Katherine, if you're still there, I, too, am searching for decendants of Samuel Bluford who married Maggie Higgins. I'm from Williamsburg Cnty in lower part of SC. My dad was aslo Sam Bluford (died 1963), supposingly the son of Samuel before marriage. My dad was raised by Samuel's parents (Bill & Annie). Does these names ring a bell? I've been wishing for this day forever. My family is huge. I only wished my mother was still here to finally meet some in-laws/nieces/nephews, etc. She passed on in 2007. Pls. respond back ASAP.

Before my grandfather passed away in 2006, he told me that his grandmother was Cherokee. Chances are, we are related-Bluford is not a common name. Unfortunately, all of his siblings have passed on except for one, and the remaining sibling is ill. My grandfather probably would have been able to answer this.

My family is Native American and was given the Bluford surname when we were added to the roles. Does anyone know how/why this was given and are there any other family members from the Bear family that would have any information about the marriage between the Blufords and the Bears? Thanks!

Hi Robert!

My GG Grandmother's name was SALLY ANN BLUFORD from North Carolina, born November 27, 1834. I was told she came to Tennessee in a covered wagon with her folks. She and Houston McKelvey from(Franklin Co., GA) married in the home of John Skidmore, Ball Play, Monroe County, TN, August 01, 1852. She died July 11, 1922 in a town known as Ipe,TN, Monroe County, Tn. and is buried at Citico Baptist Church Cemetery beside Houston. He died March 31, 1915. They're daughter Margaret Saphrona McKelvey born January 16, 1864 (My Great Grandmother) married Pleasant Douglas Mayfield, McMinn County, TN. I have tried to find more information on the Blufords and seem to have very little success. There is a listing in the Tennessee Vital Statistics, Monroe County, TN, 1914-1925, a James A. Bluford, age 84, died 1922. #160, born Buncombe Co., NC, Father Daniel Bluford (Bun.Co.), Mother Annie Simpson(Bun. Co.). Hope this helps.

I may have been in contact with members of this family in Arkansas and Illinois when trying to determine if my family and theirs were related. They sent me a roster of family members which I have misplaced but will continue to look for. My contact was with a Dr. Lucious Bluford who was a supertindent of a school system, near Chicago. The family holds a family reunion each year. Dr. Bluford has since died. Unfortunately, I could not establish a relationship with this family although I believe we are related. This family has relatives in Arkansas in the county adjacent to where I have relatives. Their family roster also had current family members in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Illinois and Michigan. Good luck

Hello Trina. In my family there are both Bluford and Blueford's. There is a very large concentration of us on the west coast (California) as well as Arkansas. I'm quite sure there is some kind of connection because I went to a funeral of my Great Uncle, His name was Dale Bluford. If you have any questions email me at Onfire4Christ@compaq.net.

Jane Bluford

I come from a JANE BLUFORD (1751-) who married JAMES SPENCE (1748-1793) in Augusta County VA. I often wondered if her husband was a James, too. They had 3 sons namely, William, Bluford Thorpe (my ancestor) and James and had married c1771. You might look also at Richmond County VA as I find BLUFORDs there and maybe my Jane is from them. Her name Jane maybe part of another first name.
Have you checked the census as to where your James was born? There is a BLUFORD family in Edgefield County SC. Have you written them?

Bluford connection with St. John

My husband is a St. John and is the 6th generation to carry the middle name of Bluford. This name has been handed down generation by generation from Thomas Bluford St. John Born GA ABT 1832 married Martha Moss Hicks GA ABT 1836. Thoma's father is James C. St. John NC ABT 1790 and married Elizabeth ?? GA ABT 1799. (The theory has been that she may have been a Bluford, therefore the name being passed down.) Can anyone help, please contact me directly. bellaplant@aol.com

BLUFORD WEST GREEN

Hi

We are new to this board.

We are stuck on the WEST line. Our gr-grandfather was BLUFORD G. WEST. There were several other BLUFORD WESTs bouncing around in 1850.

It has occurred to me that perhaps BLUFORD is a surname in the WEST family tree. Another surname perhaps involved is GREEN.

Have any of you BLUFORD's ever come across a marriage to a WEST or GREEN in the 1600's or up to maybe 1750 or 1775? This probably would have been in PA, VA, MD, NC, SC. Our BLUFORD WEST was born in KY in 1825. Think the other BLUFORD WESTs were from around the same time frame.

There may have been some surnames in between the WEST and the BLUFORD.

Would appreciate any little hint you can provide on location or connections.

Thank you

Carolyn and Jim McCune (mccunegen@juno.com or mccunegen@charter-internet.com)

hi, my name is katrina marie fill/bluford. Yes, there seems to be many blufords on the west coast!! I am the daughter of Jeannie Fruzer and Wallace Bluford I was born on August 17th in the year 1981. I was adopted right before my 4th birthday by a young woman whose name is Grace Louise Fill. I am probably related to the Bluford's located in Santa Clara. I now live in Wheaton, IL. I've never really made an effort to meet or get back in touch with my biological mom or dad. But i wouldn't mind them knowing how successful i have become in school and the goals that i never thought i would achieve and let them know that they gave birth to one of the flyest ladies in the city of Chicago. But anyways...here's the only info i have...
my daddy is Mr. Wallace Bluford...
my grandmommy on my dad's side=Mildred Bluford
my granddaddy on my dad's side= Goldie? Bluford
great grandma on dad's side=Gwily Brown
great grandaddy= WALLACE BLUFORD
on mommy's side....
mommy= Jeannie Fruzer
grandmommy=Dixie Fruzer
Grandpoppy= Harvey Fruzer
Great grandmommy= Grandma Gregory
Great grandpoppy= Grandpa Mark Fruzer
and that's all the info i have. If anyone gets this who thinks their related or have info on my daddy or mommy. you can email me at Asia81@aol.com or kittyrina@hotmail.com. thanks
