Martin Bluemel

I am wondering if anyone has a Martin Bluemel in their line that turned up missing at some point. My great great grandfather was a stowaway from Baden Germany at about 16 years of age. He came to the United States but not sure where he came in at. I am just guessing it was somewhere on the east coast because he appears in the Louisville Kentucky area around the age of 40 or so and later in Indiana. I am wondering if maybe he may have followed the Ohio River and might have been in Cincinnati or Pittsburgh? He served in the Civil War out of Louisville. Have also found where he deserted and then served in Indiana under the alias Martin Miller. My dad said that Miller may have been his mothers maiden name but I have always thought it was Schwinforth. Bluemel is how his last name is spelled on his widows pension request but Bleemel is how we spell it now.

My grandmothers maiden name is Blu(e)mel. She was born in Frankfort Germany. Has anyone traced back to Germany? She came here as a 16 year old girl. I have no knowledge if there are any aunts or uncle of hers? She had 3 siblings. One commited suicide in Germany and her brother passed away in the 60's here in CA...
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks Lynette
