Could be spelled Bleile,Blile,Bliley,or Blily. She was born Mar. 1868 and married John H Parker on Aug 6,1891 in Toledo,Ohio. They may have resided in Huron Co. then Sandusky Co. Ohio in 1900. Found a document that shows a Catherine, born to Barney and Catharine Blile on Mar.25,1868. Does anybody know of this family or can verify? In the 1930 census she lists as being born in Ohio and her parents are from Baden,Germany.

Thank you for the obituary of Sebastian Bliley. My great-grandmother who was a descendant of Sebastian Bliley married John Hirt who was a descendant of Michel Hirt. Said Michel was also a soldier of Napoleon's Imperial Guard according to George Hirt who contributes to this Message board. As both families were from the same place in Germany and settled in the same area, there were several marriages back and forth over the generations here and in Germany. One of Michel's sons claimed his birthplace as Germany and the other France; probably according to who was in charge of the area at the time.

Re: Sebastian Bliley

Titusville Morning Herald, Titusville, PA
Tuesday, August 20, 1872
DEATH OF ONE OF NAPOLEON'S OLD GUARD.
Green Township, this county, yesterday witnessed the largest funeral it has seen for years, the burial of Sebastian Bleile, nearly seventy-nine years of age, an old soldier who fought under Napoleon and witnessed the burning of Moscow. Sebastian Bleile was born at Krotzingen, Baden, Germany, and went as one of the Baden Contingent, 3d Regiment, Co. 1. He was very tall and well built, and was placed in the first company of the famous "Old Guard," serving in many engagements, accompanying Napoleon to Russia and taking the long winter march back, after the burning of Moscow. He fought at Leipzig, but was not at Waterloo. After six years service under the Emperor, he went back to Germany to live, and about thirty-five years ago packed up his little worldly possessions and started for America, a much greater undertaking in those days than at the present time. He came to this county and located in the "Beach Woods," Greene township, where he raised a large family of stalwart sons. Eighteen years ago he was paralyzed, and he has been bed-ridden ever since. Ten years ago his wife died, and he has since resided at the home of his son Ferdinand. Although the old man had lost the use of his limbs, his brain appeared to be unclouded, and he loved to talk to visitors, recounting, when the subject was broached, his experiences under Napoleon, whom he revered and loved with an enthusiasm that never abated. - Erie Dispatch.
Bleile / Baumann of Bad Krozingen

Hello to all,
I've just found the following:

-Mathias Bleile m. Margaretha Baumann 24 Sep 1780 in Krozingen (they were actually the parents of Andreas and Sebastian Bleile who moved to America in 1834

- parents of Margaretha Baumann were Andreas Baumann of Schlatt and Catharina KEPPEL of Gündlingen, Baden

- Andreas Baumann and Catharina Keppel m. 5 Feb 1754 in Schlatt, St. Sebastian. IGI marriage record says that Catharina Keppel was b. in 1732

Has anyone on this board verified info on this marriage? I have researched the parish records of Gündlingen (which is only abt 10 miles west of Krozingen), and have a Catharina Käppele who was born 2 Dez 1732. She's the only person who fits in.

I am related to the Käppeles of Gündlingen.

Best to you all

Andreas in Karlsruhe, Baden

Their oldest son William Andrew was my father. Thank you so much for your reply even if it took me so long to get to a little computer time and acknowledge your response. If you are still doing work on the Bliley's my email is lradke@mwci.net. I live in northwest Illinois so have rarely gotten back to Erie, but I would like to see postings as the Bliley reunions kept up. Mayhap I can make one.

I have been out of the ancestry loop for a couple of years. Was glad to see all the entries since then. I found Royal Bliley on the Special Schedule - Surviving Soldiers, Sailors and Marines and Widows, etc.Royal enlisted in the Navy July 1864 and was discharged July 25, 1865. He served on the Steamer Delaware as a Landsman (essentially the lowest Navy rating a beginner). The Delaware served on the James River, in the Hampton Roads area and on Chesapeake while Royal was serving on board. This info is in www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/WEBCUTTERS/Delaware_1865.html.
Thanks Hunter, Lyle Bishop, Sue Yosten for your input.

John Michael BLEYLE was my GGgrandfather, brother of Louis, Albert, August, Julia & Anna, son of John and Julia.

My grandmother was Dorothy BLEYLE Killingbeck and my Great grandfather was John Phillip BLEYLE (son of John Michael BLEYLE and Rose Walter) who moved to Sardinia, NY in 1930's. Andreas Bleile, Charles's father may be buried in this cemetery, but I have not yet determined that to be true. There is a Bliley headstone with plenty of vacant space surrounding it. I am trying to determine who is part of that family plot.

Charles Bliley
11/19/03
www.Bliley.net

Nov 1869), Celia, Rose, Elizabeth and Mary. Married second to Mary Cosgrove (1849-1936) and had 5 children, Sarah (12/17/1882-4/6/1903), Ella (b. Mar 1884), Anna (b. Dec 1886), Gertrude (b. Jan 1889) and Roy C. (b. Oct 1891).

Ella died 4/10/1952, married Frank Mosier.
Anna died 10/30/1972, married Fred Goetz
Gertrude died 6/19/1966, married Boyd Smith
Roy C. married Irene Smith

I'll have to do some checking on the Reinhold/Royal spellings, my wife (who is German) says the way people hear Reinhold might have changed to Royal. I have information on the children before the second marriage also.

Thanks, Lyle

Hi Lore, I have just received some information about a "Royal Bliley" from a Causgrove/Cosgrove relative. Have you any further information about these family members?....

"...MARY CAUSGROVE(COSGROVE) (1849-1936) married Royal or Reinhold Bliley (1845-1943) at St. Boniface's (Erie County, PA) on Nov. 4, 1880. They had four children:
1. Ella, 1884-1952;
2. Anne, 1886-1973;
3. Gertrude, ____-1965;
4. Royal, born 1891.
Mary Causgrove(Cosgrove)'s birth date is listed as Aug. 17, 1849 in the marriage register. Royal Bliley's name is given as Reinhold Bliley in the will of Philip Causgrove(Cosgrove) Sr., and as Reinhold Bleile in the register of marriages at St. Boniface's. Bleile apparently reflects the pastor's preference for the German spelling...."
(All above information gathered by P. F. Simmons)

Thanks! Hunter

I did find that spelling (Cresenthia Spath) on a record on the LDS site. I can then also assume that the names listed on the 1880 Census for Danel Bliley should be the following names:
Danel - Daniel
Gasans - Cresenthia
Emmy - Emma
Gassans - Theresia
Caroline - Lena
Rosey - Rose
I see that George is not listed, had he been born yet or died?
If any of the above names are incorrect let me know and I'll change them on my lists. I've just gotten this list my father gave me, we think it was done by Ward Bliley some years ago, before 'puters. I'm trying to put it all into place.

Lyle, I just now read your reply; guess I have been in outer space! Thank you for all the info.

Gertrud Josten was the 3rd child of Johann Peter Josten and Anna Maria Hild. She was born about 1840 or 1841. She died 30 Aug 1877, shortly after the birth of her last child. She had four brothers (Peter, John, William, and Paul) and two sisters (Margaret and Maria Theresia). The surname changed from Josten to Yosten sometime after the 1860 cencus. Margaret was born in 1838, John in March 1842, William in Nov 1847, and Maria in 1858. I don't know about the others yet.

John Yosten, Gertrud's brother, is my great grandfather. While Gertrud and most of the family stayed in Greene Twp, John moved to Nebraska and then to Texas.

I don't know what info you might be interested in, but I will be happy to comply.
Sue

Bliley/Bleile connect to Gredler in Erie PA

I am a descent of Sebastian Bleile's wife, Magdalen Gredler. There are a lot of these Gredlers, mostly in and around Erie PA. Magdalen and her brother Joseph were two children of the 12 had by Joseph Gredler and Magdalena Escher between 1793 and 1817 - they are from Biengen, Baden area of Germany - which is also in Baden/Black Forest region. Magdalen and Sebastian came to Erie between 1831 and 1835 - It looks like it was a family adventure with mutliple Bleiles and multiple Gredlers, inlcding one older generation

www.bliley.net is great. It helped fill out the Bleile piece for me - can anyone help with Gredler from Erie - I have dates for about 35 of them but no info to make the "glue." I think that a Joh Gredler was a poitician in Erie, but can't find documentation.

Hello, I am a decendent of Danial Bliley following his move to Richmond Va. I am a grand son of Leo Edward Bliley who was a grand son of Daniel. Would you by any chance know when he relocated to own a farm in the Richmond area? It would have been either Chesterfield County or Henrico County at the time. I suspect the move was sometime after the Civil War.

By the way, is there any record of the Family being in the Civil War by any chance?

Thanks for your time and assistance.

Actually, Daniel Bliley married Cresenthia Spath, she was born in Erie Co, PA in 1834. I am quite sure of the name as she was my grandmother's (Mary Cresenthia Bliley b. 1909) namesake. Mary Cresenthia later had her name legally changed to Mary Grace which is the namesake she bestowed upon one of her 7 children, my aunt.

Hi, I believe I have a connection to the Erie Blileys. My g-g-grandfather lived in Green Twp, Erie PA, and his sister Gertrud Josten married Ferdinand Bliley [according to St. Boniface church records, the name was spelled 'Blaile']. Their children were Ursula Theresia b. 1864, Maria Magdalena b. 1866, Guilhelmus [William] Daniel b. 1870, Albertus Joseph b. 1872, Franciscum b. 1877. Does any of this info fit in, or am I lost? If this is the same family, I would love to find some info on Ferdinand and his relatives. Thanks!

Erie Blileys

Hello. I am an "Erie" Bliley. There are two branches of the Bliley family that originated in Erie. Two brothers and their families came to America from Germany in 1834. They were Sebastian and Andrea (Andrew) Bliley. After a few years, the Sebastian branch moved to Virginia and settled in the Richmond area. I am from the Andrea line.

You may find some valuable information on the family on my Web site at www.Bliley.net. (Note the "net" suffix on the URL.) The site includes a letter written by my great-grandfather Charles Bliley in which he describes the circumstances under which they came to America and settled in Erie. Like so many of these stories, Erie was not their intended destination.

My site also contains a photo album of my grandmother Lula Bliley. It is focused on her parents family--the Dawsons of Corry, PA--but it includes several third generation Bliley photos.

Welcome to the family!
