Blumbergs from Orenburg, Russia via Riga and Lodz

Hello,
I am trying to gather information on my family. I know they were originally from Germany but settled finally in Orenburg. My grandfather was Philip Blumberg who had a silk factory in Passaic, N.J. till the crash of '29. He then lived with relatives in Astoria, Queens. I am certain he was born in Europe. His wife was Elizabeth Zorn. My cousin, Rita Blumenthal (who taught at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn) told me that my grandfather Philip had a brother named Rudolph (can't be sure of the name) who went to South America. My father, Warren Philip, was an only child, so that would exclude cousins. I have a photograph of my grandfather Philip taken in Lodz, Poland when he was a young man, though I was always told that the family emigrated from Riga. Any help on the Riga front ? Anyone doing similar research from these areas are free to contact me. Sorry for the long message, but I suppose my query is: can anyone advise me on how to proceed, particularly as far as the Latin American research on my great-uncle Rudolph is concerned.
many thanks,
warren blumberg
