Abraham Bly was my Great, Great, Great, Grandfather through his son James then His Son Cassius, then his son Edwin P., Then his son Edwin E. - Then me. Are we related?
Cassius, Abraham's grandson, wrote, "Abraham was of spare build and fairly tall. He had a long white beard He was Methodist and very devout. Every night before retiring and in the morning before breakfast everybody was called in, even the hired hands. A chapter was read from the Bible and a prayer was offered up."
Apparently Cassius could remember that had four girls and four boys by his first wife and then married again and had two more. Cassius remembered that wife very well.
They had a small farm and a large house 2-1/2 miles southeast of Des Moines towards Knoxville, Iowa where the whole family had moved to from Indiana in 1866. Abraham died at the age of 76 in that house in 1886 having lived there 20 years.
Cassius had recollections of his Aunt Nancy Bly Clark d. age 91. He said that with her 12 children, she had 56 decendents by 1927) and she "no larger than a pint of cider"
