Inez Bloom,
Inez Bloom, age 97, of Ypsilanti, Mich.
and formerly of Erie CO, PA,
quietly passed away on April 7, 2009, with her only son and daughter-in-law, Les and Dianne Bloom, by her side after a short battle with pneumonia. She had been recuperating from a fall three months ago that resulted in a hairline pelvic fracture. She was born on February 29, 1912, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Saft.
She had two sisters, Sylvia and Ruth and one brother Frank, all of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Academy High School in Erie, Pa. in 1930. She married Burton Bloom in 1938 and resided with him in Youngstown, Ohio for several years until they moved back to Erie where they spent many happy years raising their son and devoting themselves to nurturing a close-knit family. She was an avid mahjong player throughout this period of her life, playing with friends at least once a week. She was also appreciated by many for her baking talents. To that end, she even once partnered with a friend in a short-lived catering business. After her husband’s death in 1974, Inez moved in with her sister Sylvia in Erie and continued a very active life. She was a board member of the Jewish Center Sisterhood organization and served on many different committees. She and Sylvia loved to travel and took many vacations visiting friends and touring the United States from Florida to California. After her sister passed away in 2004, Inez moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She loved music, particularly opera. She could instantly identify any aria. She loved eating out and watching movies. She loved being as active as she could be, given that her health conditions started to catch up with her. Even though she had several health issues over the years that might have sidelined a less courageous person, she always bounced back and kept on going. Because of this, some friends likened her to the Energizer Bunny. She was a people person. She had a way of making friends and keeping them as friends. She always tried to bring a smile to everyone’s face. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She will be deeply missed by all who have come in contact with her. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, April 13, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the CBS Cemetery, West 26th at Asbury . The Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Avenue, is in charge of arrangements. Send condolences at www.Burtonfuneralhome.com.
