Thanks ever so much for the connection to the family. I have been working on it since I first heard from you and not sure if I ever got back to you. We come down from Martha Patsy Montfort b 1806 father John Calvert Montfort and mother Nancy Agnes Mitchell. Martha Patsy was my GGG grandmother. I really like your blog page it almost sounds as if I had written it. I am quite a family fanatic and have at present written 14 books of 300 to 500 pages front and back. First I am presenting them to all my children, and grandchildren. At present I have printed 20 of each of 14. I just returned from Indiana Friday and spent almost as much time in cemeterys as I did with live people. My problem seems as I am never finished. I print one family and then find correction and or additions. So where do we stop, are we ever finished. Thanks for your help.

Re: George Blunk: Indiana to Illinois

Wesley Blunk is the son of Jeremiah Blunk and Mary Ann Kirkham. They are buried in the Crown Center/Mt. Tabor cemetery. Wesley's wife, Irene Twomey was the connection to the Shumakers. However, Gemima Blunk Shumaker was Thomas Shumaker's wife. Jesse Shumaker may have been buried in Hendricks Co. He lived with Betsy and Zachariah Elmore in the 1850 census in the part of Morgan Co. that switched over to Hendricks Co. in the 1860's. Betsy was probably his and Frances' daughter, Elizabeth, as she was an Elizabeth Blunk. He also lived with another probable daughter and husband in the area that became Hendricks. Co. It is also possible that he is buried in Shumaker Cemetery with no stone. Frances and Rebecca (Becky) Davis were daughters of George Davis. Becky married Aaron Blunk in Kentucky and was the mother of Gemima Blunk Shumaker. I have corresponded with someone who said that he died while napping proped up against a tree with his trusty rifle by him. But she did not know where he was buried. She had the story of his death from a relative and thought the death occurred in Hendricks Co. Jo Blunk

There is a Wesley Blunk (father) and wife buried at the Shumaker Cemetery at Eminence and were born about 1877. I have been looking for where Jesse Shumaker was buried. I found his wife Frances buried at the Shumaker Cemetery but not his stone. Mickey (Shumaker) Mechling

Ira Hurschel BLUNK's parents were: Levi Henson BLUNK and Samantha RENFROW BLUNK.
Levi Henson BLUNK's parents were: Joseph BLUNK and Adeline WRIGHT BLUNK. Joseph BLUNK's parents were: Andrew Jackson BLUNK and Mary E. JOHNSON BLUNK. Andrew Jackson BLUNK's parents were: Andrew Jackson BLUNK Sr., and Mary CALHOUN BLUNK. Andrew Jackson BLUNK Sr.'s parents were: William BLUNK and Mary Rachel McCOY BLUNK.

Sadly we have not had our BLUNK REUNION for the past 2 years now. My husband being ill and then his death. However we have had relatives attend from KENTUCKY, INDIANA, OHIO, and NEW YORK. We do have many photos and would love to pass on your Reunion information to our group.
Hopefully some can attend this year.

Cousin-in-law,
Jo Hawkins

Our family is pretty small though we only a few who carry the Blunk name. Hope you make contact. Jane

I believe Nancy had a brother by the name of John W. Blunk b.abt 1831,he is shown living with Martha and William Mcferron in Kosciscko Co., Indiana in 1850, very close to Nancy (Blunk) and David Myers. I dont know when Martha married William.
A couple of Nancy (Blunk) and David Myers children traveled west in 1880 staying in Nebraska awhile. Thats how Martha got there. After Martha's death some of the family traveled on to Colorado. My family returned to Indiana late 1890's. I have alittle more info on John W., I believe he married a Mary. I dont have much. This family gave me quite a problem for awhile. I had trouble figuring out Nancy's parents, most of the Southern Blunks wouldnt claim us ---finally I tied the Mcferrons with them. So still working on this line. As soon as I have a chance to go thru you sites, I'll get back to you. If you want any more on my line let me know. Thanks for info, I'll get back to you. Just brought my husband home from hospital today so may be a week or so.

I am curious to know more about Martha's marriage to McFeron and if there were other children than Nancy....I've tried census but the spelling variations for McFeron are numerous....I can do more on the Montforts as that is my main focus of research...since the age of then and actively since 1962 when I turned 20, my husband went to Viet Nam and I worked in the Indiana History Room at the New Albany, Indiana Public Library. Also more with the Banta family as the Martha's grandfather was the leader of the Low Dutch Colony to KY in 1780. Let me know if I can fill in anywhere.

We have a GATHERING OF DUTCH COUSINS reunion every other year in Kentucky.....the next one is Sept of 2009 at Harrodsburg and by line of descent from Hendrick Banta 3rd and Francis Montfort Sr [his son in law] as well as Riker and Demarest lines...the children of Martha Montfort Blunk are invited. Its a four day event with talks, tours, visits, displays of family histories......and a lot of good eating, greeting and meeting. My goal before the next gathering is to have as many descendants of the eight of nine children of Francis Sr identified and invited as possible. I say 8 of 9 as the youngest, Sarah, never married, joined the Shakers with their mother Geertje/Charity Banta Montfort and both died at Shakertown in Mercer County, KY. My blog has a picture of Charity's grave...and if directly connected through Martha Montfort Blunk...this is your ancestor.

Barbara

Martha "Patsy" Montfort was the daughter of John Calvin and Nancy Agnes Mitchell Montfort of Henry County, KY. She was born in Aug 1806 and died sometime in 1887 in Nebraska. Her first husband was William Blunk and she later married William McFerron [a brother to Robert who had married her sister, Sarah]. Only one known child, Nancy. I have done very little on her line but can give you information on the Montfort families [over 50 years of research] if interested.

My website/blogs are at

www.montfortfamilyetc.blogspot.com [WALKING IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS]

www.bar-b-k.tripod.com [THE MONTFORT FAMILY: A NARRATIVE]

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=kyshakerf...

Barbara Whiteside

Gary,
According to the information I recently received from a contact at rootsweb we are speaking of the line of William Blunk born in Ireland 1734 died in 1788 in Washington Co. Pa.Do those dates come close to yours? A long line of decendants, and growing up we didn't really know any other "Blunks" but our relatives so had no idea how big a clan we have. Very interesting. How long have you been doing this? I have always had interest but not the time to devote as I have now.
Nancy

Sorry, does not match any of my information. I have an Andrew R. Blunk and Andrew A. Blunk and an Andrew Blunk with no middle initial known. All of these are offshoots to my line and so I do not have much info on their wives, children, etc. My line seems to come from Ireland and the original name of the immigrant ancestor is probably William BLOUNT married to Rachel McCoy.
Gary,
The info I have gives Eliza as an "Elliott" born 1828 in England died in 1828. She was married to Andrew F. in Indiana in 1851. Andrew was born in 1816 in Kentucky. They were married in 1851 and had 8 children from 1852-1870. They were Fannie, Francis, Melancthon, David, Joseph, John(my grandfather), Susannah and Mary Eliza. Do any of those names fit with your information? I have birthdates on each.
I am just getting involved and find it terribly fascinating.
Thanks for your interest.
Nancy

Nancy,

I have two Andrew Blunks in my tree, one is the son (married to ???) of Goldsbay and Elizabeth (Pritchett) Blunk, both of whom died in Morgan County, IN, in 1857 and 1871 respectively.

The other Andrew is the son of William and Rachel (McCoy) Blount. William died in 1788 in Allegheny County, PA. This Andrew married a Sarah Warren in 1816.

It sounds like the first one might be the same Andrew that is your gg grandparents. Let me know if you think so, I have a lot of info on the Blunks.

Gary Hada
Yes, that is the same info I have with some changes. Apparently someone who emailed me some info about five years ago had confused two William Blunk/Blounts. From information I have seen just now from Betty Blunk/Jo Blunk the two people named William were father and son. The older Willam used the name William Blunk and his son used the name William Blount. The son was married to Mary McCOYand the father was married to a Rachel UNKNOWN. Read some of the past posts this week where Jo is attempting and I think has finally succeeded in straightening me out somewhat. My descent is apparently directly from the father William Blunk and Rachel and William Blount is a brother to my direct ancestor, Aaron Blunk (about 1775-1826), married to Mary Rebecca Davis. Getting less and less sure now.

Good luck with all the Andrew's

Gary Hada

William Blunk who lived in Indiana was married to Mary McCoy. His Father, William, died in Pennsylvanis and was married to Rachel ?? in Ireland according to a gentleman who was working on their daughter, Hannah. William Blunk in Indiana had a daughter Rachel who married John Jordan in Pennsylvania and they are both buried in the Jordan Cemetery in Wayne Co., Indiana. I do not know anything about John's parents, but he was born in Ireland, as was William's daughter, Rachel. Sometimes the ages given for her make her born in the colonies, my source said that Rachel was the last child of William and Rachel born in Ireland, the ones younger than she were born here.

Comments have been made in the past that William Blount b. 1756 in Ireland, married to Mary McCoy. Was the son of William Blunk b. abt 1734 born in Germany or Ireland. That Blount was the only one whom changed his surname from Blunk to Blount. Through research have found that this William Blount married to Mary McCoy was born in North Carolina in 1744 and his father was Jacob Blount. He was governor to the territory south of River Ohio. Moved to Tennessee then to Delaware Co., IN where he died. Maybe more heads than mine can figure this out. Resources for my confusion are: History of Henry County, pub 1884; History of Tennessee and Tennesseans; History of Wayne County, IN pub. 1872. If you can access the full version of Ancestry.com go to stories & Publications under Family & Local Histories search under William Blount. If anyone can clear this up for me, please post a comment.

William Blount was married to Mary McCoy. He was the son of William Blunk who was married to Rachel Unknown. William is apparently the only one of the elder William's children that went to the Blount spelling. He and Rachel were executors/administrators of William Blunk's will in Pennsylvania when he died in 1788.
Back again. The William Blunk who died in PA in 1788 was married to Rachel UNKNOWN. They had come from Ireland. Wife Rachel, and son, William, were administrators of his estate. His son, William, was married to Mary McCoy, daughter of Thomas McCoy and Margaret. William, the son, settled in Delaware Co., IN and his family uses the spelling Blount for the name. This was to connect to a Rev. War soldier of the Virginia Line. It has been pretty well proven that the Virginia Line is incorrect. Andrew Blunk, John Blunk, and Amos Blunk who went to Harrison Co are pretty well proven to be sons of the elder William. Aaron is a probable son. John, who moved on to Switzerland Co., and Amos testified for Andrew's widow for a Rev. War pension, which she did not receive because of no corroborating evidence, other than heresay, that they accompanied him when he enlisted. I have copies of his papers with a PA unit now that probably prove the claim. Andrew, Amos, John, and Aaron all had adjoining land claims in Harrison Co. William, who went to Delaware Co., had sons named Andrew, John, Amos, Aaron, William, Joseph and Richard Thomas. His daughters were named Margaret, Hannah, Rachel, Mary and Elizabeth.

Jo Blunk

Golsbay and Elizabeth Pritchett Blunk may not have had a son named Andrew. He is only mentioned in Brice's obituary. The obituary did not mention his sister, Luemma, who was still alive. Luemma's obituary did not mention Andrew. Counting the number of children credited to Golsbay and Elizabeth does not come up with a number that would include Andrew. Luemma's will was very specific about naming children surviving her brothers and sisters and about that fact that her child preceded her in death and had no survivors. Some of Brice's children lived with Luemma for a period of time and were major inheritors of her estate.

Andrew Blunk of Harrison Co., IN had a son, Andrew, 'who married Mary (Polly) Johnson. Polly's brother, Levi Johnson, was appointed guardian of Golsbay's minor siblings when Aaron Blunk died in Owen Co. There are several Andrews in the Harrison Co. lineage. Joseph Blunk of Harrison/Floyd Co. had a son, Peter Andrew, for instance. There were two Andrew J. Blunk's floating around down there at the same time also.

Jo Blunk
