A few photos are posted on my ancestry public member tree - Crawfords of Metis QC Canada. All others and some maps are scanned. If you provide your e-mail address I would be pleased to forward them to you, along with some script pages about my journey there.
You will find the knapdalepeople website to be a vast source of info. Keep in mind that most of the place names are the names of farms - there are only a few villages/towns in North Knapdale. Included in the info is Gaelic surnames and present-day anglicized versions - as in McGuirmin and Blue.
It is/was difficult to get to Tayvallich. I went by train from Glasgow to Oban, and then an old friend drove me south to Tayvallich. Once you reach The Oib the road is only one-lane with oncoming/passing places every few miles. Tayvallich is a fashionable yachting destination - almost certain to have accomodation but check on that before you go - we were able to find a restaurant of sorts there. The road Tay. to Carsaig in less than a mile. The trail to Gleann Sabhail is about half way along it. We were able to drive about a mile north to (new) Ardnafadmore cottage and ruins of (old) Ardnafadmore. After that there is only a footpath. The lady living in the (new) cottage told us there were ruins of 10 or more crofts further up the glen, but no one knew who had lived there. Roy.
