In the process of looking for my Great Greatfather's parents I received a Birth Record that someone says is my Great Grandfather's, Thomas Clift. It is for a Thomas Clift born 14 Mar 1859 with parents listed as Joseph Clift and Mary (Blick) Clift. It is from Birmingham, County of Warwick, England. Their Address is 1 Court Price Street,Birmingham. Does anyone have any information on any of these names that would help me prove this is the birth record for my Great Grandfather.

Benjamin King of Petersburg, in Dinwiddie Co., VA died some time around 1815 and left money to a Polly Blick in his will. (Is it safe to assume that Polly was actually a Mary?) This gentleman was said to be a tobacco merchant. Also named were his sisters Martha Hawks and Sally King, half sister Rebecca Mays/Mayes, and Randolph White. Just curious to know if any of these names ring a bell.

In case it helps, Benjamin's wife was Elizabeth and his uncle was Julian King, a landowner who was probably also from that area, but who we know from deeds to be a large landowner living around Rocky Mount, NC. We are trying to discover information on John King Hawks, nephew of both men, and his wife Temperance (maiden name unknown), who is supposedly from NC. Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to supply.

My great grandfather John Sands and his brother, thomas Sands came to American in April 1905. They appeared to be going to stay with a Saml or Samuel Blick who was somehow a brother-in-law. I believe the Blick's lived in Philadelphia. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I am a direct descendant of Frederick Russell Burnham and Blanche Blick Burnham. Many of the Blicks & Burnhams are buried at Three Rivers, CA. Their correspondence is at Yale and Stanford, and some of it was published in 1993:

Bradford, Mary E; Richard H Bradford (1993). An American family on the African frontier: the Burnham family letters, 1893–1896. Niwot, Colorado: Roberts Rinehart. ISBN 1-879373-66-1

Here is some background:

* Frederick Russell Burnham (May 11, 1861 - September 1, 1947), best known for his service in the First Matabele War, Second Matabele War, the Second Boer War, and for teaching woodcraft (i.e., scoutcraft) to Robert Baden-Powell, becoming one of the inspirations to the founding of the Boy Scouts and recognized today as the father of the international scouting movement.
* Blanche Blick Burnham (February 23, 1862 - December 22, 1939), wife of Fred Burnham, lived in Africa during the First Matabele War and the Second Matabele War.
Roderick Deane Burnham (August 22, 1886 - July 1, 1976), son of Fred & Blanche Burnham, moved to Africa at age four and lived there from 1893-1897. Served in World War I and went on to lead a rich and adventurous life after finding oil at Dominguez Hills.
* John Charles Blick (September 11, 1875–1960), who fought and won a famous hand-to-hand duel with a Ndebele after the charge broke the impis on their last effort to take Bulawayo in the Second Matabele War.
* Judd Dunning Blick (March 17, 1873 - December 9, 1951), participated in the Barotseland expedition of 1895, during which he and his party nearly died of thirst, and fought in the Second Matabele War.
* Pearl "Pete" Ingram Mills (1871 - December 11, 1933), a Montana cowboy who was one of only three men to survive the Shangani Patrol (along with Burnham) during the First Matabele War. Also fought in the Second Matabele War. At the time of death, he had a son, Ray Ingram of Pasadena and two grandchildren.[4]
* Grace Blick Ingram (July 22, 1870 - May 22, 1951), wife of Pete Ingram and a member of the Blick clan.
Homer Ephraim Blick (January 22, 1865 - December 1947), fought in the Second Matabele War. Married Linnie Adell Nye (April 8, 1866 - June 1943), Fairview, Kansas, on October 17, 1886.
* James Shannon Blick or Blickensderfer (November 15, 1833 - October 14, 1916). Born in Blue Ridge, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph von Blickensderfer and Catherine von Neiswanger, married Phebe Elenor Dunning (November 18, 1840 - ?), on September 29, 1858 in Marion County, Indiana. Patriarch of the Blick family, a carpenter and painter by trade, fought in the Second Matabele War.

I do have a Hattie Ripple in my family tree but I do not have any info about her other than she married Ambler Marshall Blick (1892-1925). Ambler was a distant cousin and Hattie was not my grandmother. Wishing you success with your search.

Hi Fiona, I have the complete history of the Thomas Blick family of Nelson NZ with in NZ. It is some of the early England history I would like to learn more about. I think it starts with Robert amd Mary about 1700. Moving down the family line's, to Thomas and His sister and respective partners and children coming out to NZ 1842. I have no knowledge prior to that and I'm sure there is more to find out.

Robert James Blick was Charles Raymond Blick's only son. He was born on Oct. 21, 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland while Charles Raymond Blick was married to Clara Mae Blick, his first wife. They married on the eighth day of Feb. 1918 and divorced on the 28th day of September 1920. Robert J. Blick should be placed in your tree as a son of Charles Raymond Blick and Clara Mae Vansciver should be placed as the first wife. It seems like no one,doing research on the Blicks, knows agout this marriage and the fact that Charles Raymond Blick had another offspring. Future generations may need this information in tracing their roots. I hope this has cleared things up for you and perhaps others. Thanks for getting back to me. If I can be of any further help, please let me know. I don't know if there are any other living Blicks, but if so, I would be really interested in hearing from them. Thanks again.

I am also doing research on the Blicks of Virginia and D.C. My grandfather was Charles Raymond Blick, a policeman living in DC, my great grandfather was Gus W. Blick born about 1864 and I have found a link maybe my great great grandfather John Strachan Blick of Dinwiddie County. I have traced back to Joshua Blick born in 1777 but I am stuck in that place and I know there must be someone before 1777 and after. I believe there was a John Joshua Blick born Feb 14, 1849 in Dinwiddie but can not find anyone else. Charles Raymond Blick born in 1897 had one child, my father, Robert J. Blick born in 1919 by Clara Mae Blick. The ancestry records only show one marriage to Lulu M. and having three daughters.

According to my father, Ambler passed away a few years back. He was my fathers cousin and the son of Ambler Blick Sr. Definitely the same guy as he grew up on my great uncles farm in Clarksburg (Wallace Blick) since his father died when he was young.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Rosa Sharon Blick, 63, 2308 57th St., Muscatine, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at her home.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Swanson will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Florence Hetzler. Burial will be at Wapello Cemetery, Wapello.

Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Blick was born on Nov. 12, 1938, in Iowa City, the daughter of August and Geraldine Webb Otto. She married Owen Eugene Blick on Sept. 14, 1961, in Davenport.

She was a life resident of the Muscatine area.

She was a past member of the Women of the Moose. She collected angels and in the past loved to ride with her husband on their motorcycle touring the United States on their vacations while she collected cups, saucers and magnets from the states they visited.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Debra Blick of Grandview; a grandchild, Brent Lee Blick; three brothers, Junior A. Otto and his wife, Marjorie, of Muscatine, Robert L. Otto and his wife, Virginia, of Virginia and Rex L. Otto and his wife, Judy, of Mediapolis; four sisters, LaMaye Swailes and her husband, Orlando, of Muscatine, Maxine Bowman and her husband, John, of Lynn Center, Ill., Mary Beek of Colona, Ill. and Patricia Shope and her husband, David, of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Harlan Otto and John Otto.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday July 9, 2008, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial will be at the Overman Cemetery, Atalissa.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Blick was born April 23, 1947, the daughter of Eugene and Clara Dallege Eves in Tipton, Iowa. She was married to Ronald Joseph Blick on September 30, 1967, at the United Methodist Church in Tipton.

She was a graduate of Tipton High School in the class of 1965.

She had been employed at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and Sheller Globe in Iowa City for several years.

She was a member of the ABC’s and Atalissa Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafts, was a bride doll and angel collector.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Blick of Atalissa; three children, Joseph Blick and wife, Kandice, Kori Blick of Atalissa, and April Schrock and husband, Aaron, of Kalona; three grandchildren, Ashley and Courtney Blick and Tori Schrock; her mother, Clara Eves of Tipton; and a sister, Barbara Werling of Tipton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Eves.

After high school, the bride spent five years as a full-time Christian missionary at Youth With A Mission, Tyler, Texas. She now helps with homeschooling her husband's brothers and works at Fresh Cup. The groom earned an associate's degree in forestry technology at Pennsylvania College of Technology and is employed as a forestry technician in Allegheny National Forest.

Following a honeymoon to Belize, the couple resides Clarendon.

Henry Critchley was my G G Grand Father born 1820. He and his wife Ellen had many children and I'm still finding more.

I spent a lot of time and money looking into all this and I have most of the answers with back up.
I haven't been actve on the family tree for some time now as I hit a hard point around 1700. I have proof that the Blicks date back in Minchinhampton, Gloucester back as far as 1500 on micro fiche parish record but have not been able to link them yet as the info is hard to read.

We are at the same point. I gues syou know family trees for both the brother and Anne Blick are on the internet but there is a difficulty in that Thomas Blicks (The brother) father is recored as William Blick and Annes as David. They were born only a few years apart so common sense suggests they are brother and sister. William is given as Anne grandfather but there are problems if William is Thomas's father. To make that work William needs a new wife. (Dont we all?_

Thomas and Hannah(GAY) BLICK and family went to Nelson NZ in 1843 from Stroud as Thomas was my gggrandfather. As you say they were all related. The NZ records are all documented.
I live in Australia. His parents were David Blick and Ann Critchley.
Thomas's sister Ann BLICK m Thomas HARMAN the two families emigrated together to NZ.

It is of Homer B Van Santford as a Brakeman on a train. Homer I believe was William and Mina's Son. This picture is located on the Library of Congress Archive Picture search. my wifes ggggrandfather was george blick.he was born c1817,married to eliza borne c1817.im now stuck. i havent been able to find brothers and sisters for george.eliza was in most of the census has born in minchinhampton stroud,gloucester,but in 1891 was down has a british subject of the east indies?i would love to be able to find more family,before and after george----can you help?
