Hi,
Yes I am still using ancestry.com. Your message was forwarded to my inbox. I have not had much time to do additional research on my Blockers, but based on a DNA test, I have confirmed that my line does go up through the Sartain/Sartin line, through Mary Ann Sartain who married John David Blocker.
Mary Anne Price

These messages are from a decade ago but I thought I would post anyway. I am also a descendant of Michael Blocker and Roseanna Griffin. I have tried to find the Blockers of America book but have not been able to find a copy. Mary Anne Price, are you still using ancestry.com?

I don't have the answers right off, but since you use the spelling with a 'k' rather than an 'h', my instincts tells me you are descended from Immigrant Michael Blocker, who is the same immigrant that actor 'Dan Blocker' descends from.

I am descended from the ever elusive Daniel Blocker and would love to see the Vol. II and whatever there is of Vol.III.

I've heard Vol. III was in the works when Jann passed away.
Anthony,
I am working with my sister, Tammy Williams, on my husbands ancestry. His name is Garold Rex Blocker. He was told stories as he was growing up, that he was of Seminole descent. His father was Arnold Ray Blocker...known living areas were Michigan, Florida and lastly he lived in Mississippi and died there. We have hit a dead end though trying to find anything more on the Blockers. So, it is good to have found your message about all of the Blockers having originated from Fayetteville, NC. Can you tell me anything that might help me break through the wall we have hit?
Thank you,
Annette Bailey-Blocker

I just spoke with my aunt and these are the names she could remember.

Clifford (or mispelled "Clifton"), Father Robert Mother (as yet identified), two sisters Gertrude and Selma. Cliffton born in AR, possibly a town called "Hamburg" (my uncle remembers driving to visit with Cliffford his cousins just accross the state line). Katie Nimmer Blocker, Father William mother Gertrude. I remember my mom referring to GM Gertrude as "Big Momma"(apparently she was very tall). This ancestry work is hard . . . gives me brain freeze.

Thank you very much for replying and adding data. Actually, I had no idea my GF was born in Arkansas. I was overseas in a war when he died and noone made any effor to hold important documents, everything was just thrown in pile and burned. I do he was said to be of German decent with some "Arkansas" Indian someplace in the family line. I get double vision doing this work sometimes, glad to see so many people filling in their blanks. The new Census surveys are going to make following genrations absent anthing useful in these serches so I was trying to leave a legacy comeplete enough to keep the history intact. Try looking up "Jones" some day for fun . . . not much fun . . . I've gotten that line back to 1830. Cheers and thanks all.

Hi, I just saw your email and I have a copy of the Blockers in America book. I checked the names you listed to see if any were there, but they were not. Please note that I have found that while the book is helpful, it is far from complete, and in the case of my family, there are some inaccuracies, as well. I did do a quick check on Ancestry to see what I could find and found Clifford O. Blocker on the Social Security Death Index, with a DOB of 6 Nov 1912, DOD of Aug 1992. A Clifford Blocker is in the Birmingham AL census for 1930, born @ 1913 to Robert P. and Leona Blocker, birth location for Clifford is shown as Arkansas. In the 1920 census, the same family is in Birmingham, and Clifford's name is shown as Clifton O. Blocker. You may already have this much info, but perhaps it is helpful. My grandmother was a Blocker from Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Ella Bishop Blocker, daughter of John David Blocker and Mary Ann Sartain), and I grew up in Birmingham, so wanted to take a look for you.
I know the email address is 5 years old but it comes back underliverable. In fact, every address listed has come back the same so I'm puting my request in as many places as possible hoping one of you will notice.

My name is Paul E. Jones III, my mother (was) Edna Ruth Blocker one of five daughters born to Clifford Orel Blocker and Katie Nimmer Blocker of Roebuck, Alabama (just North East of Birmingham, Al near Center Point). I’ve been trying for years to get in touch with Dirk or anyone so I could fill in the gaps of the Blocker side of the family tree. I know Dirk most likely never sees the letters that are mailed to the address found most prevalent on the network. I found all the posts on the Blocker’s, so I thought I would throw a dart in the dark. No one in the family has any documentation now that Clifford and Katie are gone. Everything was discarded without review while I was overseas.
Best regards,

Paul
USN (Ret)
p.jones3@comcast.net

I am also looking to purchase the books as well. I am Matilda Caroline Blocker-Burks Great Great Grandaughter. My Great Grandmother is Safronie Azalea Burks-Franklin. I have been doing research for several years not but still trying to fill in the blanks since my Great Grandmother was seperated from the rest of her family at such a young age. Thanks and please let me know how I can get a copy of the books. I was told that one of them has an actual photo of my G.G.Grandmother and with her children and my G.G. Grandfather Samuel Augustus Burks. Thanks, Roxanna Cowan (East Texas)

Joseph Blocker from GA or NC?

I have just begun researching my husbands' Blocker ancestors. I read with great interest the posts on these forums.

I'm having a hard time finding much of anything on my husband's family and I was hoping that you had some information in your records that could help me.

My husband, Randy Blocker, was born 25 July 1957.

His father was Alford Julian Blocker, b. 14 Mar 1921, Seminole County, Georgia; d. 27 Jun 1964, Natchitoches, LA. (His father died when he was young and he did not spend much time with his Blocker relatives, so he doesn't know much about the family.)

Julian was the son of Joseph M "Joe" Blocker, b. 29 Mar 1896 in Georgia, d. 5 Mar 1981, Decatur Co, Georgia, and wife Georgia Lynn, b. Aug 1895, d. Nov 1958.

I belive that Joseph M (b. 1896 d. 1981) was the son of another Joseph M, b. abt 1860 d. 1914, & wife Georgiann, b. abt 1860 d. ?, last name unknown.
The 1900 Georgia census for Montgomery County lists:
Joseph M Blocker age 39 Birthplace: GA Father's birthplace: NC Mother's birthplace: GA (b. abt 1861)
Georgiann Blocker age 39 Birthplace: GA Father's birthplace: NC Mother's birthplace: NC
John E Blocker age 12 Birthplace: GA Father's birthplace: GA Mother's birthplace: GA
Margaret M Blocker age 11 same same same
Mary V Blocker age 7 same same same
Joseph M Blocker age 4 same same same (b. abt 1896)
Minnie L Blocker age 2 same same same
I'm pretty sure this is the correct family, because Randy does remember that his grandfather had a brother named John, although he doesn't remember anything about them living anywhere besides Decatur and Seminole counties in Georgia.

The only other record I can find is the 1880 Georgia census for Montgomery County that lists:
Joseph Blocker age 80 / head / Birthplace: GA / Father's birthplace: GA / Mother's birthplace: GA (b. abt 1800)
Thomas Blocker age 27 / son / Birthplace: GA / Father's birthplace: GA / Mother's birthplace: GA
Joseph Blocker age 25 / son / Birthplace: GA / Father's birthplace: GA / Mother's birthplace: GA (b. abt 1855)

This has me confused because the ages of the Joseph's don't match, not even within a year or two... If the young Joseph in the 1880 census is the same one as the Head of Household in the 1900 census, the ages are off by 6 years.

And when I started looking in North Carolina for Joseph M Blocker's birth records, I come up empty.

I hope someone has info that can help me! Thanks!

I was a Blocker and am from the Charleston area. My dad was James K. Blocker, born Walterboro, s/o Albert Siftley Blocker & Janie Adams. If any of these names connect with your line, I'd love to hear from you and exchange info. Also have lots of "Blocker" photos.
Fannie Blocker Bertram (chicora@hughes.net)

Re: Blocker Family History

My name is Harry Eugene Blocker III. I've traced my "Blocker" line back as far as Michael Blocker Jr (1700-61) -- Michael Blocker III (1725-74) in Cumberland Co. NC, John Gottlieb Blocker in NC and SC (1749-1814), Jesse Blocker in SC (1780-1831), William Johnson Blocker in SC and Texas (1811-59), Eugene Burrus Blocker in Marshall, Texas (1837-1922), Eugene Everett Blocker in Honey Grove, Texas (1866-1926), Harry Eugene Blocker, Sr. in Lubbock and Dallas, Texas (1892-1963), to my father Harry Eugene Blocker, Jr. in Dallas, Texas, born 1916.

My question concerns the stories I've heard that this clan of Blockers came from Prussia -- Bluecher and related to General Von Bluecher who helped defeat Napoleon. Is there any truth to these stories? The Blockers from North Carolina in the mid 1700s seem to be in a very English community. Where did Michael Blocker Jr (1700-61) come from? Who were his parents?

I know you said once that there was no proof regarding these early Blockers (from the late 1600s and before) -- but do you have anything new?

Gene Blocker
