I am the ggg grand daughter of Lucinda Bly-Whittington, of Boone, NC., the gg grand daughter of Sallie Whittington-Dowell, the g grand daughter of Julia Dowell-Earnest, the grand daughter of Lois Earnest-Tarter-Gladden, the daughter of Alice Hughes.

My ggg grand mother Lucinda was a slave for John Jefferson Whittington, he in turn gave her to his son, John Cromwell Whittington. The family story is that John Cromwell and Lucinda married and had 7 children together: Jane, Nero, Sallie(Sarah), Elbert, Leander,William and Callie Whittington. However, we have not been able thus far to prove that in fact such a marriage took place. Lucinda was part Cherokee Indian, who her parents were is unknown to me. Wow! This is the first post I've answered that isn't 10 years old!

I do have a little information on Hannah, since she was also the mother of my ancestor Ebenezer Morgan. Apparently she was married to ? Morgan first and had Ebenezer, and then she married David Bly; more children to follow.

Where on earth did LaCoste come from? I never would've dreamed!

Lucinda Bly-Whittington was my ggg grandmother. My mother, Alice Hughes,who was Lucinda's gg granddaughter and Vivian Ruth Earnest-Thornhill, who was Lucinda's g granddaughter, started researing our ancestors in 1980 and we began to have our family reunions. "The Whittington-Dowell-Earnest" reunions. Alice, my mother passed in 1999 and vivian, my aunt passed away in 2002. I believe but can not prove that David Bly and Hannah (Anna) LaCoste?, Morgan, Bly are the parents of My Great grand mother Adeline Bly Heald (Hield)b 1818
I first found them in the 1820 (25?)census of Chautauqua co NY. Adeline was born there.
Adeline and John William Heald lived in Kendall co Woodford co. and Livinston co IL.
I have know idea where David was from or which family he belongs to. My daughters is working on this line along with me and discovered the possable LaCoste link

I've also found out my Great Grandfather had two Half Brothers, younger than him, Named James and William born around 1928-1930's). I'm not sure if they were born in Alaska, or lived in Alaska.. but somehow they are another peice of the puzzle. I know they used to travel through Illinios and visit with my grandfather on short visits.

The name is repeated several times in the letter on different pages. I believe Wardell is the best interpretation.

I found to Charels Bly.. and I think his father was also Charles Bly.. ( born in Illinios), His mother ( name still unkonw was born in Arizona ( via a census).. will try to digest this letter a bit more... Does the one last name look more like a Nardell or Wardell?? I've only got this copy of a copy of a copy.. so Its hard to read.

I have a little bit of info. Charles and Sarah were married 27 Nov 1872 in Calhoun Co.,MI. They had 3 children, Vida May born Feb 1878 in Marshall, Arthur Tracey born 12 Jan 1884 in Marshall and Carlton Charles B. born 31 Oct 1889 in Marshall. In 1880 & 1870 census Charles was in New Oregon, Howard Co., Iowa
In the Iowa State Census 1885 he was in New Oregon, Howard Co., Iowa and in 1895 he was in Linn Springs, Howard Co., Iowa.

I can't find a match right off hand, but I do have some Charles Bly without spouses. Most of my Illinois Blys were from Ogle and Lee Counties.
You don't give any dates. When was Arthur Charles Bly and his father Charles Bly born? Were they of German descent? There is a line of German Blys that has several books detailing their lineage.

I believe that the source you found listing Jonathan Bly of Rhode Island is correct for the Renssalaer NY Bly family. There are several active people working on that line and I would send an email to the people with Jonathan Bly and his wife Eunice on their family trees on rootsweb and ancestry worldconnect.

I found an antique book at book sale with the signature of Mrs. Charles H Vary, Marshall on the inside cover. It is a book that is quite precious to me, so I decided to find out who she was. She was born abt 1854 in New York and her family moved to Marshall, Michigan. Her father was Caleb Bly and she had two sisters, Rebecca and Mary. Her husband Charles H Vary was born abt 1851 in NY. His farming family also moved to Marhsall, Michigan, just down the road from the Bly family.

Let me know if you are connected to Sarah. The book is Pilgrim's Progress, copyright 1885. I am figuring she read this book when she was about 31 while her babies were napping, or maybe read it as a bedtime story to them.

Would like to know a death date for Sarah Ann Bly.
Here's what I know about her: born 1862 in IL, parents William & Diana (Wise) Best. Married William H. Bly 1885, IL. Son Alvin born 1896 in Iowa. 1910 & 1920 living in Los Angeles, 1930 Wm H. Bly, still in L.A., is a widow.
So Sarah Ann Best Bly died sometime in the 1920's, but I'd like to know the date. Any help appreciated.

I don't remeber where or when the Bly name comes into the picture, but Bly is in my family history, and I stem from the Puringtons and other names connected would be Gilman, Boody and Webster. If you have any of these last names connected to the Bly within the New Hampshire and Maine areas there is a good possibility that we are connected somehow.

James Bly born about 1708 married Joanna Hadle in Amesbury, Mass. in 1731. He died in Plaistow, New Hampshire in 1788. They had several children including Moses Bly born 1752 in Plaistow, N.H. who married Sarah Ordway. This Bly family lived in New Hampshire and Vermont. I believe James' father and mother are William Bly and Susanna Wood but I have not been able to prove. Would love to correspond with anyone out there who is researching this family. I have quite a bit of informaton on this family but am missing bits and pieces including proof of James' parents. Brenda

Yes,my Bly linage comes from Ogle IL (Charles Henry,Egford, and Robert Stewart). My two sons (Allan Richard Jr. and Robert Allison) will be the end of that branch.

Otis W. Bly/Bligh & Lydia Esten

Looking for help with the Otis W. Bly/Bligh family. Otis b.1802, d. 1883 in Rhode Island, and his wife Lydia Esten b. 1814, d. 1889.

I know nothing of Lydia's family.

The Bly/Bligh's have been elusive because of differing spellings mostly on census records. Bly is seen twice with the family, but Bligh appears the most often used. They appear to have had 6 children that I am aware of: Stephen E., James J., Sylvia W., Mary E., Julia A., and George O.

I haven't have any luck with much electronically other than census records on these folks. ALso no luck on findagrave or some of the other sites. I'm 1,200 miles from RI, so I'm hoping someone out there has some information.

Hello, I too am a direct descendant of William C. Bly.
The Bly's lived in New England, then moved to Herkimer, NY,
then my group moved to Potter County, Pa. Benjamin H. Bly
was the son of William C., and from Benj. H, Elonzo Bly.

My Grandfather is Arthur Charles Bly, His Fahter is Charles Bly Married to Claire Kabon (sp) ( Mercer County Illinios), had 1 Daughter Lynn Louise Bly who Married Bill and had one Duaghter named Marils Baldridge ( Albequerque NM).

My Grandfather had two Half Brothers ( BLY) Jim ( James?) and Rich ( Richard?). I was told there family came somewhere form the pa area, before moving to midwest. Any info appreciated

I have some information, from an old letter from a GGG Aunt sent out to one of My relatives Mary Jane Bly somewhere between 1960-1970. I'm not sure if any of these ppl are in your lines, but thought I would start another link with what little info I have, if it could help someone else. Came From England.. Jobe Hill Boston... Had Jobe 11 Married Abigail who had an Arnold, Who married an Elizabeth Brown, came to Northern Illinios, in covered wagon in 1842,
Only boy being John, GGG Grandfather John Hill, Who married Almarine Nardell ( early american family, G-father captain in Rev War, , Had 9 Children ( where Almarine, Marion and Fracis came in). I have tons of names but not sure where they all come in. Supposibly Almarine married an M. Seigal Bly.. can attach the letter

I know my GGGG Grand father Bly was a Mason in the 1800's .

Are you still posting? Now that my Father has died, I have found out a little more info and who his parents were. He was born on April 16, 1929, and died on Jan. 3, 2005.

In the 1930 Census, of Shelbyville, TN. (Bedford Co.), he is listed as being one year old. His parents were Samuel & Lucile Bly and he had a sister named Jean, who was 2 yrs. & 10 months old. They were living in a boarding house on Bridge St. Also, living in that boarding house, were a Nickols family, and Grey Mullins, Stanley Little, and Sallie Little.
Samuel was not a veteran, and worked as a presser. Lucile was a machine operator...both worked in a pants factory.
I hope this matches your info or someones!
My Mother was Lonnie Pearl (Hale) Miller. Although I'm just his "love child", I would still like to have known him...and would like to know my half siblings.
