I noticed your question while searching for a Michael Bluhm born about 1837 in Germany, came to Ontario, Canada, where he lived from about 1868 to 1889, and then moved again to Beaver Creek in Oregon. He married my Great Aunt Christine Golem (biewski). My family originated in West Prussia in the village of Riesenkirch, and I believe Christine knew Michael before emigrating. I know that many people who emigrated to Ontario came from the same general area. You could try searching for church records in Garnsee, Freystadt, and Marienwerder to start. There were smaller villages nearby, which I have encountered showing similar names, but I believe these three towns were where the churches were located. Don't be too exact about the name, as the records often varied even in the same church, and even more changes were made in the shipping and immigration records. It could be Blom, or Bloom or Bluhme or even Blum. There is a book written by Wilbur Bluhm called "Blue Skies over America" which is based on his research into the family, including records which he accumulated in a trip to Marienwerder some years ago. Hope this helps.
