Will of John Gray BLOUNT, deceased
I, John Gray BLOUNT of the town of Washington and county of Beaufort, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, desirous of disposing of my real and personal estate in such manner as to render the property of my children as nearly equal as possible, and at the same time to prevent my misunderstanding possible, among them, do make and order this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others by me made hereto fore. In the first place, I wish all my just debts to be paid as soon as possible, and to enable my executors to do so, they are hereby authorized and requested to sell any part of my estate, either real or personal, that they may think proper, and in any manner they may deem most to the interest of my estate. Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my grandson, William Blount RODMAN, his executors and administrators, a negro woman name Mary and all her children. Thirdly, I give unto my daughter Lucy Olivia BLOUNT, her executors and administrators, a negro girl named Lucinda. Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Harvy BLOUNT, his heirs and assigns, all the land I purchased of CEBOUR and wife, Samuel YOUNG, Thomas PRATHER, and John BONNER, near the town of Washington and bounded on one side by the publick road leading to Barth. Fifthly, as it is my wish that all my children shall inherit an equal part of my estate, it is my will and desire that my estate be divided by executors into six equal parts as near as may be, including this property which I have heretofore given to any or all of my children, estimating such property at its value at the time I gave it them. To my son Thomas H. BLOUNT, John Gray BLOUNT, and William Augustus BLOUNT, and to my daughters Lucy Olivia BLOUNT and Patsey Baker BLOUNT, I give and bequeath to each of them, their heirs, executors and administrators, one fifth part, and to my executors hereinafter named, their executors and assigns, the remaining one sixth part in trust that as soon as either William Blount RODMAN, Mary Marchia RODMAN or Mary Olivia RODMAN, the children of my daughter Polly Ann RODMAN, or the survivor or survivors of them, shall arrive at age, then the one sixth part so set apart of my estate so set apart among them or the survivor or survivors of them, their heirs and executors, and during their said minority they shall be educated and supported from the profits arising from the said share so allotted for their use as equally as may be, and if all of said children shall die before either of them comes of age, then the said one sixth part shall be equally divided to my surviving children, their heirs, executors and administrators. Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto William B. Rodman any balance he may owe me or stand charged in my books at my death. Lastly, I hereby authorize, make and appoint my three sons, Thomas H. BLOUNT, John G. Blount, and William A. BLOUNT, my only executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of March in the year of our Lord 1823.
