Harold, In mid 1830's Germany was not yet an independen tcountry It was in fact part of Prussia as was Bavaria.
My husband is a Pittsburgh,Pa.Blumer descendant and I need info on that connection if anyone can help. My husband is Louis ArthurBlumer, father Lewis Henry Jr. gr.fr.Lewis Henry Sr.gr.gr Josiah Blumer.
On Aug. 28th of 1733 a ship arrived in Phildelphia,Pa. with a large group from Switz. , Alsace, Lorain& that general area, my feeling is that my husband,s branch stems from this group. Have record of Rev. Abraham Blumer son of Rev.John Jacob Blumer, minister at Belswander and Grabs, was born at Grabs, SwitzerlandDec.14,1736 O.S.He was sent to N.Y. via Holland in 1771. The same year he took charge of thecongregations at EGYPT, uNIONVILLE, jORDAN AND aLLENtown,pENNSYLVANIA hE ALSO SERVED AS military chaplain of the 1st Battalion of Northampton County in Penn. during the Revolutionary War, under Col. Stephen Balliet in 1781.
He resigned his charge in 1801 on account of old age and died, April23, 1822. His remains were buried in the Jordan Reformed Cemetery. Don't know how any of this ties in except that Henry Blumer was the contact man for the Glarus group that landed in Philadelphia in 1846 and began their journey to settle New Glarus, Wi.
Abraham had a son Henry whowas born Oct. 18,1778 d.Aug.13,1824.He married Sarah Mickley,b.Nov.27,1786 d.Jan.25,1859I believe they had a son named Wilhelm (Wm.)
