington, DE. How does that square with the above deed which says the land was patented to him on 30 Sep 1748? Is it possible that he traveled back to Delaware to remarry after losing a wife in Anson Co.?

Can you add any details about William BLEWETT's movements prior to Anson Co.?

Hello,

Thank you for your message and hope that this finds you well.

I am researching the Blewett's of Lostwithiel. I am connected on my mothers side of the family. I saw that there was a William Blewett born in Lostwithiel in 1864 and couldn't find out who his parents were.

I was wondering who they were?...

If you have any information about them I would be delighted to know who they were.. My Blewett's were based in Lostwithiel running the local prison and Blacksmiths.

Thanks for any help that you might be able to give me..

Best regards, Malcolm

Hi Malcolm

I have just read your message posted in 2004. I realise this is some time since you posted this message, but I would like to introduce myself as Elizabeth Lamswood's great granddaughter. Blanche was my great aunt and William was my great grandmother's second husband (her first was lost at sea). I would love to exchange some information with you. Please get back to me when you pick up this reply. with kind regards

i just started with ancestry.com so don't know if you are still at this address. My father is John Henry Blewett of Reading, Pa. His father was Joseph Blewett(JR.) who I am sure is the great uncle mentioned in your post. My father had an Aunt Leah and Uncle Harvey. His cousin Dick and his wife Barbara lived in Ct.

Joseph Blewett, Sr. was born in Cornwall in 1852 and emigrated to PA about 1885. His father's name is William and I have traced them back to Cornwall, England in the mid-1850's. My grandfather, Joseph, Jr., was about one year old when he came here, and I think your granfather Harvey was the youngest and was born in Reading, PA.

JoAnne Blewett Foss
Re: Blewett's in NC

I am trying to find information about one of William's sons named Thomas Blewett of Anson County. All I know at this point is that he married a widow of Nicholas Stone, also of Anson County. She had four small children at the time and Thomas Blewett was appointed their guardian. I would like to know what her name was (the widow) and what happened to this family. I could not find a will or estate records for Thomas Blewett in the NC Archives. The four children's names were Benjamin, William, Rebekah, and Uriah Stone. I think Thomas (or his family) may have owned a mill called Blewett's Mill in Anson County. I believe that my Stone line is somehow connected to one of Nicholas Stone's children. Thanks for any help.
