Hildreth:
HKB's mother, Augusta Kennedy (Bloodgood)(1833-1862)--your great-great grandmother--was the sister of Clarissa Kennedy (Aikin) (1826-1877, my great-great grandmother. That makes us 3d cousins, once removed. I have a great deal of information about Augusta's family which may be of interest to you and quite a bit that I have amassed regarding descendants and antecedents of HKB.I have carried on an extensive correspondence over the past 8-9 years with our mutual cousin, Melanie Campbell (Sharp-Bolster.)
As you probably know, Matthias Bloodgood's NY family maintained an office of their business in Mobile before the Civil War and Matthias ran that office from the early 1850's until the outbreak of the war. He married Augusta after she returned from finishing school in New Haven, CT (I have photo-copies of bills sent from the school to the estate of Augusta's father, Josua Kennedy, in the late 1840's which will be of interest to you.) HKB was the fourth child of Matthias and Augusta. His three siblings all died between 1860 and 1863--two within the same week of diphtheria. They are buried alongside Augusta in historic old Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile. A marker for her parents, Joshua Kennedy and Susan Kitchen, is nearby--but erected only in the 1970s by me and other descendants. I have visited the cemetery many times and have a photo of Augusta's monument--it's about 8' high and still in pretty good shape after almost 150 years.
Matthias seems to have been caught between his northern upbringing and his transplanted southern roots so he wound up going to England as a purchasing agent for the Confederacy not long after the death of Augusta. I located a website where you can see a copy--in Matthias' own handwriting--of his petition to President Andrew Johnson for a pardon. It costs about $12 to get a photocopy. Melanie has one I think.
The Mobile probate court archives contain literally hundreds of documents pertaining to the dealings of your GGG-GF, Joshua Kennedy (1777-1838)who came to Mobile from Abbeville, SC via No.GA around 1805 with two brothers,Dr. William E. and Major Joseph Pulaski Kennedy.Joshua was graduated from Yale in 1802. At the time of his death, he owned about 1/4 of all the real estate in the city of Mobile and a half interest in the Alabama dock system there which he developed. He also owned two schooners and about 75,000 acres in Baldwin Co.His estate took more than 15 years to probate owing to a variety of reasons including the youth of his children at the time of his death (Augusta was only 5 when he died, for example), numerous law suits between his heirs and those of his siblings; and assorted court cases, two of which reached the US supreme court.
I have a lot of this material if you would like me to copy it for you along with Joshua's will, and that of Joshua's father, Dr. Joseph Kennedy.
New Orleans is so close that you might find it interesting to visit Magnolia Cemetery one weekend.
I live in northern AZ (Sedona) and I am in Phoenix most of the time for the next couple of months and my computer files and hard copy document file are not readily accessible but I will be there intermittently and can fill in the blanks for you with what I know of HKB and the Kennedys. If you wish to contact me, do so directly at cambintl@aol.com

Justus (Judd) White

Hello. It's always good to meet another member of the BLOODGOOD family. Yes, I'm still interested in the family, but the only information I have on this line is what I found in the Newspaper and posted here. Maybe by you posting this answer someone will come forward that has more information to add.
Kind regards,
-Marge Mack-

Your email did notwork.
I would be delighted to receive the information you indicated. My Great Grandfather, Loren Elbert Bloodgood (1850-1934), lived with Abraham Van Buren Bloodgood (1835-1899)when he attended an academy in Vinton, IA. Loren was the son of Abram Sanford Bloodgood (1821-1908) and Sarah Williams (1823-1857). The Abram you have info on was Loren's Grandfather's brother's son Abram Van Buren Bloodgood who was married to Maida Sarah Rose (1838-aft.1899)who went by the name Sarah in the 1880 census. They had a daughter Rose Maida Bloodgood. I would like to share info. My e-mail is roglolly@gmail.com

I just looked at this message board and find you are related to Abram and Sarah Bloodgood. Abram (V is what seems to be listed on some census) was a minister after serving in the war. I'm sure you have the same census -records I have but I show them in New York in 1860, Benton Co IA in 1870, in Spencer (Clay Co, IA) in 1880, 1885 only Sarah is listed in Sioux Rapids (Buena Vista Co, IA - neighbor to Clay Co), 1900 Sarah and daughter Rose are in Benton Co again, 1910 only Rose is in Benton, 1920 Rose age 60 is in Cherokee IA.

I have some records that you may not have access to. Sometime in the 1870-1880 Abram made his way from Webster City, IA (where he had been a minister) through Fort Dodge IA on his way to the Sioux Rapids, Spencer area. There are several articles in the Fort Dodge newspaper of the time speaking of him and there is a Centenniel book on Sioux Rapids that mentions him. I also found an article in the Webster City genealogical libray mentioning his death. Please e-mail me if you would like scanned copies of these records. my e-mail is "iowacousin@yahoo.com" and I would like to share info with you.

Yes, I still have the album. My hope is to reunite it with a direct descendant of the people pictured in it.

I descend from Daniel Bloodgood who emmigrated from either New York or New Jersey to Missouri about 1850. My line is through his son, Pete Bloodgood, and then through Pete's daughter, Aggie (Bloodgood) Tolbert/Burditt.

You can contact me directly at: randylee@missvalley.com

If you still have this album I would be very interested.
Abram Sanford Bloodgood and Sarah L. (Williams) Bloodgood are my Great Great Grandparents.
Sorry I've taken so long to see your reply. I guess I was waiting for a notification that someone had replied to my post and I haven't checked this thread for some time.

Yes, I do still have the album. Do any of the names I mentioned seem to match up with your family? I really do want to get the album back to the proper Bloodgood family. Get back to me and we can compare names.

Yes, we have communicated before. For some reason, I thought you had Book 1. Is Book 2 an only book...not in any library? I have just recently hooked up my Bloodgood line to this part of the family and wish I could see the book. Of course, I have no idea if it would show me anything. This genealogy is a complex hobby, isn't it?

Where do you live? I am going to a Genealogy conference in Burbank, California at the end of June. It would be interesting to meet some other family members there. Lois

Marge - Thanks so much for your posts of items from the NY Times concerning the death of John Henry Bloodgood, the marriage of John Henry Bloodgood/Elizabeth Wood, and the death of Sarah M Starr. Elizabeth Wood Bloodgood and Sarah Maria Wood Starr were sisters of my maternal ancestor Frederick Wood (1815-1877). In reviewing the Stanton Family Genealogy by Dr. William Austin Macy at the NY Genealogical and Biographical Society this week, I discovered that John Henry Bloodgood was descended from the same Stanton I am descended from on my mom's side, George Stanton (1733-1809). A small genealogy world we live in. David W B

I went to the Cincinnati Public Library today and copied two pages from a book titled "Records from the New York Reformed Dutch Church" and both records are baptisms of Arientje Bloodgood and Ibel Bloodgood. They are the children of Frans Jans Bloodgood (bloodgood has alot of variants) and Lysbeth Jans. If anyone needs these two pages email me at xoxo_pr0ud@yahoo.com and I'll email them to you. They're not the actual baptism records but they do have the date of the baptism, witnesses and the parents It's in Dutch so I'm not sure what some of the words mean. They were more pages that containted baptisms relating to Frans and I'm going back to the library at a later date to copy those. So if you want those to I'll email them to you when I have them.
