I am looking for any information on the family of William Bliss and his second wife Mary Rockingham. I have the following:

William Bliss was the son of Thomas Bliss and Elizabeth Dickins, I have the following on his parents and siblings:

Thomas Bliss was born about 1755. He was christened in 1755 in Northamptonshire, England. He died in Jul 1819 in Moore End, Northamptonshire, England. He was buried on 08 Jul 1819 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.


Thomas married Elizabeth Dickins on 03 Aug 1778 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. Elizabeth was born in 1756. She died on 26 Jan 1837 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She was buried on 30 Jan 1837 in Potterspury Reformed United Church, Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

They had the following children:

F i. Eunice Bliss was born in 1779 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She was christened on 06 Jun 1779 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She was buried on 30 Oct 1779 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

F ii. Sophia Bliss was christened on 04 Feb 1781 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.
Sophia married William Watts on 24 Aug 1801 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

M iii. John Bliss was born in 1783 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. He was christened on 24 Jul 1783 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. He died on 23 May 1783 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. He was buried on 25 May 1783 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

There is a discrepancy in the dates of baptism and burial. Suspect the curate,
Robert Harding, copied information into the register from scraps of paper and misread or misfiled the information.


M iv. John Bliss was born in 1786 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire,

England. He was christened on 19 Feb 1786 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. He died in May 1786 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. He was buried on 09 May 1786 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

"P" has been written after the name (burial records), probably to indicate that the tax was not paid.


F v. Frances Bliss "Fanny" was born in 1787. She was christened on 25 Mar 1787 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.
Frances married (1) William Foxley on 23 Nov 1812 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.
Frances married (2) Richard Thornton on 10 Jan 1825 in Potterspury,Northamptonshire, England.

M vi. William Bliss was born in 1789. He died in Feb 1855. (William is the focus of this question).

F vii. Hephzibah Bliss was born in 1791 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She was christened on 14 Aug 1791 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

Hephzibah married Thomas Foxley and are said to have emigrated to Australia.

Hephzibah married Thomas Foxley in 1814 in Passenham, Northamptonshire, England.

M viii. John Bliss was born in 1794. He died in May 1859.

F ix. Christian Bliss was born in 1795 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She was christened on 21 Oct 1795 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She died in 1798 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England. She was buried on 26 Feb 1798 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

F x. Christian Bliss was born in 1798. She was christened on 21 Oct 1798 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.
Christian married John Kirk on 04 Jul 1822 in Potterspury, Northamptonshire, England.

Notes on William Bliss:

William Bliss married Catherine Bryant on the 14th Of January 1820 at Passenham near Stoney Stratford, Northamptonshire, England. Neither William or Catherine could read or write. The witnesses to the marriage were Richard Foxley and Christiana Bliss. (I have most information relating to the fist marriage and children of William and Catherine).

William Bliss married a second time to Mary Rockingham. They were married on the 12th November 1835 at Potterspury United Reformed Church. (This is the foucus of this question, all information that I have is listed above)

William Bliss Married a third time to Eunice Woodward. They were married on the 15th December 1839 at Potterspury United Reformed Church. Witness to this marriage was Sophia Rattliff (or Ratcliff or Radcliffe) nee Bliss. I have posted a question about this family on this message board
