Classification: Query
Surnames: Bliss Roberts
Searching for information relating to Weston Wilcox Bliss and his wife Sarah Roberts. They were married 1822 in Washtenaw Co., Mich. They relocated to Wite Pigeon, St. Joseph Co., Mich., directly as their children were born there beginning in 1823.
Weston Bliss was born abt 1797 in Hartford, Conn. Nothing is known of Sarah Roberts.
I have a short list of their children:
Louisa Bliss b. 1823
Weston b. 16 Feb. 1830
David Bradley b. 22 Mar. 1835
Cooley b. 22 Mar. 1835
James b. 1839
Child b. abt. 1841
Child b. abt. 1843
Although all refences of this family which I have located, state the birth of all the children in White Pigeon, none of the histories of White Pigeon or of the county of St. Joseph mention Bliss as an early pioneer.
However, both parents died there prematurely which caused all the children to be orphaned before their maturity.
I have a large history of David Bradley Bliss as he was my wife's ancestor. He set out into the world about age 14 when his mother died. David settled in several places but finally put down roots in the Hagerman Valley on the Snake River. A town sprouted up nearby and borrowed the family name. It is just off I-84 an hour's drive from Boise. This is his final resting place.
As a mature man, David Bradley Bliss returned to Michigan to look for his brothers and sisters, particularly his twin brother, but he was unsuccesful. The children were all split up and placed in the homes of friends when the second parent died in 1849.
