Rescued Photos, BLODGETT Surname, EMBURY Maiden Name, NY

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I recently obtained two photos of women-sisters I'm assuming. One is identified as Susan Embury Blodgett and the other is Pauline Embury Cattus. Both have dark "rings" around their eyes, kind of pentrating.

On the back of the photo of Pauline is a photographers date of 1880.

I'd like to locate family to send these to. If you're interested in obtaining them, please send a note to me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

The list below are copies of documents that were sent to me by Rush Blodget Jr. to share with other researchers. Some of the documents, listed below, are duplicated in my earlier posts. Each title describes briefly the contents of the documents. We are very grateful to Rush Blodget Jr. for generously sharing these documents with other researchers. The data is an accumulation of his and his father, Rush Blodget Sr’s life’s work through professional researchers in England. If you have an interest in any of these documents, please provide me the title and an email contact and I will send the scanned copy to you or you can visit one Scott Blodgett’s website - http://picasaweb.google.com/bluecoat.nh5/AncestralLines# - which is currently under construction.
Orville Blodgett/M. Chilton

Daughter of Orville Blodgett was Millicent Chilton born 1853 in Swanton Falls VT. Moved to WI. Found in 1870 census in a boarding house with Sarah Blodget in Beaver Dam where she met my gr. grandfather William C. Blissett. They then moved to Oshkosh. Question is: Who is Orville Blodgett (Blodget) & who is Millicent Chilton. The families had intermarried in other parings. Some Chiltons were from just across the border in Canada. Millicent Blodgett Blissett listed her father as born in Vermont and her mother born in Canada. Anyone have an Idea? Thanks

Blodgett origins and DNA

I am wondering if any research using today's dna technolgy has been done to determine where the ancestors of Thomas Blodgett the immigrant originally came from.
This passage, which I think is from Ten Generations of Blodgetts in America,
by Edwin Blodgett, is what made me ask this question.
"The Blodgett family in America, so far as records and history establish it, is of English origin. Back of the English generations there is room for much conjecture. Some researchers claim French-Norman descent, and point out that one Robert Bloct (Blojet or Bloyet) a Norman bishop, in the service of William the Conqueror, came to England and was appointed Bishop of Lincoln, was the first known of the name in England. Others claim that the first of the name in England was among the Huguenots driven out of France by Louis XIV; and still others, that the name originated from the Italian Blognetti family, one of whom came to England with the Roman Legions."
Looking online I can find no information on a Blodgett DNA Project, which makes sense to some degree because we all know where we came from (Thomas ). But I wonder if any testing has been done, perhaps academically, to determine where they family originated, either using the supposed ancestry as qouted above, or other theories.
If DNA testing has been done in Europe of the Bloct,Blojet,Bloyet, Blognetti or Huegenots of which ever Surname is thought to equate to Blodgett, how would one find out. I am not sure if genealogical DNA testing is done in Europe to the degree it is done in the USA, and as my only language is English, web searches in Europe have not been fruitful.
Does any one have any ideas/info.
Scott Blodgett

Edwin A Blodgett

I have a copy of a letter that Edwin A Blodgett wrote to my Great Grand Father William L Blodgett on Feb 11, 1922. My father has the original. He was writing to him on geneology information for my side of the family. He mentioned in his letter about writing a book on the Blodgett family and hoping to publish it soon. Would this be the same Edwin Blodgett that wrote the first 10 Generations of the Blodgetts that was published in 1969? Are there any family members out there that are interested in seeing this letter? Let me know.

Gail Lambert (BLodgett)

Im lookinf for information on Philip Blodgett. He lived in the Shasta - Redding area from around 1850 - till after 1900. I believe he was a widdower when he came out from Ohio. He had a son with a Shasta-Wintun Indian woman around 1860. His name was Alexander. He was my great, great, grandfather.

Alexander married Ida West (Indian name Silverthorn) in Round Mountaqin, 1880. They had six children, all who were taken and put in the Chemawa Indian school, Salem OR between 1888 and 1903.

Any information on Philip Blodgett or other Blodgetts in the area at that time would be greatly appreciated.

Also spelled Phillip Blodget on some records.

rockwood
redearthiic@ y a h o o . com

Daniel Blodget(t) and Mary Mallet lines, born Woburn, MA,married 4 April, 1709, died Stafford, CT.

Hello, my name is Michael Safranek, of Chicago, Ill. I am researching
my Blodget(t), Mallett lines. The lived in Woburn, MA before moving to
Stafford, CT in 1719 from Woburn, Middlesex County, MA . In particular, I am trying to
find the parents of a Mary Mallet who was born 1689, married a Daniel
Blodget April 4, 1709 in Woburn, MA, and died March 20, 1759 in
Stafford, CT. Her father -may- be a John Mallett as I found a minimal reference
to him in a LDS site. It says he was born about 1658.

My family had a Huguenot Bible that came from France when the
Protestants were fleeing to America. The Bible is inscribed "La Bibble de la
Granmere Monsieur Benjamin Blodget". Bnejamin Blodget was the grandson of
the above couple named. A Blodgett desendant, my mother's great-aunts,
donated it to the Dayton Art Institute in the early 1950's.

In researching my Blodget lines, I have found references to Ensign and
Captain, I am assuming they were sea captains/fishermen? Not being
from New England, I would appreciate any light on these name prefixes.

Thank you.

Lucy Blodgett (b. 1880), wife of Jay S. Whitehead, daughter of Andrew and Sarah Blodgett

I am seeking information about the children of Lucy Blodgett and her husband, Jay S. Whitehead. Lucy and Jay married after 1900. In 1920, they lived in Cato, Cayuga County, NY, and in 1930 lived in East Syracuse, Onondaga County, NY. Their children were Lloyd, Frederick, Doris, and Vernon, born between 1903 and 1908. Are there descendents of the sons who might be interested in some of the Whitehead family history?

Lucy Blodgett was born in Nebraska in 1880. She was a daughter of Andrew J. Blodgett (b. 1850) and Sarah Jane Henry (b.1851).

In 1920, Andrew Blodgett lived with Lucy and Jay Whitehead in Cayuga County, NY.

Sam Blodgett, 83, dies MT 1917

BLODGETT DIES AT POORFARM
Montana Pioneer Fought With Custer and Kit Carson
BUTTE- Formerly the hero in many battles with Indians and an early pioneer among the men who blazed the trail into Montana, Sam Blodgett died at the county poorfarm here penniless and destitute. Fifty years ago the name was synonymous for daring courage and skill in western states. The other day he passed away, alone, almost forgotten by a people for whom he had advanced civilization in a striking way.

Sam Blodgett was 83 years of age. His life from the time when he was first able to pull a trigger until the hordes of the army of progress had stamped out the dangers of the trail was one of action. He was one of those picturesque, dare devil characters famous in frontier days. Like actors famous in frontier days. Like William F. Cody (Buffalo Bill), Kit Carson and General Custer, whith whom he fought against savage redmen in the 60's and 70's.

Millicent Blodgett/Orville Blodgett Vermont

I am getting nowhere on my own. I have a family Bible that lists my Great-Grandmother as Millicent Blodgett born May 23, 1854 in Vermont. In the column of Great-Great Grand parents I have Orville Blogett Vermont married to M Chilton also of Vermont.
Millicent Blodgett married William C. Blissett of Dodge County, Wisconsin Both died in Wisconsin (Oshkosh) Millicent in 1936 and William in 1928.
Mostly I'm hunting for Orville from Vermont and M. Chilton.
The family has used Orville for first or middle names. My Grandfathers name was David Orville Blissett.
Any help would be great. Besides the family Bible the only possible info is 1870 Census that has a Millicent Blodgett living in Beaver Dam Wisconsin (Birth Place Vermont) She does not appear to be living with family at age 17,
Thanks
Jone Blissett Johnson

There was a Blodgett reported as Killed in Action on a recent posting of Army Times. Does anyone out there know who or how? My son is in the infantry at Fort Drum, recently back from Afghanistan, and saw the news.

The Army rolls are filled with patriots from our family. We wish to honor those who have gone before us and their families.

James M. Blodgett WW2 Army Airborne

Hi. I am looking for him or his family. (He would have been born probably between 1915 and 1926)

He was in the Army Airborne during WW2. He started out in the 17th Airborne Division/139th Engineer Battalion and possibly transferred to the 101st or the 82nd Airborne when the 17th was disbanded in 1945. He would have been in the Engineer Battalion, HQ & S or medical.

I am in the process of writing a book about the Battalion and would like to have him contact me. If he is no longer with us, I'd like the family to touch base with me to give me a summary of his life since the service. This also will be in the book.

I have also succeeded in getting these WW2 Heros to touch base again with their comrades after not seeing each other for almost 60 years. Their reunions have been wonderful.

This project is so important because 17 million personnel files were destroyed in the 1973 file in St. Louis MO. I want to make sure that these men will never be forgotten and will be put in the history books for generations to come!

Thank you for all leads to help me on this tribute to our WW2 Heros.

Sincerely,
Tammy Paynter

August BLODGETT lived with Alfred and Catherine LeClair in Lynn, MA on the 1920 census. He is shown as a cousin, of whom I do not know. He was born in Dedham, MA., 17 AUG 1892. I can find his WW1` Registration Card in 1917 but have been unable to connect him with his parents in the 1910 census when he was 17. I am trying to determine on which side of the family LeClair, husband or wife he is the cousin. He died in 1967 in New York State and had a SIN # issued by the State of New Hampshire.

I am trying to locate anyone that has access to the Blodgett's Ten Generations CD'. If you have the cd's and are able to get the files copied to paper I need a section of it. I need pages 300 to 400 in order to complete the book. I took my cd's to a printer and they cannot access that section which I stated above. If someone is able to send (by email) to me I would like to speak to them. I have an e-mail address that you can send it to so it can be added to the rest of the pages...so I can get on with my things. If anyone cn help me please e-mail me at infoskr4u@aol.com and thank-you ahead of time for your time in this situation.
