Hi:

I am interested in this family too. Sarah Hinton Bryan (B Johnson Co, NC) is said to have married an Edward Blurton (Johnson Co, NC)after the death of her husband. At that time she already had 2 daughters, Redley and Edney.

Census records have Edward and his brother in Buncombe Co, NC in 1880. Edward went to Wilson Co , Tn.

A

Gardner/Garner mar Marion Co IL.
Phillip Blurton-Mary Jones (in Marion Co IL)
Hinton Blurton-Susannah Howell (in Wilson Co TN to Marion Co IL, then Newton Co MO)
Edward Blurton & Sarah or Nancy Hinton?? He served with several of Susannah's brothers and brother-in-laws.

Hinton's father, Edward, served in the Rev. Thier children are Curtis P, Beryle, Harry, Earl E, Lucille, Frankie and my grandmother Margaret. Several of the children were born in Illinois and the last couple born in Missouri before everyone but Curtis moved to Culver City, California by 1930 along with 3 Newby nephews. I am trying deperatly to track down family information on Calvin P Blurton and his origins. I am getting very different stories from many people. If you know this line or someone that does please contact me.

My great-great grandmother was Ridley Blurton, whom I believe to be the daughter of Edward Blurton (b. 1758 Johnson Co., NC; d. 17 Sep 1833, Wilson Co., TN). Ridley Blurton married Britton Odum in Wilson Co. TN on 12 Sep 1814, and they lived out their lives in community of Commerce, Wilson Co., TN. I believe Ridley's full siblings to be John, Bryant, Hinton, and Nancy. Edward m. (2nd) Rosa Neal and had children: Jane, Eleanor, Henry, Naomi, and Omar.

Hi,

Son number 4 is the ancestor my husband and yours have in common.

Ellen

The Latham Ancestry
by
Beulah Latham Savage

According to George A. Latham, 1215 Main Street, Union Gap, Washington, the Latham pedigree began in England AD 1135 in the reign of King Stephen of Blois.

Mr. Latham states in a letter to Mrs. Nettie Latham Fergason that he has a record of an honorable Lewis Latham, 1555-1596 who was falconer to King Charles. There is also a description of the Latham house built in 1734. The name in the old country was changed from Latham to Lathim, it was said, during the Revolutionary War because the English were treating them so bad. They wanted to lose the English identity. Since coming to the new country most of them changed back from Lathim to Latham.

Three Latham brothers, whose names are not known, came from North Carolina in covered wagons. When most of this country was in woods and very little land was in cultivation. Their homes were built of huge yellow poplar logs cut from the land. Their first home started and was built by a few slaves they brought along with them. In addition to land they laid out in claim, they bought other land for 25 and 50 cents and [sic] acre.

One brother settled on the banks of the Mississippi River which is now part of Memphis. One brother settled on the banks of the Tennessee River near Shiloh, where they could fish, hunt, and sell furs. The younger brother, being more adventurous, went on to some place in Kentucky.

A great grandson of the one that settled in Memphis, Harrison Crisco Roberson Latham, married Polly Chipman.
Their children were:
1. James Amos born Dec 6 1838
2. Thomas married
3. Lela married Jim Galand
4. William Harrison born 01 Aug 1850 died 16 Nov 1913 married
Sarah Malinda Moore 31 Oct 1871
5. Eliza married
6. Thurmond married
7. Cleve married
8. Sid married Allie Taylor

The only connection I have of slaves is Edward's lst wife Sarah Hinton Bryan (lst husand) was given a negro girl Phillis in her father's will dated 1761. He was poisoned along with Sarah's husband by a negro slave named Jenny. They lived on Snowfield Plantation in Smithfield?, NC.
A 1790 census New Bern District, Johnston Cty shows Edward with 4 slaves .Hope this helps if you are still looking for information.

I saw a land patent issued to a Rias Blurton on the following site www.glorecords.blm.gov. He was a man of color this was stated on description. I can't remember if it was in Missouri or Illinois. I was tracing descendants of North Carolina's Edward Blurton later of Tennessee.I believe I saw a message once where you thought Rias might of been connection to this line.
I also found where Edward only owned two slaves and than after marriage to Sarah Hinton Bryan tax list showed four.
Hope this is the right Rias.

Made a typo in my previous post---it's what happens when you have kids tugging at you while typing!

Nancy Ann Hinton was the sister of William Hinton (not Col. William Bryan), making her the aunt of Sarah Hinton (who married Capt. Lewis Bryan of Johnston Co., NC).
Nancy Ann Hinton married, Solomon Alston. Nancy Ann Hinton was the daughter of John Hinton & Mary Hardy. Just looking at dates---Nancy Ann Hinton was close to 20 years senior to Capt. Lewis Bryan, and that roughly makes her 50 years old or so if you believe she was Lewis' wife at the birth of his first child in 1771.

Sorry for the massive error and confusion...can't believe I did that............

Edward Blurton married my 5th great-grandmother, Sarah Hinton Bryan, after the death of her husband Capt. Lewis Bryan, Sr. Edward arrived in Buncombe (now Madison) County, North Carolina in 1800 and appears on that year's census.
Edward then married Rose A. Neal and they had their first child in 1808---so Sarah apparently died some time after 1800. We have never been able to establish where Sarah was buried, though it is my understanding that Edward died in 1833 in Wilson County, Tennessee.
I am trying to determine exactly how many children Edward Blurton and Sarah Hinton Bryan had---their names and dates/places of birth. Unfortunately, I know nothing about them.
Most replies concern other lines, does any one know something that will help me with Jesse?

"I am trying to research my husband’s family tree. I have run into a dead end on the BLURTON line. His grand father was Jesse Gray BLURTON [b. 7 Aug 1870 d. 7 Dec 1941 buried in Cypress Cemetery near Bells, Crockett Co., Tennessee]. Jessie’s father was William “Bill” BLURTON born in Crockett Co., Tennessee. His mother was Tennessee MEDLIN.

Jessie Gray BLURTON married Mary Luna LATHAM [b. 12 Mar 1881 d. 8 Jan 1965 buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery near Henning, Lauderdale Co., Tennessee]. Having been widowed twice, he was her 3rd husband. Mary Luna LATHAM’s parents were William Harrison LATHAM [b. 1 Aug 1850 d. 15 Nov 1913] and Melinda MOORE [b. 6 Jul 1854 d. 11 May 1931].

If you have any information on my requests, please help me. Nancy and Sarah Garner were my ggg grandfather Jeremiah's sisters. I also believe that were may have been earlier connections between the Garner, Blurton and possibly Howell families. The Blurton, Garner and Hammer families traveled from Wilson County, TN to Marion County IL together. I am sorry I don't have much on Phillip, but would love to know more about him and his family, Contact me at caldmc@msn.com and I will share all that I have.
