John Rufus, Abner, William Blocker Cattlemen

I am trying to find anyone who has done research on this branch of the Blockers and have several questions.

1. Are Jann Cunninghams books still available and if so how do I contact her?

2. Does anyone know if there is a collection of papers of any of the brothers? I thought i ran across something years ago that a library somewhere in Texas had the papers of either John Rufus or Abner in a collection.

3. Does anyone know of anyone in this branch of the Blockers who would be a good lead for information?

I am a grad student working on my masters in History and want to do a research project on the brothers. I am the great-great grandson of John Rufus Blocker.

BLOCKERS OF COVINGTON CO AL

I've been trying to track down all the children of Mary Ann Catherine Taylor and John Olin Blocker, both of whom were born and died in Covington Co. AL.

The couple shows up in 1870 Covington Co. census, and later the family shows up in 1880 and 1910. Both Mary and John Blocker died in 1818 and are buried in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in the county. According to the 1910 census, the couple had 8 children. I can find traces of William Washington, John Abrams Randolph, Marion Jasper Ezekiah "Ezra", and a daughter named Iola, but little else.

Any information on this family will be appreciated, but I am especially looking for their 1900 census listing.

Plant City, Mar 31 - Vscar Blocker, 71, of West Haines St, died in a local hospital Tues. He was a life-long resident of East Hillsborough Co. For a number of years he was in the fruit packing business and recently had been associated with a loal amusement center. He is survived by son Robert Blocker, Philadelphia, and a brother, Jack Blocker, Tampa.

Not much to go on, but it's all I have.

I'm supposing Miriah (Mariah, Maria, Mary) LINDSEY's father died, and her mother - name unknown to me - then married BLOCKER. They lived in and around Colleton County, South Carolina.

Miriah Lindsey married Marion Doyle, South Carolina. Their daughter, Bertha Mae Doyle, married Theodore Hull Poythress, who are my grandparents.

Although any BlocKer in America is free to participate, the main goal of this project is to prove or disprove that the BlocKer family of America descends from the BlocHer family in Germany. We have been at a brick-wall for a hundred years on this issue, trying to find the illusive immigrant, or merely determine which country the Blockers here descend from.

Some of us now believe that the first Michael Blocker (circa 1735 N. Carolina) was deliberately mis-listed as "Michael Blesser" who came over on the Ship Alexander and Anne, William Clymer, Master. September 5, 1730, into the port of Philadelphia.

There are numerous arguments that have led to this theory, so that we now believe this "Michael Blesser" to also really be Michael Blocher, son of Georg Blocher and Maria Kapler, or at least from their basic Blocher family, and descended from Georg's ancestors somewhere. (This would include the Blocher/Wegengast marriage) You can check out the notes compiled here:

All we need is a male BlocHer who believes they are descended from either Georg and Maria Blocher, or Jakob "Hans" Blocher and Anna Zetzel. I will pay the cost of doing a 12 marker test, which would point to a precise common male ancestor 300 years or more in the past.

PLEASE write me as soon as possible if you are, or know of, a willing BlocHer candidate. This project will also help prove or disprove all families believe to related in the basic group of Blocher / Ploeger / Blucher / and Blocker.

Thomas Ray Blocker, 25, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Evans Memorial Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born in Bulloch County, living in Glennville all his life. He was employed at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Statesboro, and was a wrestling and racing fan. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Burkhalter.

He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Tammy Blocker of Glennville; a brother, Blake Blocker of Glennville; his maternal grandmother, Helen Burkhalter of Glennville; his paternal grandparents, Wright and Beatrice Blocker of Glennville; a special friend, Kellie Lynn; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. James M. Holland officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Jeff Cook, James Cook, David Gay, Andrew Gay, Victor Kennedy, and Zachery Taylor.

I am looking for info about my great grandfather's relatives. My great grandfather, Willie Blocker, was adopted. All we know is that he was adopted by a Dr. Blocker who lived in SC. We do not have a first name,or his wife's name. Willie's birth date was 7-6-1868. When he was a young man he left SC and went to GA. He married Lillie Crosby. He died 3-3-1934 in GA. Janie Ruth Blocker passed away February 26, 2006, with family and friends by her side.

Born Janie Ruth Anderson on September 6, 1914, in Tattnall County Georgia, she married Zedra Blocker, also of Tattnall County. They moved to the Brunswick area during the earlier shipyard days to start a new life. She was the longtime owner and operator of the Georgia and Florida Market on Norwich Street in the 50s and 60s and was a longtime member of Pine Haven Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Zedra Blocker; a son, Clarance; and a daughter, Eloise.

She is survived by five children: Virginia Steward of Newport News, VA; Linda and David Hunter and Sylvia and Rev. Charles Smith of Brunswick; Sue and the Rev. Bob Corley of Austin; and Butch and Carole Blocker of St. Simons Island; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at Pine Haven Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Sammy Chancey.

Active pallbearers were Pete Carter; Chris Dillman; Billy Branch; Clarke Wiggins, Jr.; Darrell Crosby; Lloyd Douglas; Sam Copeland; and Ken Gray.

Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Men's and Senior Ladies' Sunday School class at Pine Haven. Burial was in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

He stated shortly before his death that he had traced all of the Blockers back to one point in Fayettville NC in the 1600's. The name was derived from the German Name "Bluecher" from the Heite German Clan. This clan was reported by him to be ancestors of the General Von Bluecher that had ties with Napolian. Many names used in my family where Haley, John, Micheal and William.
Locations involved in the information I have is Fayettville NC, Edgefield SC, Green County AL, Texas and Florida.

REV. SAMUEL U. J. PEARD, rector of Grace Episcopal church, addressed the group on the vital relationship of fathers and sons and the individual responsibility for wholesome recreational facilities in the community.

HOWARD D. UNDERHILL offered a toast to the sons while the response, was made by RALPH H. BEILSTEIN.

LAWRENCE CHAMBERLAIN and MAURICE STRETCH provided entertainment and group singing was led by REV. HERMAN L. GILBERT.

The final summer meeting of the men of the church wil be held June 17.

Hello...back in the 80's a Lois Blocker visited with my grandmother (who was daughter of Franklin Michael Blocker) as she was doing research for her husband's Blocker Family. Supposedly they lived in the Houston area and he worked at a Cadillac Dealership. My grandmother died soon after that and my Dad was unable to reach Lois Blocker.

Larry "Bull Ant" Blocker, 66, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Anderson.

He is survived by five children: Lynn Hederson of Ludowici; Charlene May and Beth Bradley of Glennville; Barbara Rucker of Claxton; and Billy Todd of Jesup; two sisters, Bobby Tuten of Miami, Florida, and Tessie Bell Tuten of South Carolina; two brothers, Bernie Blocker of Glennville and Donald Blocker of England; the mother of his children, Grace Blocker of Glennville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Cornerstone Bible Church, with the Rev. Bobby Brinkley officiating. Burial was in Harmony Church Cemetery.

Frances Blocker, 78, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at Central State Nursing Home in Milledgeville after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville for several years, moving to Milledgeville many years ago. She was a Catholic.

She is survived by two sisters, Onell Barnard and Emily Hammock, both of Glennville; one brother, Jeral Blocker of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 7, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Glennville, with Father Ed Gorney officiating. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Derrell Bland, Gary Banks, John Narcarti, Dana Hammock, Will Mahnke, and David Smith.

Remembrances can be made to Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery Fund, 8882 Hwy. 144, Glennville, Georiga 30427.

Port of departure: Hamburg, Germany; Port of Arrival: New Orleans, LA; Ship: Desiree and Tully; Arrival date: 27 June 1847

Hinrich Chr age 40; Sophia age 44; Christian age 22; Heinrich Frd age 18; Hans Christian age 15; Asmus age 12; Jorgen Hinr age 7; Johann age 4, Hans Christian age 1; also a Blocker, C. H. age 37.

No record has been found of C. H. Blocker (probably brother or cousin of Henry) or Sophia or her son Hans Christian age 1, in Scott Co., IA. I suspect that they died of cholera on the trip as many of the passengers and crew reportadly did.

A.J. Blocker, age 86 of Whitney, died July 12, 1995 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas. Funeral services were Friday, July 14, 1995 at 2 p.m. at the Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Hillsboro with Minister Preston Cotham and the Rev. Joe Bob Boyd officiating.
Mr. Blocker was born on July 22, 1908 in the Bethel Community, Hill County, Texas. He was the son of George Christopher and Lillie (Smithson) Blocker. He lived in the Bethel Community all of his life. He married Gladys Ruth Sessums, February 7, 1930. She preceded him in death on September 29, 1986. He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Blocker is survived by three daughters, Vivagene Copeland and her husband Dick of Hurst, Annette Weeks and her husband Don of Southlake and Joyce Gilbert and her husband Bill of DeSoto; three sisters, Marie Griffin of Blum, Mary Lou Williams of Cisco and Margaret Holder of Cisco; three grandchildren, Lanette Dean of Boyd, Randy Weeks of Roanoke, and Jeffery Gilbert of Hillsboro; five great grandchildren, Amber and Danielle Copeland, Jennifer Dean, Joseph Dean and Jill Dean; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
The family requests that all memorials be made to the Peoria Cemetery.

HAMPTON-Luchion Blocker, 78, of Hampton died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Bradford Terrace Care Center in Starke following an extended illness.

Born in Hampton, Mr. Blocker was a lifelong resident of Hampton. He was a retired logger and veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Blocker is survived by a caregiver Mary Jenkins of Hampton and a host of nieces, nephews and a special friend Bernice Durham of Hampton.

Funeral services for Mr. Blocker will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Hampton with the Rev. J.B. Richardson, eulogist. Burial will follow at Hampton Cemetery under the direction of Haile Funeral Home of Starke.

Visitation is Friday, July 19, 2002, in the funeral home chapel. Family hour is at 3 p.m.; friends 5-8 p.m.

Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Blocker.

Mrs. Ernest Blocker

Arline F. Blocker, 73, 804 East 6th, died Sept. 9, 1982, at Golden Plains Convalescent Center. She was born Arline Gemeinhardt on Sept. 26, 1908 in Bushton. She married Ernest Blocker on Dec, 16, 1954, in Hutchinson. He died in 1972.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors: stepsons, Herman, St. Louis; Alvin, San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughters, Ernestine Fowler, San Antonio, Texas; Charlotte Farron, Rochester, N.Y.; brothers, Edward Gemeinhardt, Lyons; George Gemeinhardt, Chafflin.

Funeral 2 p.m. Monday at Our Redeemer; pastor V.W. Aurich; burial Pleasant View Cemetery in Huntsville Township west of Hutchinson. Friends may call until 9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials to "The Lutheran Hour" in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Bonnie C. Blocker

Mrs. Henry M. Blocker, 70, 309 West 14th, died Thursday morning at Grace Hospital after a five month illness.

She was born Oct. 19, 1898 in Reno County. She married Henry M. Blocker Feb. 7, 1923 at Sylvia. They moved to Hutchinson in 1950 from Zenith.

Member of the Eastwood Heights Church of Christ.

Survivors include the widower of the home at 309 West 14th, two sons Ervin and Kenneth, Oaklawn, Ill., daughter Mrs. Marguerite E, O'Steen, Danville, Calif., brother Ralph E. Keesling, San Gabriel, Calif., sister Ethel Keesling, 720 East B, two grandchildren.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, Elliott Chapel, Mr. Jimmie Keas, Mr. Doyle Wells, burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Call at Elliott's Chapel Friday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Minnie Anne Hanson

Minnie Anne Hanson, 91, of 1201 East C, died Feb. 8, 1988, at Golden Plains. Born Minnie Anne Blocker Dec. 7, 1896, at Sylvan Grove, she married Ordie W. Hanson Aug. 7, 1920, in Hutchinson. He died May 31, 1977. She was a long-time Hutchinson resident and was co-owner of Fourth Avenue Shoe Repair before retiring in 1965.

She was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ.

Survivors: son Virgil W. Jones, Sr., 1620 East 8th; daughters, Virginia M. Carroll, 305 Eastside Drive, Valva L. McLaren, Wichita, Viola E. Steen, Moreno Valley, Calif., Darlene M. Moore, 308 North Chemical; brother, Lewis Blocker, Burdett; sister, Lydia Seyfert, Lincoln, Neb.; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Eastwood Church of Christ, Mike W. Brazle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson. Memorials may go to the church.
