I have a copy of a Blumling Family reunion list from ~1950. Included on the list is "Mr. Al Blocher & Family, 2930 West Liberty Avenue, Dormont, PA." Can anyone tell me how this family may have been related to the Blumling family of McKees Rocks, PA? Please feel free to contact me at mmbmj@msn.com
Mark Lucas (my gramma was a Blumling)

I think that when the spelling changed from 'H' to 'K' it is likely to remain with that spelling because when a census taker hears the name they would most likely assume that it would been spell Blocker. My immigrant had such a heavy German accent that that the census taker would probably hear 'Blu-Cher', which might be the answer to those that spell the name as 'Blucher' or 'Plucher' in this country.

Blocher / Blocker DNA Project

In 2006, I set up a Blocker / Blocher DNA project at FAMILY TREE DNA, which is now found here:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Blocker-Blocher-Plocher/...

We have achieved the main goal of this project: to prove or disprove that the BlocKer family of America descends from the BlocHer family in Germany.

We had been at a brick-wall for a hundred years on this issue, trying to find the illusive immigrant, or merely determine which country the Blockers here come from.

As to the BlocKers in America, we still believe that the first Michael Blocker (circa 1735 N. Carolina) was deliberately mis-listed as "Michael Blesser" who came over on the Ship Alexander and Anne, William Clymer, Master. September 5, 1730, into the port of Philadelphia.

There are numerous arguments that have led to this theory, so that we now believe this "Michael Blesser" to really be Michael Blocher, son of Georg Blocher and Maria Kapler, or at least from their basic Blocher family, and descended from Georg's ancestors somewhere. (This would include the Blocher/Wegengast marriage) You can check out the notes for who we are calling "Michael I" compiled here:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

and here for Michael II:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

We have now PROVEN with DNA that the BlocKer family in America - is closely related to the BlocHer families descended from both

1. Mathias BlocHer
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

and:::

2. Martin BlocHer
http://genforum.genealogy.com/blocher/messages/21.html

If you wish to join our dna comparison in the Blocker / Blocher family project, please do so soon, and let us know what your line is - as far back as possible. ANY info and of course a DNA connection will greatly add to the dimension of our final goal - to determine our common ancestors in Germany, and the migrations of the various branches.

Family Tree DNA has a strict privacy policy in case anybody is worried:

http://www.familytreedna.com/privacy-policy.aspx

Many Thanks,

Jonathan Blocker-Brown
Howdy SWB,

Was glad to see your note... we have already proved that we are close cousins with two of those who spell "BLOCHER."
1. David Blocher - who descends from Mathias:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

[[[We have a common ancestor with David at Georg Blocher (b. 1633) and Maria Kapler... ]]]

and:::

2. William Frederick (Bill) Blocher - who descends from Martin::

http://genforum.genealogy.com/blocher/messages/21.html

We are a PERFECT match with William F. (Bill) .. which baffles me because in his line - there is no intersect with where we "think" we come from :::

With David - we are one marker off ... and yet we come from a known common ancestor. (David also can't figure out how Martin Blocher ties in to ours!).

I would love to know what you think of the comparison of these lines.

Here is my fourth great grandfather and his pedigree::

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&d...

My line is PROVED back to who we call Michael III Blocher

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

And there is excellent circumstantial back to whom we call "Michael I" who was married to Margarethe Elizabeth (??? maiden name ??) NOTE: their daughter Barbary has an incorrect birth place noted in this pedigree ...

Let me know your thoughts of where you might tie in above us ... and let's put our heads together on this... I also believed that Bavaria is a stomping ground - but many of the church christenings are listed as Holzhausen Sulz, Schwarzwaldkreis, Wuerttemberg, Germany.

Last note::: as far as I can tell - there are NO records in our direct line that were spelled BlocHer ... it was always in the earliest deeds (from 1734) spelled "BlocKer." yet - we are definitely matched with the others.

Be Blessed!
Jonathan

Hello Jonthan,

Nice to see there's more Blocher/Blockers out there! I've found
your research to bs pretty interesting. I'm 23 years old and live
in Atlanta, Georgia. From my own personal research, I believe
the Blocher surname originated in Schwabia, Bavaria, Germany
and I know for sure that the first Blochers of atleast my branch
arrived in Pennsylvania in the mid-eighteenth century, because I
still have family there. I love my German heritage and I'm happy
to see other possible relatives of mine embracing and researching
theirs so let me know what's up and hopefully we'll find out.

Best Regards,

SWB

I see two different spellings for Mary Priscilla's name. If its indeed spelled with an "h", I suspect that she would belong to the descent of Andreas Blocher (Immigrating nephew of my immigrant Matthias Blocher (1730-1803), considering that lineage is hugely based in Maryland. If the spelling is actually spelled with a 'k', then she most likely comes from Michael Blocker I, who settled in Alabama. Or she could come from Samuel Blocher & Catherine Morningstar (son of Mathias Blocher, whom changed the spelling of his name from BlocHer to BlocKer)but they would mostly be in Ohio. If Norman Hare Jr. is reading this, I would love to get his input!

This is one of the reasons I want to get an account of all the Blocher Immigrants to America, that way we could eliminate the impossibilities and try to get a warmer trail of possibly connecting the brickwall to the proper immigrant.

One suggestion is to have one of your relatives that is still carrying the name of Blocher to do a DNA testing with any other descendants of an established "Blocher" Immigrant!

Your husband would be descended from Samuel M. Blocker, who married Catherine Morningstar. They changed the spelling from "Blocher" to "Blocker" for some strange reason. I descend from two of Samuel's brothers... John, and Joseph (Joseph's son, Daniel, married John's granddaughter, Catherine Bollinger).

Can you post your husband's line of descent, including their spouses?

David A.
Hi
Just had vacation in Oct last year. Town is really nice small & well kept up. My Plochers don't belong to yours but there is a guy there who has records of all Plochers that came over from Germany (our area) and he was supposed to give me a copy but somehow we missed his last visit to my cousins house in Horb> I got my family records from our family church across the street form my 6th generation cousins, It was great finding them and staying with them for a few days. I just got and E-mail from them this morn and in my return mail I will ask them to contact him for me and ask again for him to send me the list. I think he is your side of the Plochers. Mine settled in Decatur In. and then Defiance and Bluffton IN. Of course by the time my GGGG grandfather got off ship the person recording names had changed his name to Blocher & he just kept it of course will never know why. Then in late 1890s my G grandfather changed name again to Blocker. Kaizer Welheim was in power then lots of famon and plague in Germany plus fighting again. The funny part was he didn't want anyone to know they were German, stopped kids from speaking it also and get this the aentire town was German. Big deal huh? funny anyhow when I get in touch with hanns again I will forward any info to you that he has if you contact me at my home add
shelleyfromak@webtv.net
Shelley Hill
It was a shame, because it was the winner of the Pennsylvania Dutch Award in 1999.

Hopefully I'll some day be able to re-create that website and place it in an independant web-space!

I wonder what Roots Magic's web-designs are like!

David A.
Blocher / Blocker DNA Project

I just recently set up a Blocker / Blocher DNA project at FAMILY TREE DNA:

http://www.familytreedna.com/(anrz00455pf4qyegfgckb1rq)/ftGr...

The main goal of this project is to prove or disprove that the BlocKer family of America descends from the BlocHer family in Germany. We have been at a brick-wall for a hundred years on this issue, trying to find the illusive immigrant, or merely determine which country the Blockers here descend from.

Some of us now believe that the first Michael Blocker (circa 1735 N.

(This would include the Blocher/Wegengast marriage) You can check out the notes compiled here:

http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=bevange...

All we need is a male Blocher who believes they are descended from either Georg and Maria Blocher, or Jakob "Hans" Blocher and Anna Zetzel. I will pay the cost of doing a 12 marker test, which would point to a precise common male ancestor 300 years or more in the past.

PLEASE write me as soon as possible if you are, or know of, a willing Blocher candidate. This project will also help prove or disprive all families believe to related in the basic group of Blocher / Ploeger / Blucher / and Blocker.

Family Tree DNA has a strict privacy policy in case anybody is worried:

http://www.familytreedna.com/privacy.html

Many Thanks,

Jonathan Blocker-Brown

gg grandfather's information

Henrich Blocher born in Jan. 1865 in Holzhausen, Neiderhorlen, Wuertemberg
Germany
came to America in the 1880's. I found his name in the wisconson censes
along with his
wife, Elisabeth Hinn. They had 1 child , Henry Earl Blocher/Bloecher, as
far as my family
knows. I am trying to conform Heinrich's parent's name.

States they lived in Wi, MI and OR. Henry Earl Bloecher, my ggrandfather
is buried in
Riverview Cemetary in Portland, OR. Henry was born in Germany and I am not
sure if
that is true.

Henry married Alvina Lousie Weiderhoeft in Trinity Luthern Church in
Stettin, WI
and had 4 boys. Harold, Wibert, Rhinehard and George. George was my
grandfather
and he married Lydia M. Heoppner/Heppner in Portland, OR in 1925.

I hope this will help jog someone's memory or have information in their
research.
This is only part of my research problems. Also, if anyone has information
on a Eve/Eva
Blocher who married Adam Heppner in 1818. I am looking for her date of
birth.

Thank you for helping me.
Hi Eric!
I have tried David Blocher's htm and get only "http://www.broderbund.com/ " as a result.

Bill, please e-mail me at wfields@cox-internet.com. I am lost in finding who my GGgandfather's parents were, and your Joseph in S.C. might fit. I find my James Blocker in S. E. Mo. as early as 1847 by marriage record to Mary Elizabeth Wylie, Scott Co. Mo.. He may also be the James Blocker that married first in 1837 an Odelia Santford in Cape Girardeau, Mo. When he married Mary, there were 3 older Blocker childre,. Columbia, Henry, and Mary. This leads me to believe he was married before he married my GGgandmother.
There were Blockers in N. C., S.C., Tn, Mo. that I believe is where my James may fit. Thank you .

We are from the same Blocher line. Thomas Blocher and Mary Hartzell had 12 children. One was Thaddeus Blocher who lived in Littlestown. He had 8 children, one being Clarence W Blocher who was my grandfathers father. My father is still living and his name is Ira Malcolm and is 91 years old. He does not remember a lot and is an assisted living facility. Ira Malcolm's father was Ira Clarence. I do have a list of Thomas and Mary 's 12 children. Alot of them are buried in the Benders ville cemetery.
