Hi Carole,

My Blissetts have been traced back to Poulshot in the 1700's so I would imagine that there could be a connection. I would need to check my notes and see what I have regarding Poulshot to see if we can fit the two families together. Do you have more info regarding your John's family?

If you want to email me with any further details and in the meantime I will look up what I have to refresh myself as I have been concentrating on another branch of my family lately.

Look forward to seeing what we can find.

Hi there,
I am also doing research on my family. Samuel Carter Blissett was my great grandfather, James Monroe Blissett my grandfather, and his son, my father Clifford Ellis Blissett. Samuel Carter Blissett was a Civil War Veteran and served with Co. H, 32nd Georgia Inf. The only information I have about Roland is a comment in a letter from my father's sister that a picture she sent of Sarah Catherine (Thornton) Blissett looked like him (Roland). The grandchildren called her Old Moma. It sounds like we may be cousins.
OGBS

I have a John Blissett who comes from Poulshot - this is just a few miles from Edington. He is aged 63 in the 1851 census. There aren't that many Blissetts in that area so they may well be linked. Do you have any more info?

Hi Jan
I am descended on my father's side from Hannah Elinor Blissett (my great grandmother)
who was born in Merthyr Tydfil in 1858. Her father was a John Blissett but for many years I could not trace
him as he died very young and therefore wasn't on many of the later census - however it
was clear that he wasn't 'local'. I eventually found him in 1851 as a servant to John Parry
de Winton and he gave his place of birth as 'Pawlspot' Wiltshire. I was quickly able to find
him in 1841 living with his parents and siblings at the Green Poulshot. The family
comprises:

John Blissett, 53, Labourer, Born in county
Elizabeth Blissett, 49, Born in county
Samuel Blissett, 20, Born in county
Edward Blissett, 15, Born in county
John Blissett, 13, Born in county ('my' John)
Elizabeth Fox, 24, Born in county
Henry Fox, 6 months, Born in county

I have the elder John on the 1851 census, still at the Green living with James and Ann
Gerrish.

Does any of this tie up with your research?
Regards

I am also descended directly from William and Martha Blissett. They were born in Wilbarston, Northamptonshire, England. I was unaware that they emigrated to the USA, but have details of the children left in England.

The Freestone Row address is in Kettering, Northamptonshire, where my 3 x gt grandfather Thomas Blissett died in 1892.

I hope that you read this message and reply as I am sure we have lots of information that we could share.

Liz Harris

I am trying to trace the family tree of william theselton blissett. I believe he was born in Liverpool in 1870, his parents are called Thomas and Annie. Thomas was born in approx 1841 in Smethwick, and Annie whose maiden name I don't know was born in Liverpool. They had sons called Gerrard, Joseph, Thomas and Florence. They had moved to Jersey in the 1881 census. Does anyone know this family, as I would love more information.

Blissett/Bankston Family

Need help with my brick wall. I am trying to prove that William R. Bankston, Andrew Jackson Bankston and Mary Ann Bankston are children of James E. Bankston.

In the early records of Jasper County and Butts County, Georgia, there was a James E. Bankston, Thomas Bankston and Abner Bankston, and others.

The reason for this posting is that lots of their documents and other items were witnessed and signed by your Blessit (name spelling varies) family members. These families seemed to move about, yet stay close to each other so there is going to be a close family connection between these families, where you find one, you find the other.

In your family search, have you run across any Bankston connections to the Blessits? Maybe in a Will there was some mention, a deed to some relative, possibly a marriage.

Would be most grateful for any information you would care to swap, trade or whatever.

Thanking you in advance for your reply.

Don Bankston
They would have been married around 1854. One of their sons left England for Australia. I'm hoping that he has brothers and sisters that stayed in England. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
