BENJAMIN FRANKLIN CARTER and ELLEN BLUE DESCENDANTS

I'm trying to find descendants of Benjamin Franklin Carter and Ellen Blue who were married April 21, 1895, in Washington County, Florida (Book D, Page 53, listed on Washington County GenWeb site.) They had at least eight children from 1896 through 1916--Eva, Gresham David, Walter, Ethel, Irene, Buell F., Woodrow W., and Pauline. The family is in the 1920 Washington County, Florida census, but seems to "disappear" in 1930. I did find Gresham David Carter in the 1930 Caddo Parish, Louisiana census, but have not located any of the others in 1930.

If you have any information about this family after 1920, I would appreciate your sharing.

I would also like to know whether the Ellen Blue who Benjamin Franklin Carter married is by chance Hester Ellen Blue, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Blue and Adeline Augusta Miller. My "gut" feeling is that they are the same; however, I have no real proof.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
Appears in The Ravia Weekly, Friday, 7 October 1910, Johnston County, Oklahoma

Mysterious Death Near Harriburg

Duncan, Oklahoma - When the family of Alvin Blue returned to the house from the cotton field Monday at noon near Harrisburg, this county, they found his dead body lying on the floor with a shot gun by his side. An inquest was held and a verdict of suicide rendered. Later evidence was discovered that leads the officers to the belief that Blue was murdered, though there is no clue to the perpetrators.
Georgia Blue's

Unfortunately I don't know too much about my great grandfather but I do know his name was Julius Blue and he married a woman by the name of Victoria. My grandfather was one of I believe 23 children. According to my father, Rayford Blue Jr., his grandfather mentioned that he had brothers, several in fact. However, beyond that...he would never speak of his family or where he came from. As the story goes, Julius and his brother's may have been in some sort of trouble, and on the run from white men for some reason, and agreed to part company and never contact one another again, so that if one of them were caught, they would not be able to give up the other brothers. Rumor has it that they all went to different states, some possibly in North and South Carolina and maybe even up north to the Illinois area and beyond.

My brother actually attended college in SC and met a preacher there by the last name Blue who shared a similar story about his grandfather. According to my dad, there was a striking resemblance between Reverend Blue of SC's son and my brother who was attending college there. It was as if they could have been brother's, my dad said.

I also ran into a lady at the Atlanta Airport from Illinois with the same last name, Blue who also had a similar story about her grandfather; he showed up there with no real past and he was on the run for some reason but would never talk about where he came from either. If anyone knows anything else, please feel free to share.

Annetje Blaw/Abraham Ouke

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Sarah Ouke that is married to Roelof Van Houten is the same Sarah Ouke that is the daughter of Abraham Ouke & Annetje Blaw (or Blue)? Abraham & Annetje also had a daughter named Lea. I found this in the list of Baptisms of New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church 1731-1800. It makes it sound like Sara and Lea are sisters and their daughters:

1769 Jun 04; Jakob Losie, Lea Ouke; Jannetje; Roelof Van Houten & wife Sara Ouke

I'm not sure, though. Does anyone know if this is true or not?? Please let me know!!!

Blue/Browning family connection

I'm searching for a connection between the Blue and Browning families, likely in Pike or Bullock Co., Alabama. Both families were in GA prior to coming to Alabama and were perhaps both in NC prior to that.

My ggrandfather, Wiley Browning, was born in Pike Co. AL in 1854. He married Exa Ann Law in Bullock Co. prior to migrating to Texas. William Browning (born in GA in 1810), his wife, Nancy ??, and children William, John, Joseph, James, and Wiley were listed in the 1860 Census in Pike Co. Prior to her death my grandmother recalled a connection with the Blue family back in AL. Perhaps one of my grandmother's uncles married a Blue or maybe William's wife was a Blue.

Can anyone help make this connection?
Sheila

Hampshire Co., WV...Keziah m Lambert, Julia Ann m Flanagan

Can anyone tell me how these families are connected? I know this much, but still can't tie my data together:

1. John Flanagan m 1)Eleanor Rees 2)Julia Ann Blue. I show 1 daughter Eliza from his first marriage & 7 children from his second. One old history says his first wife was Julia Ann Hollenback, but the marriage record I found lists her name as Blue.

2. Keziah Blue m 1)John Lambert 2)Isaac Hollenback. I don't know if she had Lambert children. Isaac had children by his first wife, Susannah Johnson, but none with Keziah.

3. I have a deed from John B. Lease, wife Susan who migrated to Green Co., WI, dated 1854 selling their interest in the estate of John Lambert, deceased to John Flanagan. It states that they have legal standing based on the Will of John Lambert.

Was Susan a Lambert? Why would they sell to John Flanagan? Were Keziah & Julia Ann sisters? Who are the parents of John B. Lease? I show John Lambert d 1849, buried in Greenwall cemetery.

4. I have two other deeds from Isaac Hollenback & Kesiah, his wife, to Samuel Flanagan, William Flanagan, John Robert Flanagan, George Taylor Flanagan, & Mary Bell Flanagan, children of John Flanagan, and any other children said John Flanagan may have by his present wife for the consideration of natural affection they have for said children and $1.00. for all the lands of John Lambert, deceased.

There is a second deed with all the same people conveying livestock. These deeds are dated December 1858. They are explicit that only those named, or their heirs, are included, and no other persons whatsoever.

My list of children for John Flanagan has two additional children not listed, Keziah V. and Sarah.

Does anyone have the will of John Lambert? If John & Keziah had children, why would she leave out her children? Assuming that Keziah & Julia Ann were sisters, the Flanagan children would be her nieces & nephews. Are they sisters?

I'd appreciate any information anyone has to offer on any of these families that might bring some clarity to these families' relationships.

LouAnn in NC
She married David Purdun/Pardun (and several other spellings) about 1823. We don't know if her last name was spelled Blue or another spelling but her second son was Hosea Blue Purdun.
The Blue Family of Hampshire County,WV

I have no connection to the Blue family but found this and thought someone might want it.Taken from"History of Hampshire County, West Virginia From Its Earliest Settlement to the Present" By Hu Maxwell and H. L. Swisher Morgantown, West Virginia A. Brown Boughner, Printer 1897

"THE BLUE FAMILY,-- The Blue family were among the earliest settlers in Hampshire County, if not the very earliest. There were three brothers, John, Uriah, and Michael, the two latter making their homes near Shepherdstown, while John settled about five miles north of Romney, and was the founder ot the Blue family in Hampshire County. They came from New Jersey to Virgina early in the seventeenth century. They came to New Jersey from Holland in the early years of the colonization of the United States. They were, therefore, among the pioneers upon the Western Continent; and in all the generations since then they have been influential and useful citizens. The family, so far as their history can be traced in Holland, were in affluent circumstances.
The date at which John Blue came to Hampshire County is fixed partly by tradition and partly by family record. His son John (grandfather of the present John Blue) was twelve years old when he came with his father to Hampshire. He died in 1791, aged seventy-eight years. That would prove that he came to Hampshire in 1725. If such was the case, he was about eight or ten years earlier than the usually accepted earliest settlement of the South Branch Valley. This John Blue, who died in 1791, left his property by will to his wife and his thirteen children. The names of these children were as follows: Uriah, Abraham, John, Jacob, David, Michael, Garrett, William, Jesse, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Margaret."

There are also small write ups on James R. Blue (b1855), James P. Blue (b1833), J. H. Blue (b1847) and Michael Blue(b1819). I have these as well if anyone is interested.
Are there any African American Blue's out there?

My name is George Blue. My Grandfather was George A. Blue, born 1880 in Columbus Co., N.C. Died 1949 in Clinton, N.C. He was twice married, first to Pollie J. Lennon to that union were four children, Lette, Roosevelt , Willis l., (my father, 1909-1976), and Babie. The second wife was Lizzie Powell, and they had seven children, Emma, Henry, Elvie, Samuel Naomi, Dallas I., George H. All of the above are deceased. My Grandfather's Father was Hieram, and his Mother was Elizar. He had one Brother, Walter W. My Grandfather's, Grandmother was name Ann, and she was a slave own by farmer, Duncan Blue (b. 1816) whose wife was Annie Ray. His parents were Daniel and Margaret Ray. My Great Grandmother Ann had two other children, Mary J., and Marshall. I traced the (b. 1816) Duncan Blue family to his parents Duncan (b. 1741), and Margaret Graham. Dougal, and Mary McLaurin were Duncan's (b. 1741) parents. Duncan was born 1741 - North Kanapsdale, Argyleshire, Scotland, and passed away Sep 23, 1828 - Cumberland, North Carolina where it seems was place where the majority of black Blue's were born, and some of the white's. From the lineage of Duncan, (b. 1816) I found Malcolm Blue, and Sarah Smith parents to Dougal who were both born in North Kanapsdale, Argyleshire, Scotland in 1700, and 1710 respectively. At some point Dougal moved to Montgomery, Alabama, and passed away in 1836.

Mayflower Descendents

I am new to ancestry. As I grew up the story always swirled that my ancestor, Pricilla Mullins, came off of the Mayflower. I have purchased from Plymouth Plantation the past three generations from the time Pricilla left
England on the voyage. She met John Alden on the boat and
they married soon after. All of the other family members died in the first winter. She survived and had 10 - 11 children (no name on the 11th).
I don't know if anyone out there has done this search from the Mayflower. Do I begin with my name to begin with?? or with Pricilla Mullins??
Thanks - this is exciting.
MS Mullins

Leroy Blue - Colo/Missouri

Leroy Blue was born about 1906 in Colorado. His parents were Minnie Belle (Allen )Brittell of Nebraska and James H. Blue of Indiana. Minnie had been previously married to William Brittell. The family was living in Colorado in 1910, but by 1920 they were all living in Willow Springs, Howell County, Missouri. In 1920, Minnie was raising Leroy and her granddaughter, Lucille Barnes. James Blue must have died sometime after 1920, and by 1930 Minnie was remarried to a Williamson. She died in 1935. Unknown what became of Leroy Blue - hoping to hear from any descendant to exchange family information.

Hi,

I am researching Fannie Blue, my g.g.g.grandmother. She was born 11 Oct 1797 in Pa or possibly Ohio. She married Zadock Howard( b.@ 1795 in Greene Co.,Pa.), before 1820. They had 11 children together. She died 12 Mar 1838 in Morgan Co., Ohio. She is buried in the McConnelsville Cemetery. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sue Bolin

POW/MIA Korean War, BLUE

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave New Orleans, La. as his home of record. His mother was Mrs Mildred Smith of New Orleans. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: WILLIE EARL BLUE
Born: Jan. 23, 1931, Black
Date of loss: Aug. 31, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Blue family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Death of Clara (Blue) McMasters ~ born Knox County, Illinois

The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, May 13, 1909

CLARA BLUE, daughter of MR. and MRS. JOHN BLUE, pioneer residents of Lucas County, was born July 15th, 1841, in Knox County, near Galesburg, Ill. She was married to THOMAS MCMASTERS, in 1862, who departed this life twenty-one years ago. They were the parents of six children, three of whom are living and three have passed beyond the grave. Those who are left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother are CHARLES S., of Cincinnati; LULA B
and MRS. MAY BLANCHARD, of this city.

She had been in declining health for several months past, but was confined
to her bed only a few weeks. She died Sunday evening at 8 o'clock, death
resulting from cancer of the liver. MRS. MCMASTERS was an earnest Christian
and her life was spent in doing good for those about her.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock,
conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.S. McCullagh, of the Presbyterian Church,
and the remains interred in the Chariton Cemetery. On account of the
delayed arrival of her son CHARLES, the consignment did not take place until
Wednesday forenoon. Many friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert
July 12, 2005
iggy29@rnetinc.net
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm
posted at this site with Nancee's permission

I have a circa 1890 photo of a young man, about 20-25, that is labelled "Orville Blue, Drusilla's friend". Drusilla was my great grandmother, born 1775, raised and died in NE in and around Blair and Arlington in Washington County. I assume this Orville Blue might have been a young friend or suiter of hers while living in Blair.

I would be willing to give this photo to a member of his family.

Wm. Blue Court Doc. Pa. 1880

I recently picked up some old documents from Lycoming Co., Pa. and found some papers dealing with William Blue in 1880 Williamsport. He was a lumberman, born about 1840 in Penn., married to Ella born about 1842. They had a son William born in NY around 1868. The senior William was tried and found guilty of forgery and sentenced to 2 yrs. 6 months in the Eastern State Penitentiary Philadelphia. I wonder what happened to him after that. I am unable to locate him in census records. Amy ammurphy@voyager.net

James Blue/ Negro with Choctaw Wife in 1830

I beleive that James Blue in Mississippi on the Armstrong Roll 1830 chose to stay in Miss. with his sons and Choctaw Indian wife, When he died and I do not know if he was murdered, died from illness or what happened. but his wife Alihoke came to Indian Terr. With her son William. He was the youngest. I have the full history from the Dawes concerning William. I also found Sam, Nero, King, Jack and Tinnie Blue also came to Indian terr. with their families. I have the info from the Dawes on them also. THey were on the Choctaw and CHickasaw Freedman rolls. with Harriet Fraizier and the Colberts as owners. I have contected them as much as I can with the dawes roll and who owned them and the different wives they had as well as children. I have this in a Family tree software and would be happy to share with you. your email came back so I do not have any other way to get the info to you without you contacting me. !
I have the children and mothers, spouses and owners from the dawes roll. Plese write me at my email so I can contact you and exchange info. I think we as relatives will have to do this (put the peices together) as there is no one around now to do it but us. King Blue said his father died in Mississippi so I feel strongly that James was the father.
