I am searching for the parents of my great grandmother. Her name was Araminta Abigail. Her death certificate has her father listed as J.W. Blizzard and her mother listed as Ann Parkins. Some say that her parents were John Blizzard and Mary McVey.
Any help would be truly appreciated.

Glad that I was able to provide you some information you were looking for. Would like to hear more from you on the Blizzard connection sometime. I just dabble in genealogy from time to time. I have a family tree program and keep filing names as I get them. I try doing a little research until I get stuck from time to time.

Mamie (Mary) still has one living sister who will be 98 in Dec.. She is the youngest sister.

We intend to go to Fredriction in early Nov. and hopefully maybe see one of my cousins on the Blizzard side. If not, I have another cousin that does keep in touch with some of them and will see if they have an e-mail address. The Blizzard children are scattered from side of Canada to the other.

Hello! thank you very much!! they are the people iv been looking for! although she is not the Mary i expected, my relation comes through Ernest Edward Blizzard's side. My mother is a blizzard and the tree has spread from there. if you would like the whole story of the connection ill explain! i love talking genealogy. Do any of the living family members feel like sharing their dates? im working on a Blizzard database, just a personal one though.

Sorry I've been so long getting back to you.

My aunt Mary Cummings (who we called Mamie) married Earnest Blizzard of Fredericton, NB.
Mary was born in 1899 in Scotland. Died 1970 in Fredericton
Earnest was born in 1900 and died in 1973.
They are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredericton
They had 5 girls and one boy - all still living.

Not sure if these are the same people you were looking for. If so, what is the connection? Are they somehow related to you?

Further to this, does anyone have any information on Richard or his three brothers?
I am trying to find the parents of my gr.gr.gr.grandfather George Blizzard b 1811/12 in Ashill Norfolk, but residing in Suffolk for most of his UK life. He married Phoebe Blake around 1833 and then in 1858 the whole family emigrated to Australia.
I *think* his father was Thomas Blizzard but there are no birth or baptismal records to help me. Does anyone have any records or sources to help find who George belonged to please?

John Wesley Blizzard was born in 1851 and not 1843 as many have been led to believe. Check out the Nicholas county family records for James Burton Blizzard married to Nancy Cummings Morrison at that time if you want to be accurate. He was 89 when he passed away in Richmond, Va. in 1941 as the last one in the Confederate Soldier's Home at Richmond. He was also my Great Grandfather.

Ernest Edward Blizzard m. Mary Cumming

Ernest Edward Blizzard married a Mary Cumming in 1924. Elseware in his family tree i have a Fred Cummings who married a Helen Blizzard. Their Daughter was Mary Cummings. Could this be the same girl? they both lived in Fredericton, New Brunswick and both would have been born in the early 1900s.

Hello:

I believe that the Blizzard family of Sussex County is all one family, so yes, we are cousins.

I descend through two Blizzard lines: my 2nd great-grandfather was Nathaniel Blizzard (b. 1825), and my 3rd great-grandmother was Mary Blizzard (b. 1808).

I haven't been able to find their parents, although I've probably seen them in the records.

I have the Blizzard family tree posted online at Rootsweb.com, but I haven't updated it or edited in some time.

I'd be glad to share information on the Blizzard family.

The 1sr Blizzard to come to the US was the Navigator on William Penn's boat, Thomas Blizzard. He is I believe a direct relative of mine. He was contrary so much so that William Penn told him to go to somewhere else or go back to the UK. He settled in Sussex Delaware and there are quite a few graves there. He was from Sussex England. I'm looking for a Leonard Blizzard (1886) New Brunswick, son of Oliver & Augusta Gordon Blizzard. Leonard married a May/Mae E ? who was from New Brunswick and her father was Alfred from Virginia. Lenord & his wife Mae moved to Boston (Suffolk) MA. and they also had a son named Leonard born abt 1910 or 1911. Last record I could find was 1920 US Census. Leonard died Sept 12 1980 in Weymouth, MA.

As we get closer to my 11-3-48 birthday, my wife continues to search my Blizzard roots. My birth parents would have been born in 1922 or 1923 , were unmarried, and reports indicate I had two siblings, born in 1944 and 1946 - a brother and sister, who may not be aware of my birth. My b-mom and a-mom were both cared for by the same OB/GYN docs, Drs. Pearlroth and Newhouse, from NYCity. I was born in Manhattan, at Wadsworth Hospital and my adoption was a private placement. Does any of this info sound familiar to your family?

Yes and not to far from there is our family plot at pooles cemetery on Salisbury Road. almost 100 graves there. planning on resting there. In retracing Mary (Aydelott) Blizard, I was looking for documentation that she had married Richard Lockwood after the death of John Blizard. The earliest record I found stating this union was pubished 1889 in the book Descendants of Robert Lockwood, History of the Lockwood Family in America by Frederic A. Holden and E. Dunbar Lockwood. This book is well known to have accepted material without verification. No doubt, a descendant of Richard Lockwood had submitted this data. How they came to this conclusion, is lost to history. There is no marriage record in Maryland for Richard Lockwood. I have found nothing to connect him to the Aydelott family until several generations later (great grandchildren of Richard). In a span of over 180 years, it is easy to understand how some information can be confused. Later on in 1959, The History of the Aydelotte Family in the United States, was published by the Aydelott Family Association repeating that Richard Lockwood married Mary Aydelott. No source was given and after reviewing a collection of Aydelott papers on microfilm, I found nothing to prove this union and only the following note regarding the union found in The Aydelott Family Association Bulletin #26 dated 6 Dec 1939 stating the following: "One of our recent valued correspondents is Mrs. H. C. Patton, Bellevue, Pa., who is making a systematic search for material which will throw light on an Aydelott-Lockwood marriage supposed to have taken place shortly after 1700 in the State of Maryland. Later there was a Lockwood-Patton marriage and Mrs. Patton descends through this line." As late as 1939, there was no proof of a marriage between Richard Lockwood and Mary Aydelott, and apparently Mrs. Patton did not find it by the time of publication. I also found in The History of the Aydelott Family that the tree or chart found in the book, did not always reflect some of the records that are found in the Aydelott papers. As a case in point, #79 Zadock Aydelott (p. 5) shows that Zadock Aydelott and Mary____-no record of children and Zadock Aydelott and Mary (Collins) Aydelott had five children and goes on to list those children. Among the Aydelott papers is a transcription of a family Bible mentioned in one of the Aydelott bulletins: "In the summer of 1935, when we were doing research in Delaware, we met Mrs. Mattie Townsend, daughter of Stephen Collins Aydelott, at Millville. Among her treasured possession is the old family Bible which belonged to her father. It is one of the most fruitful and authentic sources of information we have found. Several pages of birth, marriage and death dates are recorded. It is from this source that we are able to identify George Howard Aydelott, Sr., (son of Zadock Aydelott and Mary Holland) father of George Howard Aydelott, husband of Zana G. Aydelott." And yet the data recorded in this bible (births, marriages and deaths) was not reflected in the family chart regarding Zadock and the Mary's Aydelott. Nor does it show the correct information for #49 Matthias Aydelott who married Elizabeth (Derickson) Holland , widow of Israel Holland, not daughter of Israel Holland as the chart states.
Based on the following records, it is my opinion that the Widow Mary (Aydelott) Blizard married 2nd William Pepper and she died sometime before 1727 as he mentions no wife in his will. The fact that John Blizard was paid 500 pounds of tobacco tells us that he did have a son by 1707 and I believe that son was John Blizard, Jr. and another son Benjamin, found on the tax lists as a dependent of William Pepper. The bequeath of "Peppers Delight" to John Blizard in William Pepper's 1726/7 will would then be understandable as it would have been to his stepson. Note that John Blizard, Jr. was also executor of William Pepper's estate. Finally, the fact that Elizabeth Pepper was bound over to Benjamin Aydelott, the brother of her presumed mother Mary for her care.
William Pepper was the father of the following children: Mary; probably Arnold (who apparently predeceased his father and does not appear on the Tax List after 1725 and not named in his 1726/7 will); William; and Elizabeth. William Pepper might have been married previously, but I have found evidence of that at this time.

16 June 1703 - Benjamin Aydelott of Somerset executes his last will and testament saying in part, "I also give unto a son that may be born of the body of my daughter Mary Blizard five hundred pounds of tobacco if God pleases and I give unto George Blizard five hundred pounds of tobacco to be paid him at the birth of his first child by my daughter Sarah his now wife...sons-in-law John and George Blizard, personalty. " [Maryland Wills, Liber MH3:54; FHL#14528]

11 June 1704 - Administration of Benjamin Sr's estate. We Benjamin Idolot, John Idolet and William Idolet, Wm Richardson are bound for the sum of 200 pounds sterling. Benjamin, John and William Idolet Exec. [Administrations and Bonds (Somerset Maryland), JW No. 14:73; FHL #14530]

30 June 1704 - Benjamin Aydelott's will proved. [Maryland Wills, Liber MH3: 54; FHL#14528]

13 Aug 1707 - The accounting of John Aydelott, Executor of the estate of Benjamin Aydelott pays to John Blizard 500 pounds of tobacco and one bed. There was no payment made to George Blizard. [Maryland Probate (Somerset), JW15:317; FHL#14533]

3 March 1708 - William Pepper and Samuel Marchmon [sic] of Somerset gave a bond for the Administration of the estate of John Blizard late of Somerset. William Pepper was made Administrator. [Bonds and Administrations (Somerset Maryland), JW14:100, FHL#14530]

11 May 1709 - Francis Joyce and John Pope gave bond for the estate of George Blizard. [Bonds and Administrations (Somerset Maryland), JW14:125, FHL#14530]

I'd be interested in an exchange of ideas in this forum. I've tried verifying my g-grandmother's husband and both their families but no luck so far. Our oral history is that she (Maggie Blizzard) was born in eastern NC about 1860 to a William Blizzard and unknown. Her grandparents were supposedly full-bloodied Native American. Her father William supposedly died in the Civil War and her mother shortly thereafter. She was then taken by friends/family to Randolph Co. I do pick her up there starting with her 1884 marriage to Joe Brady and the 1900 census but before then are dead ends. I'd be interested in hearing ragamuffinjoe's and other's theories about the Native American connection. I've seen in this forum that some Surry Co, VA Blizzards were Nottaway Indian. The eastern part of NC has a large population of Lumbee, so there are lots of possibilities.

I show Levin Blizzard b. 1842 in Bladen Co. to George Blizzard and Chelly Ann Unknown (both born abt. 1804/5). I do not know Levin's wife. Levin was in the 61st Reg., Clingman's Brigade, NC Infantry and died late 1864/early 1865. Any additional info on Levin or his wife or dau. Maggie (my g-grandmother)or parents Geo and Chelly Ann would be appreciated.

Last year I traveled to the Indianapolis, IN library and found 100 plus pages in the genealogy section on our Blizard family compiled in 1969 by Mrs. Alleen Clark Wilkin of Monticello, IL. The title is Blizzard Genealogy and Related Families and this work includes a copy of the original handwritten manuscript by Silas Wm. Blizzard. know this is a late reply to this post, however I have been told all my life the same things. My Great Grandmother married a Blizzard and I was always told we had Indian from that side of our family. Has anyone found any connections?

Fletcher was the son of Clark and Molly (Hicks) Blizzard. You can see my entire Blizzard line on the WorldConnect by blizz62. Clark was the brother of my GG Grandfather, John.

divorced. I can't find Fletcher James's death date, but it
is after the 1930 census. Does anyone have his death date?

Hello i saw this thread and thought I would give it a shot. I was wondering if anyone has any of these Blizzards on your records. Henry (or Harry..hard to read on the marriage certificate) married to an Elizabeth. They had a son Oliver Frederick, born 1871 in Belleisle, Kings Co New Brunswick and married Sadie Jordan of Lakeville Corner. had a son named Percy Blizzard in 1908. I can not find anymore information in the NB archives and would like to find out something more than what I have as it is my family name. Any information would be great! Thanks

There was a Joseph Blizzard in my family. He married Rose Scullion of New Brunswick in the early 1900's and they lived in Dorval and Pointe Claire, Quebec.

My husband's grandparents were Harrison Blizzard (1836 IN - after 1906 IA)and Harrison's 3rd wife, Maude Susan Merritt (1864 OH - 1906 CO. Harrison was son of Washington Blizzard (d. before 1840 in IN) and Mary Ann Cooper (1813 OH - 1892 IA) who second md. a Johnson Webster.

For what it is worth: It is my understanding that the Blizzards originally came from England to NC and I have never heard of a Cherokee connection. Could the unusual names of two children of the 2nd marriage have been spouse connected rather than Harrison connected?
