Can anyone steer me in the right direction for BLOOMs/BLUMEs from CA, ca 1904?

Trying to locate a BLOOM/BLUME family from the SF/Oakland area, who had a son named Joseph, b. around Jan. 1904; bapt. Oakland Dec. 1909.
Bapt. Sponsors: Walter Ross; Irene Redmond. St. Elizabeth's, Oakland, CA

It is believed that this family--with the exception of their 2-year old baby, Joseph--all perished in the 1906 earthquakes/fire.

Any leads or help greatly appreciated.

Nicholas

Looking for info on Emmett Bloom.....
Emmett is my grandfather. All I know about this side of the family is that Emmett may have been in Washington state at the time of his death. He was just 50 years old when he passed. I am guessing he passed away around 1956- well before I was born. His wife was Edna M. Bloom (Dickinson) from Idaho.

Ukrainian/Russian Bloom family in Boston area

I am researching my father's ancestors and am trying to find more information about the Blooms. These are the names of the people I am researching at the moment: Pessie/Bessie Bloom, Louis Bloom, Harry Bloom, Sophie Bloom (other possible names: Sonya, Sarah, Sukha, Sorka).

My father's great aunt Pessie Bloom was born Pessie Nemerovsky in the Ukraine. The family came from an area called Kamenka in the Dnepr River area. Kiev is usually listed as the place of birth for relatives from this area. Ukraine was part of Russia during this period, and all documents say that my family comes from Russia. They spoke Yiddish, but some documents list Hebrew as their language.

Pessie and her husband Louis Bloom settled in Boston sometime before 1913 (I think in 1912). In 1913 Pessie's brother-in-law Nachman Belostotsky came over and stayed with them. Soon his wife (Pessie's sister) Basheva or Bashava and their 6 children followed. I have heard that they also brought a cousin with them.

Nachman changed his first name to Nathan and the children all anglicized their first names as well, but as far as I know Basheva never changed her name (although it is possible that she did). They eventually changed their last name to Bell.

I found records of a family that I believe is this Bloom family. It lists the wife's name as Bessie, which I suppose could be the anglicized name she chose (though I believe the family still called her Pessie). I found 1920 and 1930 census records, a naturalization record for Louis Bloom, and WWI and WWII draft registration cards for Louis Bloom.

Based on these documents, here is what I know.

Bloom family:
address in 1917 or 18: 86 Phillips St. Boston
lived in rented home in Boston, Ward 8 in 1920
lived in Boston, Ward 12 in 1930
address in 1939 and 1942: 105 Homestead St. Roxbury

Louis Bloom: born in Kiev, Russia 5 Feb 1882
year of immigration 1912
naturalization: 6 Nov 1939
occupation in 1920 and 1930: fruit peddler

Pessie/Bessie Bloom: born in Kiev, Russia
year of immigration 1912

Sonny/Sarnia Bloom: born in Kiev, Russia in 1906
year of immigration 1912
occupation in 1930:bookkeeper

Etta Bloom: born in Kiev, Russia in 1908
year of immigration 1912
occupation in 1930: assistant in doctor's office

Rebecca Bloom: born in Kiev, Russia in 1910
year of immigration 1912

Harry Bloom: born in Massachusetts in 1913

I am also looking for information about my great grandfather David Povolotsky/Pollard's sister. I think her name was Sophie Bloom, and I am not sure whether the Bloom she married was a relation of Louis and Pessie's. She may be the same person as the Bell's cousin Sarah who came over with them in 1914, but I have also heard that she came earlier. I think that she was older than David, who was born in 1895. I think her given name was Sukha or Sorka. I've been told that she may also have gone by Sonya. I believe she had two daughters and a son, and one of the daughters may have been named Rose.

I found a family meeting this description, but a marriage document for the daughter Rose lists the mother's name as Sophie Kaplan. I am not sure what to make of this.

If anyone has any information about any of the people I have mentioned, or knows how I may be able to find more about them, please let me know.

Anyone have info on Zoe Bloom Bauman? She was a cousin of my dad's (Harvey Kline) through his mother Alice Bloom Kline. Zoe lived in Harrisburg, PA, and had a savant son named Wilmer. I remember visiting them many years ago. She was a single mom (don't know what happened to husband) and Zoe was raising Wilmer alone -- not an easy job. I often wonder what happened to Wilmer, as I'm sure Zoe must have passed away long ago. Any info would be appreciated. -Ruth

(And/or anyone interested
in Matthew Bloom)
There is a grave for Matthew Bloom & his 2 grandsons
in a pasture near Minden, Louisiana in Webster Parish.
He died around 1842. His marker reads:
"HERE I LAY MY
BURDEN DOWN
CHANGED THE CROSS
INTO THE CROWN."
There is a cross just about his name.
My friend and I have become very interested in Matthew
and his two grandsons who have rested behind her home
in this pasture for one hundred and fifty plus years now.
Is anyone out there interested? We would like to know
more about this family and what happened to his wife and
the rest of his family. We just know someone out there is
probably looking for Matthew and his grandsons. I wonder
if Peggy and Sharon are interested?
Thanks,
Sherry

His children were: Bessie or Breina (spelling?), David, Samuel, Manna, Jacob or Jake, Esther and Rose. They came to Superior WI. then to Hibbing MN. I have found records on them in the towns but cannot find ANYTHING on what ship they came from, etc. Bessie was my Grandmas mother.

Blooms in Philadelphia

There were quite a number of Blooms and their descendants in Philadelphia who were active in Baptist Temple and founding of Temple University. A group of us are planning a Baptist Temple Reunion.

On Friday February 15, 2008 a group of 20 people associated with the Grace Baptist Church/The Baptist Temple met to discuss the restoration of the Baptist Temple Building by Temple University. The group included current and former church members as well a trustee of the Chapel of the Four Chaplains, and Pastor George Hawthorne.

They discussed their shared memories about growing up in a community of faith. It was noted that most of them still had the Bibles they received when they attended Sunday School at Baptist Temple. Another observation was learning about the “Peace that Passeth Understanding” by looking at the faces of the Four Chaplains in the large picture in the Chapel. The conclusion was that all were connected by their shared experience of learning about faith in Jesus.

As part of the meeting they decided that their shared purpose would be the following:
1)	Maintain fellowship with current and former church members
2)	Contribution to hallmark the building's Christian past
3)	Historic preservation

Therefore, a reunion is being planned for Sunday May 4, 2008 at the Grace Baptist Church in Blue Bell. This will be a time to worship and fellowship together. Another reunion will take place this summer at the site of the former Temple Camp in Collegeville. All current and former members of the church will be invited to participate.

The group would also like to fund raise for the restoration of a Stained Glass window to Honor the Members of the Grace Baptist Church: Past, Present, & Future. In keeping with the story of Hattie Mae Wyatt – contributions would be appreciated starting with 57 cents on up.

The evening ended with prayer and a promise to meet again.
For more information and/or to attend the reunion contact:Herb Haigh herbhaigh@mindspring.com

Marvin Bloom in Maryland

I'm looking for information/relations on/of Marvin Lawrence Bloom of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Marvin was born around 1929 in Baltimore. His parents were Joseph and Rosline Kwiatkowski. From reading other boards I've learned that many Kwaitkowski's changed their name to Bloom because Kwiatkowski is Polish for Bloom. Marvin's mother Rosline was the sister of my gggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Lind. Other siblings were Henry, Caroline (Carrie), Joseph and Marie.

Hoping to hear from someone.

I'm trying to find any info on my grandfather Daniel Alfred Bloom born abt 1893, last lived in the Logan in Penn. when he died. He was married to Emily Boyer (born 1899) who died August 1979 and buried in Centralia at Odd Fellows Cemetery. After Daniels death, Emily moved to Mt Carmel, Pa. One of their 7 kids was my father, Edward Daniel (born 1926). I believe my grandfather died (shot himself) in the 1940's. I have a 1942 WWII registration card, so I know it was after 1942. Anyone with any knowledge of his year of death or anything else would be appreciated. Dolores

Bloom was originally "Blum" in Germany, although when my ancestors came to America I have no idea.... my grandfather is Guy T. Bloom who lives in New Florence, PA.... I work at Merrill Lynch in New York City with Jonathan Bloom, although I am unsure if we are related in any way.... alright, I'm rambling... in any case, if you have any info, e-mail me at tbloom@exchange.ml.com.....

MO-MD-PA/NJ Bloom Family

My wife is descended from Peter Bloom who was born about 1787 in Maryland. He moved with his sister Elizabeth to the Ste. Genevieve, MO area in 1797. Elizabeth (born about 1770) was married to Bartholomew Burtcher in Baltimore in 1795. (For a great web site on the "colorful" Burtcher family which has some information on Peter Bloom, see http://www.burtcher.com.) However, I can find absolutely no information on Peter/Elizabeth Bloom's parents. It is certain that the parents did not come to Missouri as Peter and Elizabeth were the first Blooms in MO. I have read through the posts in this forum and believe they may be descendents of Johann Peter Bloom from Germany. Any thoughts/information appreciated.

Jacob Blumen/Bloom

Jacob Bluman was the father of my great grandmother Stella Bluman. Her mother’s name was Elizabeth Courtlearn or Countlearn (hard to read writing). They were all born in Poland and were Jewish. Stella came to Bayonne, NJ in the 1890's and married Thomas Godlewski. She converted to Catholicism and moved to Finderne, NJ. She had a sister Genevieve Bluman Kolocowski, who also converted to Catholicism and lived in Bayonne.

Because she converted to Catholicism, her family disowned her. She had a brother, rumored to live in Philadelphia, and may have gone by the last name Bloom.

Any information would be helpful on the Blumans!!!!!!!!!!!
Bloom Family Cemetery - Coffman, MO

Is anyone familiar with the Bloom Family Cemetery near Coffman, Ste. Genevieve Co, MO? It is just east of Coffman, MO, going out St. Highway B, right on Madden Creek Road and then not too far past the intersection of Saline Creek Road. (Mapquest refers to road after the intersection as Madden Creek Road, Google Earth referes to it as Saline Creek Road.) The cemetery is apparently across the road from the Salem Cemetery. Neither of these cemeteries appear on the Ste. Gen geneology cemetaries list. I found reference to it on the following web site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mackley/CemPages.ht... and then "Map 1." The Bloom Cemetery is #54 and the Salem Cemetery is #55 on the map.

I have just discovered that my Jessie Hannigan Rogers' daughter, Mary Elizabeth, was married to George Ray Bloom of Detroit, Michigan. He is the son of Samuel Bloom and Emma Kaiser.
Jessie Hannigan, d/o Richard Hannigan and Rebecca Smith, was born 1861 in Ontario. Her first marriage was to John Rogers, and they had one daughter Mary, born 29 May 1881, in Toronto. Mary "Mayme" Rogers married George Ray Bloom 14 Feb. 1911 in Windsor. They had one daughter Ruth about 1913. I have been researching the Hannigan family and would like to connect with anyone researching this Bloom family. Thanks
Dorothy Hiltz

We are looking for Robert James Bloom, Sr. of Bucks or Berk County, PA. His son has not seen him since around the age of six or seven. He was married to Delcey Walk from Cherokee, North Carolina and Robert James Walk (formerly Bloom, Jr.) was born in Pennsylvania. The original birth records for Robert Jr. were destroyed in a fire and all other record list him as Robert James Walk. We would appreciate any information that you might be able to provide about his father or his father's family.

Barbara Bloom Henry Roush

Would like to know if anyone has encountered a Barbara Bloom or Blum that married a Henry Roush. Barbara's surname was listed as Bloom by previous genealogists, but in checking husband Henry Roush War of 1812 records, we find her name listed as Pfantzler. Trying to determine whether Bloom was a previous married name, her middle name, or whether Pfantzler was a later marriage. Perhaps her middle name after her mother's surname? We have also encountered the name as Blum rather than Bloom. Any help would be appreciated to unravel this mystery.

Samuel Bloom was on leave from civil war October 31, 1864, absence for death. I am trying to locate a Bloom/Blume family member who died around October 31, 1864.
Samuel was born abt. 1826-1830 in MD or PA and I am trying to locate his parents and siblings. He is listed in the 1870 Clear Springs, Washington Co., MD census and the 1880 Falling Waters, Berkeley Co., WV census. He listed his occupation as miller on civil war documents. There is a Samuel Bloom listed as a miller in the 1850 Carroll Co., MD census and I believe it is the same Samuel Bloom.

A. W. JONES Dies at Son's in Omaha [30 Dec 1929]

A.W. JONES, 79, a resident of Shenandoah 47 years died at 8:30 o'clock Sunday night at the thome of his son, Hodge JONES, Omaha where he had gone to spend Christmas.

A.W. JONES, pioneer grocer who lived in Shenandoah more than 47 years died unexpectedly at 8:30 o'clock Sunday night at the home of his son in Omaha where he had gone for the holidays. Mr. JONES was taken ill Friday night. His son, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. JONES with whom he had been making his home was called to Omaha by his illness.
Mr. JONES was born in Lynn County, November 25, 1869 [note: date is unclear--I might have it wrong]. He was the second son of Lysander and Mary JONES, one of five brothers and sisters of whom he is survived by one brother, E.R. JONES now in Long Beach, Calif.

Moving to Shenandoah in 1881 he went into the grocery business with his brother. Of recent years he had been employed in the office of the Shenandoah Lumber Company but had not been working for several months. He was married Christmas eve 1886 to Miss Hola A. BLOOM, school teacher at Waterloo. Besides his brother he is survived by his wife and two sons. Mr. JONES was a member of the Presbyterian church in Shenandoah having transferred his membership to the Presbyterian church shortly after his arrival here.

The funeral services will be held from the church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, December 31. Interment will be at Rose Hills Cemetery.

In tribute to Mr. JONES, the offices of the Shenandoah Lumber company will close from 1:30 to 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, during the funeral services.

This is from the Shenandoah [Iowa] Evening Sentinel, Monday, 30 Dec 1929, page 1.

This is not my family. If it is your family, please email me and I'll send you a photocopy.

Laura Gray
Henry Bloom, Barbour county Alabama

I need information on the siblings of Henry Bloom b. March 1864 in Georgia. I do not know when he moved to Alabama but he is listed on the 1900 Barbour county, Alabama census in Eufaula with his wife who is listed as Stern on the census. I have since found out that Stern is her maiden name and her given name was Henrietta. He is next door to Jake Stern whose wife is Hannah, Henrietta's sister. Both Henry and Jake are listed as merchants in Eufaula. I have reason to believe that my g-grandmother may have been a sister of Henry Bloom. I found that the Sterns migrated from New York to Pike county, Georgia and then to Barbour county, so Henry may have come in with them. If anyone has any information on this family I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Gail Ellis, Kissimmee, Fla.

I am looking for information on a D.C. Bloom. While metal detecting in Nevada my brother in law found a Chauffeurs badge with the name D.C. Bloom on it, he would like to return it to his family. The only facts he has, D.C. Bloom, Army & Patrero Street, San Francisco, Calif, The year is 1907. This info comes from that years State of Calif Register of Chauffeurs. This may mean that he was a taxi, limo or truck driver. Also known is that he was in Rochester, Nev between the years of 1907-1917, he could of stayed a driver or became a miner, If you have any info on this person please contact me. Thanks
