Ethel (Blose) Catherman Ethel (Blose) Catherman, 99, a resident. of Grandview Manor in Erie, Pa., died Saturday, July 25,2009
She was born on May 2, 1910 in Gipsy, Indiana Co., Pa. the daughter of Frank and Maggie (Rairigh) Blose, both of whom died in 1943. Ethel was a graduate of the Montgomery Township High School Class of 1927. When she was younger, she assisted her older sisters during their postpartum periods. She also attended Indiana Normal School and worked for a leather factory in Indiana, Pa. Ethel was an avid letter writer. Her penmanship was still good, even in her later years. She also made miniature rocking chairs from clothespins. She enjoyed family activities and attended all the Maggie Buchanan Blose reunions to date. In September 2004, Ethel took a ride in a glider piloted by Ralph Kester at Dart Airport in N.Y. Her favorite outdoor. activity was playing miniature golf, especially the old putt putt courses. Ethel was married on March 22, 1941 to Charles Edward Catherman. They moved to the Erie area later that year. Charles passed away in 1964. She is survived by her two sons: Carmen Catherman and wife Suzanne and Duane Catherman and wife Susan, all of the Erie area; two grandsons: Ryan Catherman and wife Emily of Apex, N.C. and Brent Catherman of Harborcreek, Pa. and three granddaughters: Jennifer DiBacco and husband Tony of Fairview, Pa.; Jessica Munch and husband Fred of Lake City, Pa. and Kendra Catherman of Phoenix, Ariz. Also surviving are six great grandchildren: Daphne; Sammy and Max Catherman; Owen and Michael DiBacco and Madalynn Munch. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Mary (Blose) Stiver Lizotte Hapner; her brother, Alden "Dean" Blose and several half brothers and sisters: Walter Blose; Emery Buchanan; Don Buchanan; Lena Madill; Doll Rowley; Edith Wright; Daisy Shobert; Hazel Ryen and Gae Brickell. Friends will be received from Noon until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July, 29, 2009 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd., 18944 Rte. Hwy. E., Hillsdale, Indiana Co., Pa. where a 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 29, 2009 with Rev. Richard Moyer, pastor of the Community United Church in Erie, Pa. officiating. Interment will follow at the Montgomery Cemetery, Grant Twp., Indiana Co., Pa.
