A Conrad Bloss from Northampton Co, PA fought and most likely died in the Revolutionary War at Long Island, NY in Aug of 1776. Many genealogy works of the Bloss family show that this is the same Conrad who was born in Germany, came to US on the Francis and Elizabeth in 1742 and became constable of Heidelburg Twp, Northampton (now Lehigh) Co, PA.
According to the Langenselbold, Germany records compiled by Annette Burgert, Johann Conrad Bloss who emigrated in 1742 was born there 5 Jan 1718. This would have made him over 58 years old in Aug of 1776. Those same records show that his brother Peter who came to the US in 1766 had a son named Conrad who was born 11 May 1755. This Conrad Bloss would have been 21 years old in 1776, a far more likely line soldier. I have not been able to find evidence of this Conrad or his family in the US to support or disprove this
possibility.
To complicate matters just a little farther we have the son of Conrad 1718 who is also named Conrad - b. abt 1758. Can anyone show conclusively that it was this Conrad who had children Anna Maria, Maria Barbara, Jacob, Conrad, ?Anna Margaret and moved on to Luzerne County (I have not found his grave to check dates). Or could that have been Conrad the son of Peter? In which case it could have been the son of Conrad 1718 that lost his life in the war (would have been about 18 years old).
Does anyone have any information that would help prove which Conrad did what?
