You state that your dad is a WWII vet -- have you tried the writing to the
National Personnel Records Center
Military Personnel Records
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100
What you will need to do is write a letter to your father telling him that you are looking for him with your return address on the outside of the envelope.
Address the envelope to your father with his complete name.
Then write a letter to the National Personnel Records Center requesting that they forward the letter to your father for you. If he is still living they will forward the letter to your father. If he has since passed on they will send your letter back to you with as much information that they can give to you about your father.
Provide in both letters your name, address, telephone number both home and work and e-mail address. In your letter the records center give to them as much info as you have his SS number, where he was stationed at, branch of service etc. Put both letters in the same envelope and mail it to them. Within a week or two you will hear back from the records center informing you that they forwarded your letter or info that they were able to find on your father. They also have a web site however, I do not remember where I placed that information. I received a beautiful copy of Certification of Military Service from them that belonged to my Dad. It is suitable for framing -- This office belongs to the National Acchives and Records Administration. Perhaps you might be able to use one of the search engines and find the office through the federal government. Good luck in looking for your father. Let me know if this lead worked for you!
