Thank you so much for sharing what you know. I started reading over my notes and noticed I hadn't responded back to you in appreciation for your efforts. It was most helpful to me. I've discovered that in addition to burned records, we have burned "fingers" and "eyes" that misspelled names horrendously. In an effort to find my Blayton family, I began to personally look at the first census and discovered my 3G grandfather with the name BATON as opposed to BLATON. Following suit by use of the misspelled name, I discovered his wife, Sarah Rhodes as well in Christ Church Records, a mystery I thought I'd never resolve. Once again, many thanx!

Hello, it is now July 2011, and after the last 18 months of sheer economic hell, I dare to check into this thread. Nonetheless, I appreciate your response(s), regardless how tardy I am in getting back to you. I think my family has made a great break through as the result of your supportive information.
Subject: [BLIGHTON] Bliton book: A Bliton Narrative
Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2001 23:14:56 -0700

For all of you that may be interested, one of our cousins, L. Dean
Shepard, has put out an interesting book on the Blighton/Bliton family.
It is entitled "A Bliton Narrative, Two Centuries of A Bliton Family" as told by L. Dean Shepard, Copyright January 21, 2001. His narrative starts with Thomas Bliton (c. 1780-1840), through Christopher C. Bliton (1800-1874), Era Rose Bliton (1853-1921), and Wesley Bliton (1883-1971). I have only read the first chapter and parts throughout
the book, but have found it very interesting so far. It is a nice
narrative on his Bliton line. I think some of you may also find it of
interest. I wish I had the time to get my long promised book done!
Dean, well done!!!

Dean can be reached at his email address: Deaneshep@aol.com. He lives
in Carmel, Indiana.

Robert Elayer
I am a Davidson, so my DNA would not be expected to match a Blayton. My DNA matches a couple of other Davidsons at this time, and we all seem to "trace back" to the David and/or William Davidson, who both died in James City Co., VA in 1687. The Davidson land there (just west of the Chicahominy River) became part of Charles City Co., VA in 1720.

I see (just from some "Goggle searches") where a William Blayton/Bleighton in the Charles City/Prince George Co., VA area in the 1700s was associated with the Ingram and Hicks (Hix/Hixe) families there. One of the members of my Davidson family (but not my direct line) married into the Hixe/Hix family of Charles City Co., VA (and later of Goochland Co., VA). Also, a man named Ingram Gill seems to have married one of the Davidson women in Charles City Co., VA, and he probably obtained his given name from the Ingram family. Ingram Gill may have married a SISTER of the Davidson woman who married Haley Bleighton (ditto Mr. Jackson).

Wish I knew more. Comments?

Hello and Happy New Year!!!

I lucked up on your query just 45 minutes before 2010. Sorry I'm about 5 years late in seeing this. However, I have a relative, who is a descendant of a John Blayton of Charles City County, Virginia. He did his DNA and I wondered if anyone in your family has done the same. I would be interested in comparing the results. The relative who had his DNA done is a Blayton who still resides on the land of his patriarchs in Lanexa, Virginia. Please feel free to reach me if you are still interested in sharing information. I have a roadblock above 1785. I do have a William Blayden of Charles City, Virginia (1760) who is a Rev. War Soldier. But beyond that point there is just spurious information. Also I do have a near exact match with someone named Jackson . But we can't make any sense in that since the Jackson says his people are from Tennessee. Thank you in advance for your response and DO HAVE A VERY PROSPEROUS YEAR AHEAD!!!

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if a copy of the book "A Bliton Narrative, Two centuries of a Bliton Family" by L Dean Shepard is available?

My Blightons came out of Cattaraugus Co NY. Hiram C Blighton was the son of Thomas Blighton and Neeltje Sharp. He was born abt 1806 and was married to Jemima McWithy about 1823. Their daughter Fidelia Chloe Blighton was my 3x ggrandmother.

Am curious to know if my line of Blightons are mentioned in this book. I tried googling the book but only one old reference, on this list, came up.

Thanks,

Colleen Lill

It shows she had a daughter Lucy and it appears my Henry was her son as well. But since he is a spouse of in a branch to far off the tree, I'm not looking for too much info on his parentage.

Hope it helps you.

Sandy D.

What is her birth information? I've just recently been looking into a Henry E. McWithey (1839-1929) that married into my Smith line, and he lists his father's birth as VT and mothers birth at NY.

He lives in Chippewa Co., WI which is not far from the Monroe Co. boarder from what I can tell. My descendants are mainly in the Monroe Co., WI area.

He may be related in some way, a brother or son to your Betsy's husband, J.G. On one census I found my Henry had a brother James b. 1872. That could be the J.G., just throwing it out there.

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

Sandy D.

Haley Bleighton in Charles City Co., VA-1762

There was a Haley Bleighton and his wife Hannah in Charles City Co., VA (CCCo) in 1762. They were in a chancery law suit with an Ezekiel Davidson, as well as with a Mr. and Mrs. Adams, a Mr. and Mrs. Gill and a Mr. and Mrs. Jackson (per a surviving court order book record). I SUSPECT that these four women were Davidson relatives (sisters?) of Ezekiel Davidson, especially since the court case was against Stephen Davidson (apparent relative of Ezekiel Davidson). Stephen Davidson had been the executor of the will of a David Davidson in 1756 in CCCo, and this David Davidson was the son of another David Davidson who had died in James City Co., VA in 1687 (the older David was married to a Sarah, and he actually came to America from Holland by AT LEAST 1682, per his 1686 immigration papers and per a land deed). Based on the above, I suspect that some Bl(e)ightons running around today are possibly Davidson descendants. If anyone has any comments or input on this, please pass it along. Thanks!

Blighton Family Name

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am at work using Google as I always do in my research and I ran into a Blighton website. I am a Blighton (maiden name). My father was Keith Blighton born August 24th, 1929 of Glenn Blighton and Marie Halsted-Blighton in Des Moines, Iowa. My father's father (Glenn) was institutionalized in the 1940s and my father was not allowed to see him. In July of 2000 my father succumbed to Pick's Disease. We were asked many questions during my father's illness from the doctors treating him. You see he was part of a UCLA study as respects British ancestry and related brain diseases. We knew nothing. After a lot of investigation we were able to learn what hospital our grandfather was in and found his records. He too suffered from a serious brain disorder though at the time not identified. The members of my family are Keith Blighton Jr., Stephanie Blighton, Glenda Blighton Tatge and me (Debra Blighton Imielski). My father had one sister - Maxine Blighton Schiffer. I know this may not be related to your Thomas Blighton, but I am anxious to find more of my fathers family members and this a start. Any response would be greatly appreciated.
Hello!

Once again, in my effort to connect John H. Blayton to the rest of the Blayton/Blighton/Blyton lineage, Thomas Blayton, attorney to Sir Wm. Berkeley suffered greatly in his role as supporter of Nathaniel Bacon (Bacon's Rebellion!) I believe he became penniless. However, the Berkeley brothers, as commissioned to the Kings Charles (I or II), became great land owners up and down the eastern seaboard from Florida to points beyond New York. It is fair to determine that Blayton's family left the Virginia area to go to points North and also points South (as there are Blaytons throughout North Carolina as well), as a result of the family name being scourged.

This is conjecture. But the facts are there. The Berkeleys, Blaytons Bacons were all family. As I said before, Wm. Berkeley is said to have sired Thomas Blayton.

Hi Deanna,
We have quite a few researchers that are connected to the Mead and Padelford Surnames. I am sure that they would be more than happy to help you with the direct connection. From a quick glance - It looks as if your Chauncy and my Willard Jonas are the connection. Please feel free to join the mailing list at BLIGHTON-L-request@rootsweb.com and type ONLY the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject line. This group is really great about helping.
Jackie
PS When I have the time, I will add more pages to my Website for the pictures I have and I would love to exchange info and pictures with you.

There is also something for George Blighton (Virginia Militia Officers and another document). all are attached here. Would love to hear any thoughts on these documnets.
If you want a clearer version - please email me - but be aware that they are large files.

Hi Jackie and other Blighton cousins,
It has been awhile since I have entered into Blighton discussions but I have still be now and then working on the Blighton tree. I have found quite a bit of stuff on the Virginia Blightons and am trying to get it together into a format I can send in to share. Be patient with me!

I have Capt. George Clayton Blighton - abt 1628-1711
Lydia Blighton, wife of GCB
Thomas Blignton, a merchant - abt 1659-????
William Blighton - 1764 living
Sarah Blighton - death? 1756
Child Blighton - buried 19 Apr 1798 Salem, MA

All these people (except the child) were in colonial Virginia around Charles City Co, Prince George Co, Brunswick Co, and the "Backwater Region" of colonial Virginia.

Only if I could make a connection between these Blightons and our Thomas Blighton in Vermont/New York. Our Thomas and Nellie were married in about 1792 but I do not know where. Hypothetically speaking, maybe they were married in Virginia and the child Blighton was their child born in Salem, MA while moving from Virginia to Vermont.

All this information I have gotten from the Internet searching through online archives from Virginia. There is a wealth of data out there for the finding!

hello, I saw your posting regarding Elijah Blighton, son of Thomas N. Blighton. Do you have any information on Elijahs brother Henry William Blighton born 6/20/1840, died 2/25/1919? I believe Henry married Amy Searl born on 12/12/1841, and died 11/21/1930. Henry and Amy (Searl) Blighton/Bliton would be my g-g-g-grandparents. Henry and Amy had at least one son named Tom Bliton who married Ada Bolles. Tom and Ada had a daughter Crystal. Crystal married Claude Hurst and had my grandmother Claudine Mae (Hurst) Weichmann. Thanks in advance for any information.
Oliver Blighton Baptizmal Name

This is a quote from some notes of my Aunt Gladys Blighton Freshour - daughter of Oliver Raymond Blighton:

"Oliver Raymond Blighton, son of Dora Franklin and Hiram Blighton, was born in 1888 in a sod hut near Lincoln, Nebraska. His birth name was Michael Oliver, but he always went by the name Oliver. He later took the name Raymond when baptized in the Catholic Church. He married Barbara Gappa, and they have 8 children: Mildred, Lucille, Gladys, Eugene, Francis, Florence, Marian, and Richard."
