Yes it would seem that the Bloomers married into the fox (or Faux) family a few times. There was also an earlier Edward Bloomer who also married an Elizabeth Fox in 1827 which was in the Church of Ireland records. I purchased a copy of this from the Cavan Library (they have a genealogical section)when I visited there in 2008. I stayed at Canningstown at the Bridge Guest House and walked all over the Knock bride Parish including the Cullies area.

Descendents of Joseph and Cathryn Ford Bloomer

I am desperately looking for any descendents of Joseph and Cathryn Ford Bloomer. This is any African American lineage with roots in Charleston South Carolina. Cathryn was my Grandaunt; She was my grandmother's sister. My grandmother was Margaret Ford Foxworth. I believe that Aunt Cathryn and Uncle Joe were married in 1927. Their first child was a son named Joseph Jr and I believe Joe Jr was born in 1928. Their second child was a daughter, Jestine and was born in 1929. Their 3rd child was a daughter, Juanita and was born in 1932. Sometime between the birth of Jestine's and Juanita I believe that Aunt Cathryn and Uncle Joe relocated to NYC. After which their were 5 additional children born to their union; another daughter, Dorothy (Dottie), a set of twins: David and Thaddeus, a son named Danny and the last son, Ronnie. I am not sure about Uncle Joe but I know that my aunt Cathryn died in the 1960s...Joe Jr and Dorothy are definitely deceased....Dorothy committed suicide in NYC and Joe Jr died of an overdose. I also believe I have found a death certificate for Juanita....the death certificate lists the date of death in 1999 in the Bronx.....we think she had a daughter that may still be alive.....This is a missing link to the Ford family but I believe we can close this link by re-connecting with the surviving off-spring. Thaddeus may have had several children....if any of this sounds familiar to you please contact me.....I believe the descendents, if any, should all still be in NYC.

Hi, My great grandfather's name was Hugh Bloomer and his death certificate shows his father's name as Hugh Bloomer and his mother as Margaret Fox. My gr grandfather Hugh was born in 1838 in Tyrone and he married a Winifred Byrne in 1864. The Irish Flaxgrowers register of 1796 shows an Edward Bloomer in Tyrone and a Hugh Bloomer in Cavan. We must surely have some connection here with the Bloomers and the Foxs.

Hi Linda,
I realise that your thread is now a few years old but I am fairly new to the search and have only just come across this opportunity to collaborate.

My limited research so far links me directly with the Bloomer / Homer clan from Cradley. My great great great grandparents were Josiah and Phoebe, their grandson Amos and his brother Ezra moved from Cradley to Pontypridd in South Wales to find work in the Newbridge Chainworks in the 1880's. Although between the two of them they seem to have fathered 16 children the Bloomer name has, with the exception of my immediate family, all but disappeared from South Wales. If you are still interested, I am more than happy to share access to my information. Regards Paul

Help, sorry to get into this so late, but I am looking at information from Lucinda Muncy's side about Charles killing his Uncle Oregon. I understand that Charles took his mother's last name and his grandfather's first name. Charles (or Henderson) didn't have a grandfather Charles (unless Joseph also had Charles as a name) and there is no Henderson listed under the children of Elizabeth Ann Bloomer and Samuel Robinett.

My grandfather thought highly of Charles and I need to get this straight before smearing Charles' name.

My email address is dakeppler@gmail.com if you could send me info it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
.e

Edward BLOOMER, Canan and Waterford Counties, Ireland

Hi all,

The recent availability of the 1901 Ireland census has enabled me to go back a generation from my husband's great-grandmother, who was given on his grandmother's birth certificate as Matilda Kate BLOOMER. From the 1911 census, where she is living with her husband and daughter, I know that Matilda was born around 1878 in Cavan County. This allowed me to go back to 1901, where Matilda was living in Waterford County (where her future daughter was born) with her widowed mother Elizabeth, brother Thomas, and future adoptive brother James Henry Cooke.

Based on this, I believe that my Matilda Kate BLOOMER is the same person as Catherine Matilda BLOOMER, daughter of Edward BLOOMER and Elizabeth FAUX, born 29 June 1877 in Cullies, County Cavan, Ireland. Various other birth records for children of this couple reveal siblings of Matilda: Mary Anne (1869 in Shercock, Cavan), Thomas (1871 in Shercock, Cavan - a perfect match for Matilda's brother Thomas who shows up on the 1901 census with her), Elizabeth (1872 in Shercock, Cavan), Mary Jane (1873 in Shercock, Cavan), and Eleanor (1875 in Shercock, Cavan). Matilda's mother was usually recorded as Elizabeth FOX, but also as Elisabeth FAUX and Eliza FOX; and census records give her year of birth around 1841/2. According to the civil registration index, Edward and Elizabeth were married in 1869, Bailieborough, Cavan. Also according to the civil registration index, it looks like Edward died in early 1901 (Kilmacthomas, Waterford) and was born around 1837.

In order to go back any further, I will be ordering Edward and Elizabeth's marriage certificate to find out the name of Edward's father. But in the meantime, I've been doing some Googling, and have discovered that BLOOMER is not a very common surname, and that if Edward was from Cavan County, it's likely that he is descended from James Bloomer and Martha Greenwood. I have no documentation yet that Edward was actually born in Cavan, but it seems likely.

Anyone out there have any connections with this Cavan County BLOOMER family?

Hello, my name is Margaret Bloomer, was born in 1959 and I live in London. My family lives in the south-east of England - although originally, we were from Staffordshire. As the Bloomer name is not common, the chances that we are related is quite likely. We may have some family history and maybe we can assist each other in tracing this ancestry....

i look forward to hearing from you.

Margaret Bloomer

Re: Robert Bloomer

Hello Judi. I think the first Robert Bloomer married Rachel Hart (who was related to the Bullis family as Philip Bullis of Charlestown, Mass Bay Colony married Rachel's sister, Judith Hart). Robert's origins are mysterious. I suspect he may have been of Irish heritage, and was "kidnapped" from somewhere in Ulster like many other Irish youths in order to prepare for the Plantations, brought to England, and then to Salem, Mass Bay Colony. But who knows. I suppose a y-DNA analysis of direct paternal line descendants could help reveal the mystery of his origins.

In any event, Robert had a son, Robert who married Sarah Ferris. It may be that this couple are the parents of Jane (Bloomer) Ogden, wife of Michael Ogden. This Robert had a son Robert who married twice, first to Elizabeth Sutton, and second to Elizabeth Shute.

I also have Ogden ancestry. I descend from Michael Ogden's brother William Ogden who settled in North Castle, NY. Our branch came to New Brunswick after the Revolution and settled near Sackville. Some of Michael and Jane (Bloomer) Odgen's descendants also came to New Brunswick and settled in Kings County.

Michael Ogden was a son of Jonathan and Susannah (Dunscombe) Ogden, and grandson of John and Judith (Budd) Ogden from whom I also descend another time via daughter Elizabeth Ogden who married Joseph Purdy.
