Hi Beverly

I'm a Danish Blunck and I seem to have no idea who you are talking about.

My grandfather was Bruno Heinrich Wilhelm Blunck, born 1912 in Maastrup (spelling is probably off). Though technically German-born, the Northern part of Southern Jutland returned to Danish rule following the first world war. My grandfather and his family (his father being Max Blunck) were since Danish citizens. Bruno had at least one brother and a sister called Emma.

I've see a bit of the family tree, and we go back to a Joachim born in Plön in 1783 I think.

There are other Bluncks in Denmark, you might wanna check out Blunck.dk, though I have never met the people on that website.

Good luck.

Re: August Bernhard Christian Blunck

This is my ancestor:

Henry Detlef Sienknecht
b. 5 MAY 1860 Rhunwinkel, Germany
d. 17 FEB 1951 Waterloo, Iowa
m. 19 JAN 1883 Germany
to Fredericka Louisa Krambeck
Immigrated 26 NOV 1883 on the SS Lessing.

According to the 1925 Iowa census, his parents were Christian F. & Julia Ruge Sienknecht. I don't know much more about them, nor do I know any of Henry's siblings. I feel like there must be a connection between all the Sienknecht families somehow.

Here is his obituary:

HENRY SIENKNECHT DIES AT DAUGHTER'S HOME AT WATERLOO
Henry Sienknecht, who farmed in the Traer and Gladbrook communities many years, died at 4:55 a.m. last Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harry Sabin, in Waterloo, of complications of old age. He was more than 90 years old.
Services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook, conducted by the Rev. Laverne Brassard, pastor of Salem church of Lincoln. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery, north of Gladbrook.
Henry Sienknecht was born May 5, 1860, in Rhunwinkel, Germany, and was reared to manhood in the old country. on Jan. 19, 1883, he married Freda Krambeck in Germany. They came to the United States in 1884, settling at Hampton Bluffs, Ill. Mr. Sienknecht brought his family to Iowa in 1893, and farmed near Traer and Gladbrook many years. He retired in Gladbrook in 1916.
Surviving are one son, Fred, of Lincoln; three daughters, Mrs. Julius Staker and Mrs. Charles Fink of Lincoln, and Mrs. Harry Sabin, of Waterloo; 33 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1940, and two sons, Henry, Rock Island, Ill., and John of Clutier.

My great-grandmother Dorothea Christina Friederike Sienknecht, known to family and friends as Caroline for some reason, had a brother Christian Friedrich Heinrich Sienknecht born 22 Aug 1860. Would he be the one? Their parents were Carl Hinrich Wilhelm Sienknecht and Anna Catharina Johanna Hansen. I keep thinking there should be a connection between my Sienknechts and the ones in Iowa, if not the ones in Tennessee, but haven't been able to make the connection thus far.

Anna Catherina Maria Harder, born 1956(?) married a Blunck in Barkhorst, near Ahrensboek. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Chances are, that branch of the Blunck family probably still resides in Germany. The above record dates to around 1882.

You are not going to believe this! I am researching the Hans Peter Blunck family in Scott co, IA, as Mike's gggaunt, Maria Vogt Blunck, is his wife! I have an article in German about Hans Peter Blunck and John Christian Vogt, brother to Maria, coming from Schieren, Sedeberg, Germany/Holstein, 23 August 1847! Haven't translated it all, but now I will!

Seems like there is a good chance that Frederick Otto Blunck and Hans Peter Blunck are somehow related--do you know anything more? I have information from state and federal census about the HP Bluncks, and pictures of the family gravesite in Pine Hill Cem., Davenport.

Amazing!

Looking for information regarding a Frederick/Fredrick Otto Blunck and family from Schlewig-Holstein area of Germany. Immigrated to IL/IA area through New Orleans on the Bark Desiree and Tully on 27 June 1847. He came with his wife Mary, 2 sons Henrich and Otto F. and a daughter (apparent) Doris. We have never heard any more information as to Mary and Doris. We assume that they died either in route or shortly after arriving in the States. If you recognize anything on this information or have suggestions as to where to look in Germany (town, village, etc), please email me. Thank you..

Dear Phyllis,

It is sure nice to meet you. I have heard your about the dropping of the "C" from Blunck name also. Fredrick is my Gr. Gr Grandfather and of course because I still work with the 'C' I descend from Otto who was my mother's grandfather. I do have a copy of the passenger's list that Fredrick and the two boys are listed on. However I also show with him what appears to be his wife and daughter. Here is how it is listed:

Friederick Blunck age 36 male workman from Holstein destination St.Louis (this is followed by)

Maria Blunck age 35 female from Holstein rest same (followed by)

Hinrich Blunck age 13 male from Holstein (followed by)

Otto Blunck age 8 male (rest same) (followed by)

Doris Blunck age 1 1/2 female (rest same).

I have never seen it written about an Annie though I have heard this story from other Blunk relatives. Can you tell me where this information came from?

They came over on the Danish Ship Desiree and Tully from Hamburg arrived in New Orleans on 27 June 1847. It seems that Maria and Doris died somewhere in either New Orleans or on the way up the Mississippi towards Iowa/Illinois area.

I have yet to determine where in Holstein or Hamburg area they originally came from.. It is one of my many 'brick walls' that I need to break through..

Would love to correspond further with you, as I have a lot of questions for you. Maybe together we can figure this all out.

hazlitt@cts.com

Elaine,
Nice to hear from you. We are really cousins on this tree. You mentioned that you have visited the grave sites of James ROWE in St. Charles, MO and George C. ROWE near Electra, TX. Do you have pictures or obits on these people? I would love to see them if you do.
I have visited the grave site of John G. ROWE in Davenport, IA. I took photos and have a stone rubbing as well due to the weathered condition. I knew it wouldn't last much longer.
I must clarify one connection that you mentioned.
William Frank ROWE b. 1837
James F. ROWE b. 1841
George C. ROWE b. 1843
Nancy Marie ROWE b. 1848
are all children of John G. ROWE b. 1812 d. 1868 and unknown wife. They are NOT Elizabeth's kids. She is their aunt.
They were shown on the census with John's sister Elizabeth her husband F.O.BLUNCK, but they are children of John G. ROWE.
My connection comes with John G. ROWE's dau. Nancy Marie ROWE. She is my great great grandmother. But I have very little on her. Would love to find out more, as she is the "lusty lady" on my branch.
Jackie
jackjo4274@aol.com

I have much material to share.
elainel@netins.net

August Bernhard Christian Blunck

My great-grandfather was August Bernhard Christian Blunck, born 23 Feb 1862 in Kuhlenbrook, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He married Caroline Sophie Sienknecht born 7 Feb 1862. I'm not sure if they were married in Germany or the US.
They had 10 children, at least two of whom were born in Wall Lake, IA -- Louis Henry 23 Sep 1887 and Willie Henry 14 Mar 1891. August had three brothers immigrate to the US also -- Gustav, Henry and William. Anyone with any information on this family please contact me either via the list or privately. I'm stuck at this point. Thank you.
